TV Ratings Friday: Preseason Football Leads FOX to Another 18-49 Win, '20/20' Leads 'Dateline' Newsmagazine

 Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for FOX (NFL Preseason Football) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

FOX won the night with adults 18-49, but ABC led with total viewers.

Pre-season NFL football aired on other networks in several markets, so expect adjustments to the numbers when the final ratings are released on Monday.

Note: Sorry, we only have half hours ratings today. In the meantime, averaging these half hours into ratings for each show will often lead to errors.

In late-night metered-market households Friday night:

  • In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.7/7; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 2.0/5 with an encore; and ABC's combo of "Nightline," 3.0/7; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.5/4 with an encore.

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.7/3; "Late Show," 0.5/2 with an encore; "Nightline," 0.8/4; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/2 with an encore.

  • At 12:35 a.m., "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.3/4 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (1.1/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/2 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.3/2 with an encore).

  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    With Nikita being renewed for a full 3rd season that will practically guarantee a 4th season as well for syndication purpose. Even this site mentioned that with its renewal and i would imagine a show like Nikita is going to do a hell lot better then their teen shows. Plus Nikita is killing it internationally for Warner and CW.
    Repeats hasn’t been bad either on a friday going against football and olympics this summer though it will probably be adjusted down in the finals

    Pot, meet kettle. You have made 2 errors, one has been pointed out vis a vis averaging the two half hours, the other is that it has been mention that the CW was preempted in some locations for sports yet in the fast ratings those viewers have not been removed … so the finals issued Monday may well show a drop if there were indeed preemptions and viewers of a NFL (or other event, show) were initially included in the above ratings.

    We await your apology. We shall not hold our breaths.

    Grimm Repeated ok considering that episode only aired 4 days ago with 5.2 million viewers… so a repeat with 2.6 million is very reasonable

    Colin, nikita hasnt been over 2 million in a long time and wont ever be again & it also was below 2 million for 4_5 episodes in season one and that was two seasons ago so it dosent matter.Yes, Nikita had 0.6, s for first half of season two but that dosent matter as it kept dropping and falling and bill or robert have said that how a show does in the spring is whatll do the coming fall so the 0.6 for season two dosent matter cause nikita ended season two at 0.4,losings viewers weekly.Yes,nikitas ratings last night are high as its a repeat and only occasionaly repeats well & considering its low usual ratings.

    God would you give it a rest! I’ll tell you the same as I’ve been telling everyone else; no one doesn’t know what CW’s ratings for this Season will be like for its veteran shows.

    With all of those shows available on Netflix/Hulu, they all could possibly see a possible uptick this upcoming Season.

    And btw, 9O21O has been getting the same 0.8/0.7 since Season 2. So there’s no telling what will happen. Wait until it premieres before you start talking nonsense!

    Grimm was a repeat, the premiere was on monday.
    It got 5.2 million viewers and 2.0 in the demo (highest rated episode since the season 1 premiere)
