In Post-Olympics Week, “ABC World News” Posts Largest Audience Growth Among Evening Newscasts Week-to-Week – “NBC Nightly News” Sees 20% Drop-Off Post-Games
For the Second Week in a Row, ABC Slashes Weekly Viewing Gaps with NBC by Double-Digits
For the week of August 13, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.04 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.76 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.
In the first week after the Olympic Games, “ABC World News” saw the largest overall audience growth week-to-week (+4%; 7.04 million vs. 6.78 million) – “NBC Nightly News” dropped –20% while “CBS Evening News” was up by +3%.
For the second week in a row, “World News” slashed its margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-74% - 769,000 vs. 3.00 million) and Adults 25-54(-61% - 416,000 vs. 1.07 million) to post its smallest margins with the NBC program in 4 weeks – since w/o 7/16/12.
Season-to-date, “World News” is narrowing its gap with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-16%), delivering its smallest news demo margin (393,000) with the NBC program in 3 years – since the 2008-09 season.
“World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.52 million Total Viewers and 135,000 Adults 25-54, turning in its largest Total Viewer lead over the CBS program in 4 weeks – since w/o 7/16/12.
