Wow Days according to NBC’s press release topped its ratings from the previous week. If Days continues this it will be interesting to see what happens when Days and GH go head to head in some areas in September.

  • TimsDale4ever

While watching Y&R on SOAPNET I’ve noticed the commercials for GH showing someone perhaps poisoning the water supply to kill the entire town. Is this to over the top? Are you GH fans loving or hating this story? It cracks me up when they show Tracy saying “We’re all gonna die”.

  • Richard

TimsDale, I liking elements of it. Some of the writing for it is uneven. I didn’t care for the special effects last week with them showing Olivia’s visions of the green water, etc. Too cheap looking for my taste.

The story idea is okay — some of the execution and the acting on some parts has been bad.

  • David

@MB i am loving the way GH is keeping things under wraps as well and giving some great cliffhangers. The show has been really exciting and was enjoying it all summer but am enjoying it even more the last few weeks

  • MBmomof3

TimsDale, I am liking the storyline for a couple of reasons 1)GH is known for having these big, all-inclusive “umbrella” storylines and I like how it will impact all the citizens of PC in some fashion and 2)I am enjoying the use of the characters and writing in this particular story. I don’t mind OTT storytelling in general, but that’s just me.

  • Chrisann

I’m right there with MBmom I am enjoying the storyline too. I wish though that they would at least mention Monica. Tracy mentioned Edward today saying he had fallen ill from the tainted water. I have always like the supernatural storylines that RC puts out. One of my favorite drop in characters on One Life was Delphina who could communicate with the dead and predict the future…..what a hoot.So I am hoping Olivia keeps having visions.

  • Richard

The biggest thing that I am not liking about the storyline so far is that they keep promoing like everyone is going to die or everyone is in danger. Unless they are hiding some big major death as the big cliffhanger what is the danger.

And if they do have some big death who is it going to be and what impact is it going to have. And will it be the right person that dies or some minor character like Ewan. Or will we have another veteran tossed aside with this story like Guza always did with wiping out the Quartermain family with his stunts.

What has worked over at Days is with this stunt they did get rid of some big characters and from reading there is excitement to it and danger with their disaster.

So far nothing really with this big disaster.

  • Kayla Rae

Jay, I think your insights into possible developing storylines involving Sonny/Will/T are right on the mark! What you shared makes a lot of sense and I can definitely see those stories unfolding in said ways. That will be very interesting to watch! I too have been feeling that T is a closet case and that he secretly has an attraction towards Sonny and/or Will.

It’ll be interesting viewing to be sure! Thanks for sharing!

  • Kayla Rae

Nobody can present a big disaster storyline like Days…they are the undisputed champions with such storylines!

  • JayTN

MBmomof3…the character that held Marty hostage and exploited her amnesia may have been Victor, but for all intense and purpose it was Todd. The whole Victor/Todd twist was probably created to explain the return of Roger Howarth to the role of Todd. When the whole Todd/Marty ‘kidnap’ storyline was playing out, the writers most likely had no idea that Todd was really his heretofore unknown twin brother.

In fact, I don’t believe that Victor Lord, Jr. was ever referred to or mentioned until 2011, when Howarth rejoined the show.

  • Chrisann

Jay, Regardless who they intended to be Martys kidnapper it ended up being Victor. I have no idea if they had intended to bring Todd aka Roger H back or not when the story was written.

Just saw the the Days thread. NBC is really promoting it. ABC needs to do the same for GH since in some areas they will compete in the same time slot.

Wow Richard you know how you say OLTL fans and GH fans are brutal when it comes to someone disagreeing with them? Well it looks like you can add Days fans to that list….. Looks like some are not happy with you on the other thread.

  • JayTN

Chrisann…my argument is that at the time of the Marty kidnapping story, it was Todd that was behind it, regardless of how the writers changed it after the fact. That storyline aired in 2008, three years before the revelation that Victor, Jr. had actually been Todd since 2003 when Trevor St. John assumed the role. In fact, Ron Carlivati was not even named head writer until 2007, while Josh Griffith is most likely the person who was head writer when St. John supposedly took over the role of Todd (it depends on how far ahead OLTL filmed…if not Griffith, then the credit goes to Lorraine Broderick and Chris Whitesell).

It would be highly unlikely that a storyline that unfolded in 2011 (Todd is really Victor, Jr.) was created as far back as 2003, especially since the head writing position went thru at least three complete changes during that time.

