I’m with you, Richard, in regards to American Horror Story…I LOVED it!!! And, like you, I cannot stomach Glee…it’s so syruppy and sappy and ridiculous!

  • Kayla Rae

I really hope that Will and Sonny fall in love and become a couple on Days…that would be so romantic! They have great chemistry together and I’m looking forward to the development of their relationship. It was great to witness Sonny give it back to T today when he punched him in retaliation for the sucker punch T gave him the day before. Go Sonny! Go Days!

  • David

@mB Alan might not get a huge storyline but I think he would get something, far better than he had under previous writers. Would love to see his return better than seeing another OLTL character. At this point GH has enough of Llanview on the show with Burton gone frees up budget hope they use it to bring Alan or Nikolas back!

  • Joe

    GO DAYS AND GH!!!!

  • Richard

I admit this will seem kind of picky to some folks, but I really hate when script writers don’t do their homework and then when the breakdown and head writer don’t do their homework on characters.

Someone yesterday really messed up with the throw away line that John made about what happens to boys in prison. And having Dante laugh at it.

A writer knowing Dante’s history with his brother Michael wouldn’t have had Dante so casually laugh at that IMO. Another character yes but not Dante.

But so far what I am seeing out of Ron C. and reading his history at OLTL or hearing about it from fans — maybe Ron C. doesn’t see rape as that big of a thing. To me just even in a short time of him at GH he takes forced sex and sex at the disadvantage of someone else so lightly. And I heard he did that at OLTL with having people raped or forced or folks taking advantage of a person not in their right mind.

What already he has had Kate raped in the past and then had Johnny take advantage of her and sleep with her.

I know that he didn’t do the rape story with Michael, but someone should have studied the characters.

  • David

Are you kidding me wow Richard continues to be so sad with his posts. Now he is trying to say that Ronc C condones rape. Wow seriously and he wonders why I call hima hater just so ridiculous, wow unreal

  • JayTN

Richard…Ron Carlivati does seem to have a cavalier attitude about rape. I wonder if he is any relation to Congressman Todd Akin? That is one reason why I never really liked the character of Todd Manning…the way that Carlivati attempted to gloss over the fact that he raped Marty by saying that he was either young and stupid (it happened while the two characters were in college) or he really loved Marty. The way that Todd berated, bullied, intimidated, harassed, etc. other OLTL characters – yet was treated as just someone that is misunderstood (both by the writing staff and some fans) – was simply disgusting.

I did not see or hear the comment you referenced between John McBain and Dante, but it would be inappropriate for Dante to laugh at the (apparent) insinuation of prison rape by McBain (i.e. such as the old joke about dropped soap in the shower).

For soaps to be primarily driven by female viewers, a shocking number of storylines seem to be misogynist in tone.

Kayla Rae…I don’t know if I’m right or not (only time will tell), but I have a feeling I know where the Sonny/Will/”T” storyline is headed. I would not be surprised to see that Gabi becomes pregnant with Will’s child, as a result of their encounter when Will was doubting his sexuality. Gabi will probably attempt to try and pass Chad off as the father (since Chad’s romance with Melanie will have to end since the actress/character is leaving the show). Personally, I think that “T” ‘doth protest to much’, to quote Shakespeare. He seems to have an unhealthy fascination with Will and/or Sonny and whether or not people think he is gay by having hung around the two in the past. “T” – who seems to be a ‘closet case’ – will probably impulsively kiss either Sonny or Will and the other person will walk in on them.

I happen to agree with Richard on this point. Dante’s brother was raped in prison, he would hardly find that a laughing matter. If anything they could have used that line as an opportunity to show the power of what that all means, even in just a look by Dante in response to John’s remark. That is what good acting is about to me.

I watched “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” for the millionth time the other night (one of my favorite books and movie)and even after seeing this movie soooo many times, it hit home to me how much an actor can “say” with just body language or a facial expression. It isn’t always about the written word in acting. Just an observation.

