TV Ratings Sunday: NFL Pre-Season Wins Night, 'Big Brother', 'Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition' Finale Up

Due to the nature of live sports programming the ratings for NBC (NFL Pre-season Football and Dateline) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

NBC was number one in adults 18-49  and among total viewers.

On NBC , Dateline earned a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating, up 50% from a 1.0 for its most recent telecast on July 22, 2012, though this preliminary number is likely to change because football aired in the time period in many markets. NFL Preseason Football scored a preliminary 3.0 adults 18-49 rating, down 12% from a 3.4 for last year's Game 1 fast national on August 21, 2011.

On CBS, Big Brother earned a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating, up 15% from last week's 2.0. when it aired against the Olympics closing ceremony.

On ABC, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition season finale earned a 1.1 rating, up 22% from last week's 0.9, but down 42% from a 1.9 for last season's finale on July 25, 2011.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    I don’t watch The Mentalist OR The Good Wife, but CBS sure is making one hell of a stupid move scheduling The Mentalist after The Good Wife when TM pulls better REPEAT numbers than TGW.

    The Good Wife, critically acclaimed does pretty awful in ratings and if it wasn’t one season away from syndication it would have been cancelled in May.

    Not a stupid move.

    CBS owns TGW, and will make money from it’s syndication (assuming they get it sold). CBS does not own The Mentalist.

    The amount of money CBS could (should?) make from TGW syndication is far more than the difference in ad revenues were the two shows timeslots swapped. They want TGW to do as good as it possibly can as they try and sell it.

    Glad to see that Shane nominated both Boogie and Frank for eviction on Big Brother. This Thursday’s show will have a double eviction also.

    Frank or Boogie probably will win POV taking one of them off,yada yada, yada, very predictable, lol. Football last night was really good, as it usually is when the Steelers are playing.

    Once Upon a Time did ok, considering it has been off the air for 3 months. And then I didn’t see alot of ads telling viewers that the repeats would be shown.
