Greenlit Pilots Include “The Fosters,” to Be Executive-Produced by Jennifer Lopez,

And “Socio,” to Be Executive-Produced by Gavin Polone

BURBANK, CA (August 23, 2012) – ABC Family, the millennial-skewing network, has greenlit two new drama pilots, “The Fosters” (working title), from executive producer Jennifer Lopez, and “Socio,” from executive producer Gavin Polone. Summer to date, ABC Family’s current crop of original series have made ABC Family cable TV’s #1 network in Prime in Women 18-34, and the #2 cable TV network in Females 12-34 and Female Teens.

“ABC Family continues to find and develop original programming that adds new dimension and depth to the storytelling we offer,” said Kate Juergens, executive vice president, Original Programming and Development, ABC Family. “Both these shows are headed by wonderful executive producers who know the millennial space well and know how to connect with audiences.”

From executive producer Jennifer Lopez (“American Idol,” “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” “The Back-Up Plan”) and created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige, who will also serve as writers and executive producers, “The Fosters” is a one-hour drama about a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids being raised by two moms. Simon Fields and Greg Gugliotta will also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Nuyorican Productions, Inc., and Prodco, Inc.

“Socio” is a one-hour drama centered on a charismatic 16-year-old alleged sociopath who recently reconnected with his two female best friends from childhood, and who becomes the prime suspect when a fellow student is murdered. The series will be executive-produced by Gavin Polone (“Gilmore Girls,” “Zombieland,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “My Boys,” “Jane by Design). Adam Milch (Greek), who wrote the pilot, will also serve as co-executive producer. The series is produced by Prodco, Inc.

The Jennifer Lopez produced show, actually sounds interesting!

  • Hod

    Two moms?

  • rob60990

    ^ (eye roll)

Socio is an awful title and the premise is too thin to work long term.

  • Kaylie

    Both shows look interesting.

  • ethan

This is truly sad…abcf is going to the dogs…ever since riley took over and redd went to abc the networks new projects aside from s@b have just been major fails…and interestingly now abc has the best looking pilots after haveing the 2 best new shows last year(revenge and ouat)…this guy is obviously very good at what he does its a shameabcf replaced him with somebody so bad…the j lo shows souns like an nbc comedy not a drama…abosulutly awful…the other one could be ok depending on how they do it…sigh…I guess I just miss the good old days of greek miobi, secret life being less of a mess than it is now…even pll which aways has me interested isn’t brining it the way it used to

  • Nick

The Fosters looks OK, but I’ll have to learn mor begore I check it out.
Socio looks terrible. I won’t be watching.

  • Nick

Sorry, I meant I will have to learn more before I check it out.

  • Brandy

Neither sound good to me, won’t be watching.Hope they pick up other better new shows.PLL, Bunheads,Lying Game are only good shows on this network now(Jane by Design & MioBI were good but cancelled).I expect Beverley Hills Nannies to be cancelled so they can pick up a third new pilot, hopefully Marlene Kings Now & Then reboot(I loved that movie).

  • convigton11

trust me – the fosters is NOT an nbc comedy. it’s actually a quality product. good for abcf for daring to be original and even a bit controversial.

  • Jared

Socio seems a little dark for ABCF..unless its more in the vein of PLL.

  • Dan

Since ABC family always cancels a drama and renews 1 of there two summer dramas, my guess is The Fosters will get a full season and Socio will be axed.

  • glover

Produced by JLo? Finally something interesting coming from this network.

  • Steve

How many projects has Jlo done that have gone anywhere, can’t count? When is this women going to give up the entertainment business, please after 20 years in the industry and nothing to show-Oscar’s,Grammy’s. Go home a be a mother?

  • theyleftsomethingout

When the J Lopez pilot was announced several weeks ago the entire premise was “groundbreaking” because the two Mothers were gay.

Has ABC Family removed that from the script already?

  • John A

Socio might be ok but JLO show i have no interest in.

  • david

The Fosters could be good. Socio sounds interesting. Sounds like a murder Mystery type of show.

  • tv#1

Socio sounds good. I am glad to see that ABC Family is trying to develop more thriller type series. Pretty Little Liars has been one of their most successful original series, so I am surprised that the only other thriller series they have done has been The Lying Game.

  • Tony JJ

The Fosters sounds boring and just bleh.

Socio sounds interesting, hopefully it will be executed properly. ABC Family should be looking for more mystery/thriller/genre type shows. Along with family shows too, don’t get me wrong, but they should try to develop their next PLL sized hit.

  • Sid

Socio sounds like the companion show for PLL.

    The Fosters=Zzzzzz

  • silvit

Well, considering that the description says two moms I think they are indeed gay ;-)(I can’t use the proper L word because of the spamming filter).

Other than that, I don’t see how this concept is groundbreaking since it’s how gay (no L word again for the spamming) female couples are ALWAYS portrayed on tv/movies. They always have a baby in the middle (ER, Grey’s Anatomy etc etc).

I still have to see a female gay couple as only a couple, as happens for their hetero counterpart. Obviously they are boring. How can they not to with a little brat?
Personally, all couples, straight or gay, are boring. I can’t stand will they/won’t they kind of type show.
