Carbon Credits Gone Awry Raise Output of Harmful Gas (Cap and Trade)

This is the scheme that Al Gore, the United Nations, Obama and the Democrats are wanting to push on Americans and American businesses. It’s all fraud and is called cap and trade.

RANJIT NAGAR, India — When the United Nations wanted to help slow climate change, it established what seemed a sensible system.

Greenhouse gases were rated based on their power to warm the atmosphere. The more dangerous the gas, the more that manufacturers in developing nations would be compensated as they reduced their emissions.

But where the United Nations envisioned environmental reform, some manufacturers of gases used in air-conditioning and refrigeration saw a lucrative business opportunity.

They quickly figured out that they could earn one carbon credit by eliminating one ton of carbon dioxide, but could earn more than 11,000 credits by simply destroying a ton of an obscure waste gas normally released in the manufacturing of a widely used coolant gas. That is because that byproduct has a huge global warming effect. The credits could be sold on international markets, earning tens of millions of dollars a year.

That incentive has driven plants in the developing world not only to increase production of the coolant gas but also to keep it high — a huge problem because the coolant itself contributes to global warming and depletes the ozone layer. That coolant gas is being phased out under a global treaty, but the effort has been a struggle.

So since 2005 the 19 plants receiving the waste gas payments have profited handsomely from an unlikely business: churning out more harmful coolant gas so they can be paid to destroy its waste byproduct. The high output keeps the prices of the coolant gas irresistibly low, discouraging air-conditioning companies from switching to less-damaging alternative gases. That means, critics say, that United Nations subsidies intended to improve the environment are instead creating their own damage.

The United Nations and the European Union, through new rules and an outright ban, are trying to undo this unintended bonanza. But the lucrative incentive has become so entrenched that efforts to roll it back are proving tricky, even risky

Over 100 Million Now Receiving Some Form of Federal Welfare

Obama smiling from ear to ear. He, and his party, want/need a nation of dependents.

A new chart set to be released later today by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee details a startling statistic: “Over 100 Million People in U.S. Now Receiving Some Form Of Federal Welfare.”

43% of Legal & Illegal Immigrants Are on Some Type of Welfare

Welcome to the USA. Land where half the population is freeloaders.

Immigrants lag behind native-born Americans on most measures of economic well-being — even those who have been in the U.S. the longest, according to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies, which argues that full assimilation is a more complex task than overcoming language or cultural differences.

The study, which covers all immigrants, legal and illegal, and their U.S.-born children younger than 18, found that immigrants tend to make economic progress by most measures the longer they live in the U.S. but lag well behind native-born Americans on factors such as poverty, health insurance coverage and homeownership.

The study, based on 2010 and 2011 census data, found that 43 percent of immigrants who have been in the U.S. at least 20 years were using welfare benefits, a rate that is nearly twice as high as native-born Americans and nearly 50 percent higher than recent immigrants.

The report was released at a time when both major presidential candidates have backed policies that would make it easier to immigrate legally and would boost the numbers of people coming to the U.S.

Morgan Stanley Considers Shutting Offices, Cutting Staff: Sources

    CNBC

Morgan Stanley is considering closing brokerage offices, laying off support staff and requiring some branch managers also to generate revenue as advisers under a cost-cutting drive, three people briefed on internal discussions said.

Redundant offices from Morgan Stanley’s and Smith Barney’s nationwide networks will be closed, and support jobs will be eliminated.

It was not immediately clear how many jobs are in jeopardy, although as many as 100 offices could be closed, one of the sources said.

    *Lanny Davis Blast Obama Camp

Lanny Davis, a widely respected Democrat and one-time top advisor to President Clinton, blasted the ad and in the strongest possible language demanded Obama repudiate it:

“Bill Burton needs to go back to ethics school,” Davis said of the group’s senior strategist, who is a former Obama White House spokesman. “He knows perfectly well that the ad is misleading and disgusting and he needs to apologize for it.” …

Davis said the president shouldn’t allow his supporters to suggest that Romney is in any way to blame for the woman’s death.

“President Obama owes it to the American people to repudiate this ad,” he said.

Can’t wait until I back in the good time zone. This schedule is messed up. The worst thing is I have direct TV. All programing is still based on Tampa.

Matthew – You seem to have a chronic inability to understand the difference between “not a priority” and “nothing to worry about.”

    —————————-

You can continue to use % of GDP & the rest of your gobbly gook. If we’re running $1.3 deficits & $450 billion is being paid on interests on the debt then about 1/3 of the deficit is interests payments. Thats with interests rates at record lows. If you can’t see that spending on interests alone is a problem thats your opinion. The time is fast approaching when choices have to be made. Your talking like % of GDP is locked in place for the foreseeable future no matter what.

All your this republican said that & that republican’s budget was scored as this doesn’t mean squat to me. I’ve said before i would prefer Jim Demits, Ron & Rand Paul’s budget plans. I know they would never pass congress. So I’ll go with the Mack/penny plan. I’m in favor of cutting spending first. Then after that has happened & there’s still a problem look at the revenue side.

    Interest per citizen = $12,290
Total debt per person = $181,340
    Liability per person = $1,052,314

None of that matters because % of GDP is what counts. Those numbers in no way pose a threat to future GDP. Short term debt is added to long term debt. That don’t matter we have to go further in debt to fix things. Again ——->

  • John Johnson

If these numbers are correct (which I do not believe they are since they show Fox News having far more viewers than CNN and the rest), then I sadly have to admit that America is a lost cause, and no longer what it used to be as a nation that stood for something. It shows America consists of a bunch of redneck bigots who love to NOT use their brain.

  • twins fan

    @john johnson
your a moron. but you already knew that.

  • Bo

I would like to have a news program that is truly a news program and not a reporter’s opinion. Fox News has the most viewers because they are the closest to being “fair and balanced”. I watch Fox News for this reason but I would really rather have a news program that just reported the news, all the news. At this moment I can only think of examples from a conservative view point but I am sure there are others on both sides.
One example is when Senator Reid accused Mitt Romney of not paying his taxes. There should have been an investigation into his source. If he had a source then there is an issue of someone releasing personal tax information. If he did not have a source then he was lying.
There are many other examples of the “mainstream” news media not being trustworthy.
I try to be open minded but find it very difficult when I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT I CAN TRUST THE MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA!
