   Looks somewhat reminiscent of the Jimmy Carter & Ronald Reagan 1980 election. Remember how Ronald Reagan was trailing 9 points leading up to the election ,and won in a landslide, 489 electoral votes to Jimmy Carter’s 49. Carter won 5 states (MN, RI, HI, MD, WV, and GA) plus DC, however that scenario seems too extreme, because we have somewhat different circumstances at play. You know the people who didn’t vote for Obama in 2008, sure won’t be voting for him this time, and the 2012 election will sure be a bigger challenge for Obama than the 2008 one.

   Faith3 – So, do you think the recession had anything to do with the states financial problems or did every state in the union spend like a “drunken sailor”?

   Regardless of what caused the problem the first stimulus didn’t work as promised. Now you want another one. You want the fed govt to fund state employees forever? If not how long?

   When Pinochet took over Chile in 1973

   One of your favorite talking points. It failed in Chile so it means it will fail here too. I could use Greece for my counter argument.

   Why on earth would we want to follow their lead especially since it is not necessary in this country?

   Well seeing that the stimulus didn’t work its becoming more clear that something else (maybe reform the tax code & cut or at least freeze spending) needs to be done. Growing the deficit & debt are not the answer. Continuing on this path will lead to austerity for sure. Take a headache now or suffer broken ribs, limbs, a concussion, lose a eye, etc later. The longer we wait the tougher it will get.

   Matthew – Austerity makes sense when your economic troubles are the result of high inflation and high interest on your debt; neither of these are an issue for the United States.

   So $450 billion a year on interest is not a problem? $8+ trillion in the last 20+ years not a problem? You say we have assets to cover things. Should we continue to leverage our assets to the max?

   Faith3 – Letting some</B of the Bush tax cuts sunset will save us having to borrow more to finance cuts we can’t afford.

   Yea about a week of spending. That really helps. TIA Have you noticed Nobama has only called for extending the "middle class" tax cuts for one year? Why do you have so much faith in the fed govt? They got us (to be honest we the people let them.) in the fix we’re in. You think giving them more money is going to help?

   I recommend San Remo, which is right on the Italian Riviera. I liked it so much there, that I went back and spent another two weeks. You are very close to Monaco too. Also, you have to go to Fiorenze — Florence. Oh boy, you will love it there. Later…
