Building its Numbers for the 2nd Consecutive Week, ABC’s
“NY Med” Gains 40% or More Week to Week Across Key Measures
“NY Med” Leaps Over its Lead-in, Gains Audience from Start to Finish and
Improves Tuesday’s 10 O’clock Hour Year to Year by Double-Digit Percentages
“NY Med” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Building its numbers for the 2nd week in a row during Tuesday’s 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “NY Med” shot up week to week in Total Viewers (+45% - 4.2 million vs. 2.9 million), Adults 18-49 (+43% - 1.0/3 vs. 0.7/2) and Adults 25-54 (+40% - 1.4/4 vs. 1.0/2). The show hit a 4-week high in the key Adult 25-54 news demo (tie) – since 7/17/12.
- “NY Med” jumped over its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. with Total Viewers (+147%) and Adults 18-49 (+67%), building viewers for ABC in the hour for its 6th straight telecast. Picking up audience throughout its broadcast, the sixth installment of the 8-part ABC News docu-series gained viewers (+10%) and young adults (+22%) from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.
- Continuing to improve its time period year to year for ABC, “NY Med” surged over original programming on the year-ago night (“Combat Hospital” on 8/16/11 = 3.6 million, 1.2/3 and 0.9/3) by double-digit percentages in Total Viewers (+17%), Adults 25-54 (+17%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 45% currently, from 42% at the same point in 2011. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
