THE PRICE IS RIGHT, the longest-running game show in television history, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special episode on Tuesday, Sept. 4 (11:00 AM-12:00 Noon, ET; 10:00-11:00 AM, PT), exactly 40 years after its debut on Sept. 4, 1972.

To celebrate the milestone, the show welcomes back contestants from throughout its 40-year run, including fan favorites who provided some of the best laughs, the most animated “come on downs,” and even the contestant who won the show’s first-ever showcase, coincidentally playing the same pricing game he won in 1972.  Fans will also be treated to classic clips throughout the hour.

If possible, it would be neat if Bob Barker made an appearance as well.

  • TimsDale4ever

Agree Sam, and the former models as well. On another note, Carey doesn’t fit this show even though I like him. He so dull and flat. No humor – and he’s a comedian. Odd….

  • BJG

WOW, TimsDale4ever…I thought I was the only person that believed Drew was a boring host!! I completely agree, I gave him like 2 months when he debuted but stopped watching completely (and I used to record it while I was at work with Bob hosting.)

I tune in about once a month to see if Drew has gotten anymore interesting but no such luck, still boring!!! TPIR needs a new host…ASAP!!!

  • Steve

I watched the show whenever I was home from school or work from the time I was a little kid, up through my 40’s. Don’t ask me why, I don’t understand it myself.

Then Bob Barker left. I watched the first episode with Drew Carey, and have never watched it again.

  • Joseph

Drew Carey has come a long way in the years he’s hosted “Price Is Right”.

In my opinion, he’s now one of the best game show hosts in the business.

And “Price” is a difficult show to do. Not every good game show host(ess) can do a show like “Price”.

  • Joseph

Will this episode be rebroadcast in prime time, much like Bob Barker’s last episode was??

  • BOB

BOB BARKER WHERE ARE YOU? COME ON DOWN THIS TUES! THE SHOW ISN’T THE SAME WITHOUT YOU AS THE OTHERS HAVE SAID BUT DREW CAREY OWNS A MLS SOCCER TEAM SO I CAN’T DISLIKE HIM THAT MUCH. LOL

  • jill erickson

Bob Barker started the show and deserves to be a big part of this 40 year milestone!

  • Joel

I stopped watching the Price is Right the day Bob retired, If CBS was smart they would have canceled the show it just isn’t the same and Drew doesn’t have the excitement or the knack Bob had.

It was a damn shame that Bob Parker was excluded from the 40th anniversary special. Hell, he started this version back in 1972. CBS was done some mean things over the years, like canceling Red Skelton after 19 years, leaving NBC to pick up the 20th and last season.
