TNT Renews Hit Drama Perception,
One of Basic Cable's Top New Series of 2012

TNT has ordered a second season of Perception, the hit Monday night drama starring Emmy® and Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Eric McCormack (Will & Grace, Who Is Clark Rockefeller?). Perception comes to TNT from ABC Studios and currently ranks second behind TNT's Major Crimes among basic cable's top new scripted series for the year-to-date. The network has ordered 13 episodes for season two, which is slated to air in 2013.

"Perception has captured the imagination of TNT's audience of armchair detectives with wonderfully intricate cases, emotionally charged situations and, of course, a terrific cast led by Eric McCormack," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "Daniel Pierce is a truly unique and fascinating addition to television's pantheon of crime solvers. We look forward to seeing where Perception takes us next."

TNT's Perception, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), centers on Dr. Daniel Pierce (McCormack), an eccentric neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia who is recruited by the FBI to help solve complex cases. Rachael Leigh Cook (She’s All That) stars as FBI agent Kate Moretti, Pierce’s former student who asks him to consult on her cases. The cast also includes Arjay Smith (The Day After Tomorrow) as Max Lewicki, Pierce's teaching assistant, and Kelly Rowan (The O.C.) as Natalie Vincent, Daniel's best friend and every bit his intellectual equal. In addition, award-winning actor LeVar Burton (Roots, Star Trek: The Next Generation) plays Paul Haley, a dean at the university and Pierce’s friend.

Perception was created by executive producer Ken Biller (Star Trek: Voyager, Smallville) and co-executive producer Mike Sussman (Star Trek: Enterprise). In addition to starring in the series, McCormack serves as producer.

In its first season, Perception is averaging 7 million viewers (Live + 7), with 1.8 million adults 18-49 and 2.3 million adults 25-54. The July 9 series premiere of Perception ranks third behind the Aug. 13 premiere of Major Crimes and the June 13 premiere of TNT's Dallas on the list of this year's top series debuts on cable. The season finale of Perception is set for mid-September.

    What about Leverage? :(

  • Jon

I reckon Leverage will be renewed for a final season. I reckon Franklin and Bash will be axed although with Dallas in January rather than summer, Wednesdays are free although I think Monday Mornings will air either after Rizolli and Isles or on Wednesdays.

  • Elle

    I want more Leverage!

  • Ruth

Hopefully Leverage will be renewed for a final season, but I’m not feeling too optimistic at the moment.

  • silvit

This only means that F&B is canceled. Leverage has a syndication deal, they make money out of it. Plus, given that it’s one of longest running TNT shows, it will be given a final season. No way they will cancel it w/o giving it one.

  • Cyrax86

Yeah this definitely means F&B is a goner. They will launch a new show with R&I leading in, no doubt about that.

  • SJ

Yeah, Franklin and Bash is done. I actually didn’t expect Perception to be renewed. Tepid ratings, bad reviews… but it’s the first sorta-success Eric McCormack’s had since Will and Grace ended 6 years ago so good for him.

  • rob60990

TnT usually renews everything for a 2nd season so this isn’t a shock.

  • dryr

Perception is a Monk replacement with Psych tendencies. It was a guaranteed renew.

  • Nadine

Yaay!! Great show. Great McCormack. I would have been surprised if they didn’t renew it, since it does okay vs. other TNT shows, has a large total viewership–and, because out of all expectation, they renewed F&B last year with worse numbers. I refuse to speculate about F&B — if they renewed it last year, the way it did, who knows? It has transformed its viewership.

  • Nadine

…’scuse me — that it has NOT transformed its viewership!

  • silvit

No, F&B last year didn’t have worse than this year. They were actually on par with how Perception is doing this year with the disadvantage of having a terrible lead-in (The Mentalist repeat), unlike Perception which had The Closer.

  • Ellen in NYC

Yay! Like the show but especially like Eric McCormack. I never watched Will & Grace, so I don’t know how I came to know him. Maybe watching that show “Trust Me”, which I probably tuned into because of Tom Cavanagh.

  • Ram510

Wouldve been more surprised if TNT didn’t renew a show for a second season. However I am surprised the renewal came this early

  • Ricky

    Hells yeah! Perception rocks!

But…who says F&B has to die so Perception may live? I don’t watch that one regularly but now I really wish I did. I hope TNT renews it soon.

  • A.

Pretty good show. I will continue to watch!

  • Nick

    Great news. Love this show.
This is the best day I’ve had all summer for renewals and cancelations. Melissa & Joey, Switched @ Birth, and now Perception. Now if only the networks would do early renewals too and I get more seasons of Saving Hope, Wipeout, and Hotel Hell, I’ll be set until the fall. Then I’ll start to worry again. ;-)

This does not mean F&B will be canceled. It’s still on the bubble.

  • david

good to ww see thishow get renewed for dseason two.Its a peretty good show.

  • SJ

I don’t think you need to worry about Wipeout and Hotel Hell. Raising Hope has been renewed in Canada, so worst case scenario you can torrent it next year.

  • SJ

…and by Raising Hope, I mean Saving Hope, of course.
