Stocks remain deep in the red, but off session lows, after the European Central Bank did not act to help stabilize the euro zone. ECB President Mario Draghi raised expectations last week that the central bank could buy Spanish and Italian bonds when he pledged to “do whatever it takes” to save the euro.

Dem Rep. Waxman criticizes White House for lack of transparency
The Obama administration has come under fire from Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) amid accusations that the White House failed to live up to its own ethical standards.
“The Presidential Records Act was enacted to ensure that White House records are preserved for history and are owned by the American people,” Waxman said. “Everyone who is covered by the law should follow it, regardless of which party controls the White House.”
Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee issued a report two days ago that detailed members of the Obama White House using personal email accounts to conduct official business with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry. The report also listed occasions where the same officials met outside of the White House, apparently at a Caribou Coffee, ensuring the meetings would not be recorded in official visitor logs. One official named in the report is Jim Messina, a former deputy chief of staff, now the Obama campaign manager.

President Obama and his campaign made a desperate last minute push to close the July books on the highest note possible, resorting to a seemingly endless series of gimmicks and pleadings to prod supporters to contribute.
The Obama campaign long ago abandoned hope that it could raise $1 billion, and probably won’t make its downgraded goal of $750 million either. It was outraised by the Romney campaign for the previous two months, and may well get trounced again in July.
Obama staged a desperate race around the country during July to raise money, with the final days of the month including a last minute dash out to the ritzy Virginia suburbs and then a special trip on Air Force One to collect $40,000 a head from the One Percent at a swank New York City fundraiser.
But Obama’s personal touch was accompanied by a series of sometime bizarre tactics to get backers to part with their cash before midnight July 31.
Among the oddest was a demand for booze money dispatched via Twitter.
Other Tweets offered a free car magnet and that staple of money raising chotchkies, the T-shirt: Pick your favorite state! Pick your favorite color!

Will affect contractors if budget cuts hit Jan. 2
President Obama’s administration doesn’t see the need for defense contractors to warn employees about possible layoffs from across-the-board budget cuts, but in 2007, then-Sen. Barack Obama railed against employers for failing to notify workers who were in danger of losing their jobs.
“The least employers can do when they’re anticipating layoffs is to let workers know they’re going to be out of a job and a paycheck with enough time to plan for their future,” Mr. Obama said in a news release on July 17, 2007, while campaigning for president.
The Obama administration said Monday in guidance from the Labor Department that federal contractors don’t need to warn their employees that they could lose their jobs because of the looming budget cuts that are slated to begin Jan. 2.

Kevin: it’s public knowledge and fact. Don’t have to back it up. You look it up, and use replicable sources during your research, if you want to know the facts. That way you will not have to take political analyst and bloggers words to be fact. You will be able to form you own opinions and the sentences that you put together to explain your political stance will be your own words and thoughts and not repeated by someone who probably has something to gain by feeding you false information. FOX news and all those right-wing websites that get copied and pasted on this web site are not factual. I also know that everything I feel is an accomplishment by the president you will use a right-wing talking point to try and disprove me. Not wasting my time doing that. I respect your opinion but I know our President is a very capable leader who loves America and has done a lot for America. I don’t have to prove it. His legacy will do the talking. Even if he doesn’t get reelected, (which he will) his legacy will already be solidified based on his first term and that’s a fact, whether you accept it or not.

I think that harry reid went over the line when he said Romney’s dad would be embarrassed by him. That is too low and beyond inhumane to bring up a beloved deceased parent for political purposes. I also don’t know when in America we quote an anonymous source and then expect that person to prove it isn’t true. If harry reid has the proof that Romney hasn’t paid taxes, he should present it. In fact, I think a law should be passed that all politicians should open up their taxes. After all they are all co-equal branches.
Spent the day with family member who has at most 2 month left. He is only 66 and not ready. It is very sad and hard to know what to say. I’m pooped.

Probably the most amazing thing I’ve ever read on this site is Chriccee saying that a woman’s ovarian cancer is due to her husband and seemingly delighting in that fact. I have no words, curse or otherwise, to describe my incredulity when I read that.

It is sad. I am an 41 year old African American woman born of black parents who went through the racism in the 40′s, 50′s, 60′s. And the fact that blacks will vote for a man who they have nothing in common with KILLS ME. He was born from a white woman from Kansas and Black Kenyan. Who mother thought American men(white or black) weren’t good enough for her so she goes overseas to Muslim country( both) men of her children Muslims (I have the values of My black parents who were born and raised here in the United States of American). My father worked hard to start his own Construction business and was successful. I am tired of all this race crap. How do you give a college professor (who we can’t even see what kind of grades he got in college), never had to sit down and worry about firing someone or keeping a company afloat so he could continue to have work for his employees. The fact that everything he has done has made this country worse can only be summed up he needs to be fired like he asked to be if the economy was not better. It’s so funny how he fights to keep his job and the employment rate for Blacks has gone up (LOOK WHO HE SURROUNDS HIMSELF AROUND)Not blacks not even counting his wife because Your only proud of America because they elected him over Hillary in Iowa( What about your father getting up every morning with his bad feet so that she and her brother could have a better life than him and his wife).
