    @JayTN

    I believe the GAA studio is right above the GMA studio. I think GAA uses the same studio that Dick Clark used on New Year’s Eve (again, can’t confirm this, just judging from the window views on the show). Yes, I believe if ABC had GAA from the start, GAA would probably last (but GH wouldn’t). It would have had more of a chance to find a permanent audience. GAA is not a bad show, I just don’t think it was developed right.

    @David

    It’s about time we agreed on something! I think that ABC getting behind GH with the TCA tour, the promotions for the show AND the timeslot move, and so forth are one last big push for GH. GH needs to take full advantage of this to get their ratings up. Because of this, the “people didn’t know about the show” and “people didn’t know it moved timeslots” reason are NOT going to be justifiable when it comes time to make a decision about GH.

    @MBmomof3

    I think Katie is going to flop because her show costs WAY too much. With the amount of money ABC is putting into this, they could have produced TWO OLTL’s. Even if she gets ratings similar to B&B, they could still lose a ton of money. If Katie fails, ABC is going to kick themselves majorly for rearranging their entire lineup for her. It’ll be easier for her to fail, too. Since Katie airs in an affiliate-controlled timeslot, the affiliates could individually drop her or if they are obligated to air her, she will get moved to 2am. Then, the affiliates could fill the 3pm timeslot with a show from another distributor, resulting in a major cash loss for ABC. Of course, ABC will blame Katie Couric, and she will probably get fired from ABC News.

  • Richard

    Pinkle,

    I agree with you about the excuses. ABC is playing very smart PR moves this time around. They are sinking money into GH, giving it promotion, etc. They are getting the word out that GH is moving and showing support. In the end they will be able to say — hey we did our part. As to whether that works with folks they should know that it will not. They will still get the blame when they pull the plug.

    As to Katie, I would love like everyone else to know the details of the contract with ABC World, ABC and the affiliates.

    According to the webmaster at SON who answered some questions posed by viewers yesterday, ABC gave the affiliates the 2 p.m. timeslot in exchange for airing Katie. And apparently it is theirs to keep even if Katie fails.

    Apparently they had to agree to air Katie at that time slow. But for how long no one knows.

    Knowing ABC I bet they put some clause in there to protect themselves and the show. Just that has never been revealed. But I bet they had to agree to air Katie at 2 p.m. for a certain amount of time — probably at least for 1 full season. Just guessing.

    Like Jay said the other day there may even be something in there that Katie gets an automatic 2 seasons or something to that affect like other talk and syndicated shows.

    And I am sure Katie won’t be included in the regular daytime ratings since she will not air on just ABC as she will be airing on other networks too.

    We will have to wait for syndicated ratings to see her ratings I would imagine. But I am sure if she does good ABC will boast how well she does on their affiliates with press releases.

  • David

    @Pinkle I have to agree, no one can use the excuse that the time change was not known. Since July ABC during General Hospital has a graphic up at the bottom right of the screen the entire show that says General Hospital is moving to a new time. Since the beginning of August at least once per episode they air an ad that says GH is moving to a new time starting Sept 10. So def the time slot change will not be an excuse.

    And shockingly for once Richard and I agree ABC has done their part so far as far as being behind General Hospital.

  • Mike

    Interesting, working from home today and just saw in the Baltimore market, GH is staying at 3pm after 9/10. I wonder how many other markets are doing the same. Katie’s show follows at 4PM. I’m going to see if I can determine the plan for the DC market.

  • David

    @Mike that is interesting, that is the first I had heard of GH staying in the 3pm slot in any market. That will cause confusion for people in thsoe markets as ABC has been pushing the time slot change pretty hard right now.

  • David

    What I don’t get is Richard acting like the entire OLTL cast was brought over. There were 3 characters Todd, Mcbain, and Starr. Blair and Tea have made occasional appearances but are not on all the time. But as Laura Wright who plays Carly said in her interview, you are never going to make everyone happy, no matter what they do.