  • JayTN

MBmomof3…I typically don’t follow soap casting news, but I did run across the news item that Phelps/Griffith have already made what may be their first casting change/decision. Robert Adamson will take over the role of Noah Newman on Y&R from the departing Kevin Schmidt. Adamson was most recently seen on Nick’s “Hollywood Heights”, which Phelps produced and Griffith wrote.

Speaking of the whole debate about “Days” and how their sets may look ‘cheap’, I happened to be flipping thru the channels one day and ran across an episode of “Hollywood Heights” on Nick. It was a kitchen set with an adult character talking to a teenage character (played by the actress who played Langston on OLTL). The set was horrendous, absolutely awful. It was so obviously cheap…it almost had a community theatre feel to it.

  • Richard

Thanks Jay and Mom. Excellent points.

Mom, I agree about the acting with your eyes. Many actors have that ability to be able to say so much just from their eyes, facial expressions, etc. Some don’t.

Jodie Foster is one of those that can. Tony Geary can at times when he is really on top of his game.

  • Richard

Oh Jay, When I was reading up on trying to find out who the h*ll Marti was after the John/Todd fight, I read about that rape. But I had also read that Todd later took advantage of Marti when had amnesia or something too and slept with her again.

    Was that with Carlavati writing?

I thought of Johnny taking advantage of Kate when I read that.

  • JayTN

Richard…yes, Carlivati was the head writer of OLTL when Todd held Marty ‘hostage’ while suffering from memory loss. As is his M.O., Carlivati had Todd do this ‘out of love’ for Marty. Never mind that he allowed Marty’s son – the father of Todd’s granddaughter – to think that his only surviving parent was dead. Todd has a rather macabre way of showing his ‘love’.

  • MBmomof3

JayTN, when I read the Y&R recast news and then the Steve Burton interview all I could think of was “Friends of Jill” or FOJ as it became infamously known. Apparently Steve Burton is collaborating with JFP & James Franco on a project together. The reason that concerns me about her being at the helm at Y&R is because it already seems business as usual for Ms. Faren Phelps. On the plus side, maybe we will see Laura return to GH in time for the big 5-0 and the birth of Lulu & Dante’s baby. I don’t believe Genie Francis is FOJ and is over 40. If my prediction is wrong, I give you all permission to mercilessly call me out on it;)

I haven’t seen “Hollywood Heights” yet, but have been meaning to check it out and will see if I can find it On-Demand. I’m curious how that project turned out. I hope she doesn’t make Y&R look cheap, because to me it is the most “glamorous” of the remaining soaps (although B&B is a close second).

  • MBmomof3

Richard & JayTN, That storyline is playing out right now on SOAPNet’s Classic OLTL (2008 is classic?). I absolutely hated that storyline then and I hate it now. As much as I love and miss OLTL I am finding myself FF or just deleting it from my DVR because it is awful. Also, having seen it, I know it gets worse when Todd plans to steal his and Marty’s grandchild from the hospital after his daughter gives birth and run away with Marty & the baby. So evil & creepy on so many levels.

  • Pat

I agree with your statement about Y and R’s look. Both the Bell shows have the best production overall, and with the exception of the LML years on Y and R, I’ve always admired the entire production team and what they’ve accomplished. When you turn on Y and R…you know what you are watching. Surely we won’t see Burton on Y and R. Not needed.

  • Stacy

I thought the samething about RC and his rape stories. To me it seems as if rape isn’t a bad thing to RC.

When I was watching GH yesterday and saw that scene with Dante and John I thought the exact samething as you.

  • David

Actually Todd was not the one who held Marty hostage it was Todd’s brother who had taken over Todd’s life.

And reforming Todd was far before Ron C was at the helm of OLTL but once again Richard wants to make RC look bad so he can continue his hating.

