“I am pretty tired of hearing about inequality in the US!”
There is a relationship between inequality and poverty. If you don’t care about rising povery in the US then ignore this post and carry on. More and more middle class people are joining the ranks of poverty as the cost of living goes up and wages continue to stagnant and in some cases decline.
Coffee Steve wrote: “How long are they (Locals) saying that refinery wil be down out there? I feel for you guys with the higher prices.”
No word on how long the refinery will be closed; the article below says that impact will be felt through at least Labor Day.
Gas Prices Quickly Rise After Richmond Refinery Fire.
Cheapest regular gas here (30 miles from Richmond) is $3.90/gallon at the pump.
In my brief research of “total American assets” i found this most interesting.
To use Coffee Steve’s often over used (according to Boris) link click here. I wish i went here when i first began my research. All the info i was looking for in one place.
Assets per citizen = $292,340 I’m guessing that includes non tax paying folks. See below.
Liability per taxpayer = $1,052,202. Don’t know why assets are “per citizen” & Liability is “per taxpayer.” On the assets I guess they include retired folks, disabled folks, children, etc etc.
Can anybody in here borrow 3.5 times more money than your worth? Well the fed govt has done it for you. Aren’t you glad they did? Some liberals don’t think it’s a problem. Just keep borrowing & let somebody else worry about paying it pack.
Faith3 – Actually who says the first stimulus didn’t work? Many economists agree that the stimulus saved many jobs as well as produced them.
—————————–
Many economists say it didn’t work & the 20+ million unemployed would agree. I’ll ask again (since you didn’t answer last time) How does anybody count a “saved job”? I’ll ask again – How long should the fed govt pay state employees?
Greece did not apply neoliberal policies until the last decade or so.
So Greece’s problems started 10 years ago. Gotcha.
Faith3 – He extended middle class cuts because they are more likely to be spent and go back into the economy unlike wealthy investors who are very likely to invest overseas in other countries to earn higher profit on returns.
———————————–
You missed the point. If the middle class tax cuts are so great why extend them only a year? Why not make them permanent? Could it be if he gets a second term he will let them expire? How do you know its “very likely” the rich will invest overseas? Where/what are these investments?
I’ll ask again – Why do you have so much faith in the fed govt? They got us (to be honest we the people let them.) in the fix we’re in. You think giving them more money is going to help?
Please tell me how funding the fed govt for about a week is gonna fix anything?
**worry about paying it

You gotta stop listening to Obama, because he has no idea what he’s talking about…yes, the rich got a TAX CUT…but the middle class didn’t get a tax cut, they got a TAX CREDIT. what’s the difference? With a tax cut you get to keep more of YOUR money…with a tax credit, you get to keep more of SOMEONE ELSE’S money…
Faith3 – Actually who says the first stimulus didn’t work? Many economists agree that the stimulus saved many jobs as well as produced them.
************************
You mean saved jobs like when they gave teachers a raise? That’s not a created job, or even a saved job, because they weren’t gonna quit their job if they didn’t get a raise…but they were union members, so giving them a raise was a way to buy their votes…I’ve been on this planet for over 50 years, and I NEVER heard of “saved jobs” until Obama took office.
And even Obama admitted, after he spent the $800 billion, he didn’t realize that those shovel ready jobs werent really shovel ready….
Idiots in Washington talk about tax cuts/increasing taxes . The problem is entitlements. We give too many people too much money that we don’t have. Period. It’s like constantly overdrawing your checking account every month. It’s taking the rent money and spending it on movies and beer for your friends. Then you have to put the rent on a credit card. You run the credit card til it’s limit paying ridiculous fees but still making the same money you did before and still wasting it. The government wastes your money. They get plenty of it. Do you really want to give them more to waste? CEO bailouts, Soylndra, the GSA, the military, education for illegals, medicaid for illegals, turtle research, empty federal buildings, pledging money for countries that hate us etc, etc. Entitlement reform is what we should all be pushing. Not more taxes, not less. As I’ve said before, I would gladly pay more if I thought they would do something constructive with the money and not bail out more CEO’s.
Lawrence O’Donnell crushed Greta again.
Oh Tony, you made my day, It has been a rough week and I needed a laugh. In fact I was going to post “Where’s Tony?’ Seriously, I do love your posts.
Our middle class is the biggest in the world. Everyone has opportunities in this country. Just because someone is wealthy does no mean that they have stolen from the middle class. This “tax the rich” mantra is baloney. It would not make a dent in the deficit. The problem is making it easier to be unemployed and taking taking taking from those who are working and being productive. When any administration starts to look at the waste, fraud and corruption then I might believe them. They could save a lot more than they could make by “taxing the rich”. BTW, calling $250,000 millionaires and billionaires is mind boggling–why are they not called out on that??????
Someone asked why the tax cut for the middle class was only for one year. The real answer is that the real money is there because of the numbers. In a second term with nothing to loose, just watch those taxes go up. You know the hogs have to keep the trough full.
Good Morning One & All
May today be the best day of your LIFE!!!
@d.d. Good Morning and good Morning to letmethink
We had our little political breakfast this morning, and we really got a look at some fresh and very good stats. Even my Democratic friends at the table agreed that it now looks like the House and the Senate is going to go GOP.
The numbers are now showing it could even be a wave forming and the gains could be substantial.
It also now appears that (I Hate the Guy) but Dick Morris may be correct. If the Un-decided votes goes the way of History, Romney may have a 4 point lead. The charts we looked at this morning show a 10% un-decided vote could break GOP and 4% Liberal.
Basically, the Presidential race is a toss-up at this point.
GOOD MORNING! SORRY I HAVE TO SHOUT BUT THESE HUGE FANS AND DEHUMIDIFIERS ARE SO LOUD! I HOPE THEY COME BACK TODAY WITH A QUIETER WAY OF COMPLETING THE DRY OUT PROCESS.
@Ratboy
Now my ear hurts, Thanks Man
Oh? Good Morning
Well fred Upton won his primary easily and is set up for another win in November and Pete Hoekstra will go up against Debbie Stabanow.
@Ratboy
Tea Party is what now 5 for 5 in the primaries?
I’m “just asking”
Has MSNBC reported yet that that woman in the Obama ad, actually died years after her factory closed? And in fact had another job and health care after that plant closed?
Alittle while ago, the anchor on CNN just about destroyed the Obama guy about it.

Last night on Hannity Sununu went throught the entire string of LIES from this ad. This is the most disgusting and vile attemp to win an election! They have no shame or morals and it really disgusts me how low they are sinking.
Obama, the king of civility is not saying a word about this or Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their BS lies BUT……………many on the left are STILL buying into this garbage! MAKES ME SICK!!!