  • Mike

    It may but it was clear. The announcer said “GH is staying at 3PM” and the line up showed a “Right This Minute” at 2pm. This show airs at 4pm in Baltimore now. Then GH, the Katie. I haven’t seen any similar ads in the DC market. Anderson airs at 4pm for now.

    SPOILER ALERT

    On another note, knew Tim would be dead at the end or Y&R today, just had that “been watching these things for years” gut feeling. Finally made it through an entire episode of B&B and if were home on Monday, I’d watch again. I do see why this appeals to women 18-49 as it seems to be written specifically for this audience.

    I truly believe if GH continues to tell the stories we’re seeing, they will make it. I’m still being blown away. Awesome job there.

  • David

    @Mike well good that the affiliate is making it clear, but I still see confusion with the graphic that is up the entire episode of GH saying 2pm. Do you know if the affiliate show the GH is moving to a new time ads?

    This is where ABC needs to have more control of not allowing affiliates to move around time slots of shows, but I would imagine the time slot change is happening in most markets. I hope the Baltimore affiliates 2pm ratings are not configured into the national ABC rating as that 2pm show whatever it is would bring down the national GH rating if it is included

  • Pinkle

    The Baltimore station will probably receive the feed of GH at 2pm, like every other station, but they will tape-delay it until 3pm. Don’t know how that plays into ratings or not.

  • David

    @Pinkle the ratings go by who is tuned to that specific channel at a particular time. The station will receive it via satellite at 2pm. However the problem is things like this mess with national ratings when a program is moved around to a different slot in certain markets. I believe in some cases whatever airs in the national time slot will actually be factored into the national rating of a show or maybe it is left out completely I forget exactly how that works, but I have seen it cause issues when an affilaite will preempt prime time programming for a particular local sporting event or such

  • Mike

    Funny thing David, they did show the “GH is moving” ad during the show, but the local commercial stated this stations intention.

  • MBmomof3

    JayTN, even you must admit that the (-60%) numbers almost across the board from OLTL to GAA are impressive, to say the least. And we know that the Revolution was even WORSE. Those are mindblowing numbers even when you consider the low cost of production for GAA or The Rev. Sorry, but ABC Daytime pulled a “new Coke”.

    Also, this doesn’t even factor in “brand loyalty” which is, perhaps, immesurable to some degree, but nonetheless, important. I am one of, I am sure millions, of lifetime ABC Daytime viewers that will NEVER be loyal to ABC/D beyond GH. I won’t even sample their primetime fare out of principal (or for Seinfeld fans “spite” lol). I’m glad for the fan’s sake ABC got a clue what that means and are FINALLY promoting GH and investing in its future, no matter how short lived that may be. Also, I must give “props” to the cast and crew who, I believe, are working their tails off to make this work. They seem totally invested and committed to making this work despite the challenges of putting on a 5 day per week, 52 week per year, production. I am truly impressed with their product and enjoy it every day! Thanks GH and ABC.

  • Brad

    So ABC has ran promos in my area announcing GH moving to 2pm on September 10th. However, my affiliate hasn’t announced where GH will air. They did however run a promo for Katie that says she is airing at 4pm! The time that Anderson airs in my area! What does this mean for Anderson! YIKES! lol

  • PJ

    Ratings are posted over at another site GH was up across the board it even gained 46,000 in the 18-49 demo and in a huge surprise was number 1 in 18-34 beating Y&&R,, very surprising

  • Brad

    I’m glad GH increased in Women 18-34 and 18-49. They are narrowing that year-ago 18-49 gap! I think since the soaps were up that it just proves that people are slowly getting tired of talk shows. Sorry if that offends anyone. lol. and Don’t say it was the Olympics because GH rose to #1 in 18-34 and ALL soaps were up in Total Viewers. People just don’t want to watch 9 million talk shows a day.

  • Mike

    A very slow rise in key demo is exactly what we want for GH. A small bump each week shows folks are coming back. YES!!!!! I am very encouraged.
