  • Bethany

GH is better than it has been in years! All the other soaps are a BIG yawn fest for me. If you have tuned out of GH, NOW is the time to tune back in. The show is so fast-paced, its hard to keep up! It reminds me of GH in its heyday. Now THAT is saying something.

  • Ridoku

    @ Bethany

GH is definitely a fast-paced soap and that might be an asset to the show as time goes on and it settles into its new timeslot. Their roster is a lot deeper than it was in recent years also where they can lose a key member like Steve Burton and not really lose too much from it.

I’m not going to judge if one of the soaps are better than the others because all four of these soaps seem to peak in and out. I’ll say DAYS is the best right now but B&B is the most consistent. Y&R had a good little run earlier in the summer but the death of Ricky and loss of Daisy is starting to haunt the show. Sharon’s new character is unwatchable. Hopefully the new writing gets Y&R back to its heyday.

  • chris

i think that all my children and general hospital should have gotten cancelled and not one life to live because oltl was the only soap ganing viewers and it was under budget.

  • Kayla Rae

I am with you, Diana, regarding GH’s boring promo using Sonny and the whole tired mobster thing. I too have found GH too difficult to sit through. I will definitely be watching Days over GH when they go up against one another. Days remains my all-time fave and they are doing so great!!! Go Days!!!

  • Kayla Rae

I agree, Ridoku, Days is rockin’ the house now! Sorry, Bethany, but GH could hardly be less appealing…hence, their dismal ratings.

  • Kayla Rae

You’re absolutely right, Richard, that GH cannot use the excuse of not having a good lead-in. You’re on target reminding that Days hasn’t had a good lead-in for a lot longer than GH, yet is kicking GH’s butt.

    Go Days!!!

  • Tammy Armstrong

I love OLTL and AMC and now have grown to love GH. But I am a working person that ends up watching GH the day after. I’m sure like so many other people. Since we watch one day later we don’t get to be counted? That is so not right. GH is the only soap I watch. You know the numbers should be better than that. And who says that they should only be counting ages 18 to 49> That is just plain stupid!! There are a lot of us that are 50 and over that watch it to. So we don’t count? Come on Nelson get it together better than what you are doing now!!

  • Richard

Tammy, If you will look at the top and at the link over at SON — it says that these are for Live plus 1. If you watch a day later than yes you are counted in these ratings. It is those people who watch live or the next day. The season to date ratings even includes those that watch up to 7 days later.

But you still have to be a Nielsen household to count.

And all viewers of any age are counted. It is just that advertisers use the 18-49 rating to determine how much they will pay to advertise on that show. So it is that demo that ultimately sets the budget for the show since the advertising is where they make their money.

All viewers count to the network but they just have to have those 18-49 female viewers to get the money they need from advertisers. They have to pay the bills.

  • taggert

In watching those two videos Jaker posted on the first page its like two totally different soaps when it comes to GH and B&B. One seems to be more action-packed and the other is more traditional with all of the romance stuff. Maybe DAYS and Y&R just plays in the middle.

  • deb

I never miss GH haven’t in over 30 years I love it! Miss One Life to Live hate ABC for doin that by the way there are too many talk shows DNA testing etc give it up #GH4ever

  • Lynda W.

All I have to say is the ratings must be wrong in regards to GH! All of the groups on Facebook all say they are watching. And everyone I know is watching, too. ABC is most likely paying off someone to say the ratings are low, as they have made it known they want to KILL the soaps! They have already killed AMC & OLTL. They have made it known that they would rather put on cheaply produced talk/cooking/reality shows, than the more expensive scripted soaps. It’s all about money to ABC! It’s all about saving money that the “SUITS” can put in their pockets! GH is on fire right now! It’s better than it’s been in quite awhile! There is no way that the ratings are this low! NO WAY!

  • jim

I have to agree with Diana. The whole Sonny and mob theme is so tired. They are not the Sopranos. I pretty much stopped watching when they made that story front and center. I cannot stand Sonny or the entire storyline featuring the mobsters.

  • Melissa

So happy about days,I don’t watch any of the other three.keep it up dool you rock.

  • JayTN

No offense, but the argument “…everyone I know is watching…so the ratings must be wrong” is one of the funniest I have heard in quiet some time. There are over 300 million people in the United States…how many of those 300 million+ does the average person know? As has already been pointed out, unless you are being measured by Nielsen, it doesn’t care if every single person you know is really watching GH…they are not being counted. It would be impossible for Nielsen to literally count every person in the country.

Also, ABC doesn’t have to “pay off someone to say the ratings are low”. ABC can cancel GH anytime it wants and doesn’t really owe anyone an explanation. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but sometimes the truth hurts. ABC and the other networks are not running charities and do not have to keep a particular show on the air because a particular person loves it. Remember that NBC canceled one of their highest rated drama series in May (“Harry’s Law”), so high overall viewers don’t really mean anything to the networks. As Richard pointed out, the 18-49 demographic is what pays the bills. Why should ABC, or any network, be chastised for wanting to make as much money as possible? These networks are businesses after all. The only kind of company that doesn’t make money is one that is out of business.

I actually enjoy the oltl characters on gh. todd is actually one of my fav characters of all time. I just wish brenda would come back to gh for sonny. I just dont like and never have like kate regardless of the actress. Its great to have the jax brothers back but i dont like the storyline but jerry and todd r so great i will watch anyway. I will miss jason and i had always hope that they would have brought keisha back for him although i did enjoy him with robin and sam not liz. But back in the day jason and keisha was a cute couple. I also wish that kate, kristina, trey and his father leave town and they keep jax and jerry on contract

GH’s ratings will eventually get to where they need to be which is in that OLTL range. It’s gonna take some serious time because they basically had to rebuild that house from scratch. Frankie V. and Ron C. did the same exact thing to OLTL and it took that show 4 years to get where they needed to be in the ratings.

In other words it takes time to get ratings that high.

  • Kata

Who cares what time slot a show is on… there are DVRs. Have watched GH for 20+ years, and the past 10 years… never watched it when it aired. Can’t stand all the commercials and most often I work. As for the story lines… weak with all the blending of characters from OLTL. Never watched that show. Used to watch Days 20 years ago… but I’ll take stupid mob story lines over somebody in need of exorcism any day.

  • Arica

Gh is my favorite show I DVR it because I work 3-11 but I watched channel 5 soaps since I been 9…with my grandma…they already stopped OLTL for a show that didn’t last a whole season and I’m worried about this I watch Y&R now but don’t want anything to happen to the last tie to the happiest times…there’s so much going on on GH lol disappointing news :(

  • CarShark

    @Brad:

    “9am Ricki Lake
    10am Jeff Probst
    11am The View
12pm Rachel Ray (not sure why her show is still around)
    1pm The View
    2pm General Hospital
    3pm Anderson LIVE
    4pm Katie
    5pm Local News”

Wow. That’s a lot of talk on one network. The Alphabet’s really betting the farm on this.

Its because gh has those oltl characters. The favorite couples are separating because of those characters and the new writing team has made it so bad that favorite actors like Steve B. are leaving the show. Its the dumbest storylines right now. Robin is supposed to be dead it’s stupid to bring her back after those terrific final episodes of robin. This Johnny thing of hiding many truths is lasting too long. Sam should have her baby and should be with Jason. The one life to live cast and crew need to leave gh because they are making the bevolved classic soap lose many of its viewers like me.
