Deadline is reporting HBO’s True Blood and The Newsroom both had record viewership numbers for their finales last night. True Blood drew 5 million viewers for its season finale at 9 PM, down a touch from last year's 5.05 million viewers. For the combined two Sunday plays, the episode logged a season high 6.3 million total viewers.
The first season finale of The Newsroom drew 2.3 million viewers at 10PM, which is a new series high.

True Blood is for gays…..worst show on tv.
Game of Thrones is easily the best tv show of the decade
it was a great episode, glad Russel is dead, bill and sookie are done for good, so i think, now her and eric can be together.
surprised true blood ratings are so high, the quality has gone down since the third season, what a mess of a show

I am feel so sorry about you haters go watch some realy smart shows on CBS !
Loved True Blood last night

Yeah, but what else is there to watch on Sundays? I know a couple of people who hate the show, but just watch it out of habit and because there isn’t anything else on TV during the summer. (The same goes for The Newsroom.) They could literally put anything on in that time slot and quite a few people would watch it out of sheer boredom.
True Blood has a 73 on Metacritic and an 8.1 on IMDb. Game of Thrones had an 88 this past season and has a 9.4 on IMDb. Ratings do not speak to quality… The critics and viewers (not # of viewers) speak to quality. Jersey Shore was outperforming most cable shows for a while and had triple the viewers of great cable shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. An acclaimed show coming in second to crap shows with high ratings doesn’t invalidate the critic and viewer reception of the shows!! True Blood is trash regardless of how it performs in comparison to other HBO shows.

Well, you could always flip over to AMC at 9pm and watch Hell on Wheels instead. Or not. That show is even more of an incoherent mess than it was last season. Can’t wait to see what the ratings were like.
Anyway, True Blood is like junk food for the brain – great show to chill out to. Alexander Skarsgård is a big plus as well.
Not sure how people could hate Game of Thrones, or why this show was even brought on up this topic about ‘True Blood, and ‘The Newsroom’. However one things for sure, Game of Thrones is a monster and will likely go on for many years to come, the only thing that will ever stop this show is if they catch up the books too soon and are left with nothing to adapt. But I doubt that will happen anyway.
This show is like a license to print money, arguing about Nielsen numbers is pointless. These aren’t actual viewers, they are numbers generated from the 19600 ish households that are tracked in America.
Just the shows by other means. If you want more credibility with your statements.
*Judge the show
Also congrats to The Newsroom, decent show. Renewal was never in doubt, wherever or not it’l get a third season is.
The season finale of The Newsroom was unbelievable!! Far and away the best show on television!
I’m predicting a Breaking Bad series high next week, without competition from HBO.
Finally Newsroom got it right:
Tea Party is true American Taliban
Timeless, priceless, right on time
@Dennis – What a stupid comment.
