TV Ratings Wednesday: Olympics Again Score Ratings Gold, 'Big Brother' Down, 'Final Witness' Up, 'Go On' Preview Strong

NBC was the #1 network with adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

Update: The Go On preview, which aired commercial free from 11:06-11:30PM, averaged a 5.6 adults 18-49 rating, and garnered 16.1 million total viewers. It will not be measured in official national Nielsen reports and wll not be included in averages for the night, week or season.

On NBC,  coverage of the XXX Olympic Games scored a 9.2 rating from 8-11 PM up from an 8.1 fast national for the same night of the Beijing games, but down 5% from last Wednesday's fast nationals. The preview of the new comedy Go On which aired from  earned a 6.4 adults 18-49 rating from 11-11:30PM, but this number includes 6 minutes of the Olympics, so it will almost certainly go down when the final ratings come in later this afternoon.

On CBS, Big Brother matched its series low with a 1.8 18-49 rating, down 10% from last week's 2.0,.

On ABC,  Final Witness garnered a 0.8 among adults 18-49, up 14% from last week's 0.7.

Definitions: Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    To Aerilyn– I think that Animal Practice will do well because of its lead-in. Personally , I hope Grimm does well. I find it to be a very imaginative show. It has a little comedy , drama, and suspense to it.

    Big Brother is being Big Brother. They have to do something each season to keep it fresh and exciting. Go On, didn’t even know what that was, until I read Matthew Perry. So, it appears to be a fail for NBC, like 30 Rock (which it appears to be trying to emulate ) has become?

    @Oliver– it’s a beating a dead horse argument used whenever someone expresses negativity towards a single cam. Get used to it, it’s like a catchphrase on this site. Of course, the flip side is, if anyone expresses positivity towards a multi cam they are accused of being dumb. So really, it’s a flawed argument on both sides.

    As to Go On, I… I have no idea what to make of it. I got the premise, I got the characters, I laughed a few times, but I haven’t been so clueless as what a show was supposed to be week to week since New Girl last year. Gut reaction? It struck me as a little bland. I’ll probably watch through november and stop if it hasn’t hooked me. Then again, with 30 Rock and (unfortunately probably) community ending, I’m pretty invested in finding a new sitcom, so, I might stick it out for longer, even if it stays at this level.

    Of Course “Go On’ did well in the ratings that was a no brainer! But it was horrible! It’s just another bland unoriginal sitcom trying too hard!

    You know guys, not ALL sitcoms have to be funny right of the bat and make you laugh every five to ten seconds or minute like The Big Bang Theory does; there’s nothing wrong with having one that just makes you smile and chuckle but is enough to keep your attention for half an hour.

    Go on was great i thought it it was hilarious and heart warming at the same time. You can’t say that about many other sitcoms…

    I actually thought it was cool..When reading about it a couple months back, I didn’t think I’d bother..But now I have another Tuesday show to try to squeeze in to my already WWAAYYY overcrowded tv schedule!