I don’t think he doesn’t think rape is a bad thing. That is the most ridiculous thing to say. He actually also started re-visiting Michael dealing with what happened in prison yesterday. But I am sure Richard will continue to hate. Really pathetic

I think it was someone on here who had mentioned that an ABC affiliate in the Tupelo, MS area was shutting down. Well ABC has found a replacement station in the market according to soap opera network:

On Monday, August 13, Soap Opera Network first brought you the story of WKDH, an ABC affiliate that will cease operations effective Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:59 PM CT after citing poor financial conditions in recent years as its reasoning. Now Soap Opera Network has learned that the ABC Television Network, which was left scrambling to replace the 11-year-old affiliate, has signed a long-term agreement with WTVA, an NBC affiliate that had actually provided WKDH with ABC programming through a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Southern Broadcasting, Inc. (WKDH’s parent company). The new deal, by utilizing WTVA digital channel 9.2, will enable ABC programming to remain in the Columbus/Tupelo/West Point television market and is effective Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 12:35 AM, Central Time.

“We are delighted to reach a long-term affiliation agreement with ABC and be able to provide a solid lineup of programming such as ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘Revenge’ and ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ critically-acclaimed news and information series including ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘World News with Diane Sawyer’ and high profile sports programming like ‘Saturday Night Football,’” said Phil Sullivan, Station Manager, WTVA, in a statement.

John Rouse, senior vice president of Affiliate Relations for ABC, echoed Sullivan’s comments. “We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with WTVA coverage in the Columbus/Tupelo market, and that local viewers will continue to be able to see all their favorite ABC and ESPN on ABC programs, including this Saturday’s 2012 Cowboys Classic featuring Michigan vs. Alabama.”

As part of the deal between WTVA and ABC, WTVA 9.2 will now service viewers with local news coverage. WKDH did not air any local programming as its primary service was in providing viewers with ABC’s content. Outside of ABC’s programming, WKDH aired the syndicated programs “Rachael Ray,” “The Nate Berkus Show,” “The Wendy Williams Show,” “Access Hollywood,” “The Insider” and “Entertainment Tonight.” WKDH also aired re-runs of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “Frasier” and “Grey’s Anatomy.”

It is unclear at this time as to whether those syndicated programs will continue airing on WTVA digital channel 9.2.

Big cliffhanger planned for Friday Sept 7, 2012 according to Soap Opera Network which is a great idea to get people to tune in on the new time slot starting on Monday Sept 10. Also the character of Tea will be returning for a short term appearance on GH

Florencia Lozano will once again be reprising her role of Téa Delgado on ABC’s “General Hospital,” only this time she’ll be popping up in Llanview.

Soap Opera Network has learned that while Lozano is back for an unknown number of episodes, the actress will once again appear on the drama series after an unexpected visitor pays her character a visit on the Friday, September 7 episode.

Lozano’s return is said to coincide with a major cliffhanger the soap has planned that will help entice viewers to tune in for the Monday, September 10 episode, which is when the soap kicks things off in its new timeslot – a slot that was previously held by “One Life to Live” up until it aired its final episode nearly nine months ago to the day.

“General Hospital” moves to 2:00 PM ET/1:00 PM PT/CT beginning Monday, September 10, on ABC. The show will not experience a timeslot shift on SOAPnet.

  • MBmomof3

David, you are correct that it was Victor who held Marty hostage during her amnesia and kept her from her son, etc. But at the time, the viewers believed the character to be Todd. It wasn’t until very recently that it was revealed that all of the years TSJ was believed to be either Walker Lawrence or Todd Manning, he was actually Todd’s twin brother, Victor. A brilliant twist IMO. I’m really glad that TSJ was not Todd and that RH was Todd all along. No offense to TSJ, he is a really good actor and played a twisted, angry character VERY well. I hope we see at least a glimpse of Victor as played by TSJ on GH.

Also, I LOOOOOVE the cliffhangers and the fact that GH is keeping things under wraps. I think it is critical to the shows success, especially when they move to the new timeslot.