  • MBmomof3

JayTN, I agree with you and thought I made it clear in my post that in the viewers mind in 2008 it was Todd who was holding Marty and using her amnesia for his own advantage. Ultimately it was revealed that it was indeed Victor who did it, but not until 2011 when Roger Howarth returned as Todd. So technically, I agree with you, Richard, David & Chrisann.

Chrisann, I loved Delphina on OLTL too and hope GH keeps the storyline with Olivia having premonitions. I like how that has played out.

  • Richard

Jay, Was the ratings for this week the one with all but GAA in reruns?

I was trying to figure out why Berman has not released them this week. He usually posts those on Thursday but maybe they were not released yet.

  • Richard

Chrisann, That all started because I said I did not like the actress who plays Sami on the show. I just said she made me quit watching Biggest Loser because I didn’t like her as host. And I just was never tempted to watch Days because of that.

And then 2 of her biggest supporters attacked me for saying it.

Mine wasn’t even an attack to begin with — just my opinion on an actress. But they couldn’t handle it.

  • David

Regardless of who it was at the time, the bottom line is it would turn it was not Todd so since that was revealed, he cannot be held responsible for that based on the story. As for the rape he was reformed long before Ron C took over.

And as was stated before tons of other people on soaps have been “reformed rapists” so to try and portray that as Ron C is just an example of someone who wants to continue to make him look bad in my opinion!

As for the “Attacks on Richard” it is funny how he is always the victim. Whenever someone disagrees with him or points out his faults, they are immediately attacking him. Really sad!

  • Kayla Rae

I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. I happen to think that the actress who plays Sami on Days is perfect in that role…in fact, I cannot imagine anyone else being able to pull off Sami so superbly. That said, I respect Richard’s right to see things differently.

  • JayTN

Richard…the daytime ratings that are released this week – for the week of Aug. 20 – would include new episodes for both “The Chew” and “Good Afternoon America”. “The Talk” and “The View” aired repeat episodes.

This week (whose ratings will be released next Thursday/Friday) only GAA aired new episodes.

“The View” returns with new episodes on Tuesday (Sept. 4), while “The Talk” won’t return until a week later on Monday (Sept. 10). I also believe that “The Chew” will return with new episodes on Sept. 10 as well, so both “The Talk” and “The Chew” should still be in rerun mode next week (week of Sept. 3).

For the record, NBC and CBS will pre-empt their daytime line-ups on Labor Day Monday for Golf and Tennis coverage, respectively. GH will likely air a repeat episode on that day, as ABC’s schedule is not impacted by any pre-emptions.

  • Richard

MBMom and Jay, That is one reason I don’t like rewrites of history no matter how good the story is for that time. Soaps are a continuing process just like life. You watch and you grow with these characters. And personally for me when you rewrite the history of a character or even undo a death, it is just like it negates the time and energy and emotions you put into that story as a viewer. Again just my opinion and the way I feel about those type of stories. And I really hate it when the rewrite just doesn’t seem to fit the growth of a character or the true nature of the character. Just like with Rick Webber when he returned nothing fit with what viewers knew about the character when he was there. And with Holly, we watched her grow as a person from the one that arrived in Port Charles and make a total reformation. To watch her return and all that character growth gone and back to a con artist again. It just didn’t make sense.

Kayla Rae, You may be right about Sweeney as Sami. I have never seen her as Sami. All I can go by is her performance or hosting of Biggest Loser. That is all I know of her. And that was my point yesterday. That is all I know and for that reason I have a bad image of her and when I think of Days I think of her because she is in almost every promo I see. And I don’t like her so I don’t even get tempted to watch the show. And that was my point yesterday. But her fans didn’t like any kind of negative connotation toward her at all.

Jay, GH is airing a repeat on Monday. It is one of their more recent shows.

  • Kayla Rae

Hi Richard. Thanks for your response. I don’t really watch The Biggest Loser so I cannot comment on Sweeney’s performance on that show. However, on Days, she remains quite adept at emoting in a wide range of the spectrum in the part of Sami. She seems a perfect fit for the role. If you haven’t seen her perform much as Sami then I respectfully would suggest that you cannot really know what kind of an actress she is. Hosting a show such as Loser is a far cry from truly performing as an actress in a soap, wouldn’t you agree?

    Anyhoo, thanks for sharing.
