Note: Due to an overrun of  PGA coverage, CBS ratings will be subject to more than typical adjustments in the final ratings, which will be posted tomorrow.

UPDATED: The preview of Animal Practice that aired at 10:58 PM averaged  a 4.1 rating in adults 18-49 and 12.8 million viewers overall. Click here for more.

On NBC the closing ceremonies of the XXX Olympic Games, earned a 9.1 rating from 8:30-11PM,  up  32% from the Fast Nationals of the Closing Ceremonies four years ago in Beijing. Earlier in the night, the London Gold  special earned a 5.7 adults 18-49 rating.

On CBS, Big Brother was delayed due to a PGA programming overrun, but the remainder of an episode of 60 Minutes and the portion of Big Brother that aired at the 8PM hour earned a 1.9 rating, down from last week's  2.1 adults 18-49 rating. However, major adjustments are likely due to the overrun, so keep an eye out for the final ratings tomorrow for a more accurate number. On ABC, Secret Millionaire earned a 1.0 rating, up from last week's series low 0.8 among adults 18-49.  At 9PM Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition earned a 0.9 rating, up a tenth from last week's 0.8 adults 18-49 rating.

Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2012 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Enjoyed the closing ceremonies. I thought everyone did a great job in their performances. Nice seeing the video footage of John Lennon and Freddie Mercury and it was neat how they blended them into the performances. It was fun seeing the Spice Girls and thought Jessie J did a great job with Queen singing “We Will Rock You”!!

BB14 was ok, but so predictable. I figured Frank would put Wil and Joe up for eviction and that is exactly what he did.

  • Melanie

Oh yeah, I wondered what happened to the Who’s performance, but Animal Practice cut into it, that explains it.

Now if only we can fast forward to February 7, 2014 — the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi — or for that matter, even August 5, 2016 — the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. What’s weird about the SUMMER Olympics being held in August in Rio de Janeiro is that it’s in the Southern Hemisphere, so it will be winter there — but Rio is in the tropics (just north of the Tropic of Capricorn), so there’s no winter there; it’ll still be nice and warm.

    @Amanda Kondolojy

The overrun wasn’t a PGA Tour event; it’s the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour, that runs the PGA Championship. In fact, none of the four majors are run by the PGA Tour (The Masters is run by Augusta National Golf Club, the U.S. Open is run by the United States Golf Association, and the Open Championship is run by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club at St. Andrews).

NBC once again pissed off viewers for switching to another one of their 0.9 quality shows instead of showing a good chunk of the closing ceremonies. NBC should be banned from all future Olympics — as well as from creating any future shows. Modern Day (N)ot (B)roadcasting (C)orrectly continues to be the WORST network in the history of television

Definitely disappointed in Animal Practice. I know someone that worked behind the scenes on the pilot (i.e. last nights episode) so I wanted to give it a chance, but I won’t be watching it again. I think the folks at NBC watched Childrens Hospital on Adult Swim and thought “we can do that… with animals!”. No low rated broadcast network, you can’t.

@Chris, They held the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney and that is not in the tropics. However, winter in Syndey isn’t all that different from Summer in London. As you sort of point out there is no such thing as winter in the tropics. All that matters is that the climate is conducive to the games.

Deadline say Animal Practice pulled 4.1 in 18-49.

  • K

Who cares? Olympics are finally over. Good bye and good riddance.

  • Nick

Animal Practice is gonna fail so bad.

  • Rebecca

They showed footage of John Lennon? I saw the Freddie Mercury bit (and I wish George Michael had done the song with Queen – he was great with them at the old Freddie Mercury Tribute concert a long time ago; I used to have it all on video) but didn’t see any Lennon. Also saw some writer on Yahoo say a choir sang “Imagine” but I didn’t catch that…if it’s the choir I saw, they sang “Because” (another Lennon tune). I thought it was too bad they only did a video thing of David Bowie rather than have him there in person (or maybe he wasn’t asked or didn’t want to do it, I don’t know). I heard the Rolling Stones said they were out of practice so they didn’t opt to do the Closing. It would have been better to keep The Who (their whole 8 minutes) in the actual Closing coverage we saw, before showing Animal Practice.

I enjoyed Animal Practice but it could be better…I like Tyler Labine and Justin Kirk but I’m used to them acting goofier. Make them goofier, NBC. lol

  • Rebecca

YouTube has videos of Ray Davies (unaired in the U.S.), George Michael’s second song (“White Light” – I hadn’t heard of it, maybe it’s new), and there was a bit of the Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” that was showcased by acrobats before Ray Davies came on with “Waterloo Sunset”…I only saw what was in the short video on YouTube.

  • Jhern86

I think NBC did a great job on these Olympics, Every other channel would have done the same thing. As for Animal Practice, I think it was just ok.

  • Marcus

I was disappointed with the way NBC hacked up the closing ceremony by interuppting the show just to shamelessly sneek in Animal Practice and totally confuse viewers. I mean, come on there was only about 10 minutes left to show with The Who. NBC has forced the late local news to bump to a later timeslot for weeks to make room for the Olympic coverage, why couldn’t they do the same to air the whole closing ceremony?

    Spice Girls was awesome!
