Richard, When I quit watching GH it was when I was working full time and had small children so I had to chose which daytime dramas to tape and watch when I had time. OLTL and All My Children were the ones I chose. I NEVER got mad at GH or its writers or producers. If I would have wanted to veg forever in front of the TV and ignore my family my housework and my life I would have taped them all.So before you judge me ask me why instead of assuming.

Sorry righton22 the article lost credence when I read ravenbeauty’s name attached to it. She doesn’t exactly have the best reputation among many online fans and sites. Some won’t even use her as a source I am told.

Those things are the future of soaps and TV but for now they hold little effect. It is just like the guy who has been posting some on here and on other sites who is saying that he works for Days and that Days is working to change Nielsen’s way of looking at things such as making them pay more attention to the over 50. CBS has been trying that for years. If they are not going to change it for one network they aren’t going to change it for one show.

Besides it is not up to Nielsen anyway, it is up to advertisers. And it is going to be a long fight to get them to change the way they look at things. They have been putting so much credence in the 18-49 live viewing for so long. It took them several years to even consider looking at the 7 day DVR viewing.

Even online still has a long way to go. Prospect Park found that out. Without a TV tie in they just couldn’t get the backing they needed to put the shows online. Advertisers still don’t have enough faith in online ads working. In time they will but right now it just doesn’t.

As to GH holding steady, I don’t think GH is ever going to move off that 1.8 in HH and .9 in 18-49. Even with fluctuations in both viewers they have been there for months now. They just can’t get a larger percentage of those households again.

  • Richard

I wasn’t judging you — no more than you were judging me with your comment about fans not liking me last week. So if I was judging you then you were judging me but you say you never do that.

I simply was asking you why you quit. You have never said — just said you did.

But my point is still the same people did quit last year over new characters — many of them to have to do with the Brenda story and the Lucky story. They hated them and complained. So why are some of you so shocked that fans all of a sudden now don’t like new characters. People asked for changes and Ron C. hasn’t really changed anything. For 2 months now the character with the most episodes under him have been new characters. July was Todd and August was Ewin.

It is just like I read a few times yesterday on other boards where people were talking about what they don’t like. Many of them said they wanted Jason/Sonny/Carly to be lessened but they didn’t ask for new characters they didn’t know to come in and take their place. And that is in effect what happened.

I just don’t get and hate when a OLTL fan makes the statement like you did that GH fans shouldn’t get mad or that you can’t understand why GH fans would get mad. It is as if you think we have no right to get mad. We love/loved and have been faithful to our show just like you and others were faithful to OLTL or AMC. And we definitely weren’t the ones going around and saying that your show should have been cancelled to save ours. Just like the person above who said that GH should have been cancelled and OLTL saved.

I don’t see how people don’t think that GH fans should want GH to be about GH. That is the show we watched and have been faithful to. The better question is why do fans think we don’t have a right to expect that?

I can bet you as in the scenario above there would have been many a OLTL fan who would have thrown many a hissy fit if Sonny and Jason had shown up on OLTL.

  • WMD

Richard…those Feb. 2011 numbers made me really depressed. lol…GH solo #2? What happened that week? Anyone remember? (I wasn’t watching then)

  • Justin121

    B&B is the Best.

  • Chrisann

Hmmm Richard….sorry you are sensitve. I was just making an observation about Days fans not you.I didn’t think the way they responded to you was justified. But again you are assuming I was slamming you. You really need to stop being so sensitive. Which is weird because you aren’t sensitive when you respond to someone you disagree with. And to jump on someone when they say The Spew when you call Ron C Cartoonie is ironic since you call those that say The Spew “childish” Maybe you are just having a bad day…week…year… Anyhow regardless I will keep watching GH and the rest of the soaps as long as I enjoy them and they are still on…. no matter what anyone elses opinion of them is.

Thank you for explaining the time change for gh to me. I wish ABC could have worked out a deal where they could have left gh alone. Since ABC is moving gh it will be days for me.

  • Richard

Chrisann, It didn’t bother me what you said. I was just saying that if what I said to you was judging then what you said to me last week was judging to. I didn’t take offense at what you said at all. I just read it and explained what happened. I thought it was stupid and didn’t even see anything that I said about Sweeney that was that bad.

My response to you was just that you implied I was judging you when all I was doing and in a to the point way was that I asked you why you quit because you never said why.

And it was also a general statement across the board that so many said they quit for this reason or another, but now are getting mad because people are quitting. Its as if their reasons were okay but anyone elses isn’t okay.

I am glad you enjoy GH. I enjoy little bits here and there but I will tell you that there is not one new character that came in the last 2 years that I enjoy at all — maybe Sean a little bit but that was more under Guza/Wolfe than under Ron C. I hate Ewin, Todd, STarr, John, Blair, TJ, Tea, that hooker woman (I think her name is Darlene), her boyfriend, Joe Jr., Trey — not any of them has added anything good to the show at all. IMO. And I liked Kate under Guza but I hate her under Ron C. I skip alot of her stuff on You Tube or just walk out of the room to do other things.

I like Sean and Alexis together but just as soon as you start liking them then he is off for awhile again. It’s just hard to get behind them as a couple when they are hardly ever on together.

The only thing that I consistently enjoy under Ron C. is Lulu and Dante. He seems to get them better than anything else. And they work together under him — under Wolfe they didn’t.

The rest of the stuff is hit and miss.

  • Richard

WMD, I was trying to think too. This is what I found at Soap Central:

Carly unwittingly foiled Shawn’s plans to kidnap Brenda. Brenda refused to leave town when Carly threatened to reveal that Brenda and Dante had a child together. Brenda stopped the wedding to tell Sonny about Carly’s plans. Sonny felt betrayed by Brenda and Dante’s affair until Dante clarified that they had never slept together. Dante revealed that he had merely claimed to be the father of Brenda’s baby to keep the baby safe from the father’s family. Sonny quickly forgave Brenda for not telling him about the baby and then asked her to marry him. Moments later, Sonny and Brenda were married. Lulu was hurt that Dante had kept another secret from her. Shawn agreed to switch sides to help Jason capture the Balkan. Jason and Shawn arranged for a meeting with Theo at the Pine Barrens, but the Balkan’s men ambushed them shortly after their arrival. Theo began to question Suzanne’s loyalty when he realized that she hadn’t told him about their grandchild. Suzanne claimed that she hadn’t wanted to add to Theo’s grief after losing Aleksander. Jax accepted that his marriage to Carly was over for good. Carly found an injured Shawn lying in the middle of the road, so she took him back to her house to treat his gunshot wound. Kristina confided to Ethan that she planned to marry him one day. Theo kidnapped Sam. Brenda entered the limousine as she and Sonny prepared to leave for their honeymoon. Sonny exchanged a few words with Luke and then turned to join his bride in the limousine. Sonny was horrified as the limousine suddenly exploded. Later, paramedics pulled out a body. Sonny and Jason were shocked to realize that the woman in the limousine was Sam.

GH and DOOl will come on the same time in Texas. Not sure why ABC did that unless it was to get rid of their last soap. So Sad our times are changing and not for the better.

I believe DAYS airs at 1pm no matter where you live except in a few markets where I know it airs at 12pm and 2pm but that’s not that many markets, its mainly 1pm.

I noticed that GH is moving to 1pm in a majority of the Central and Pacific time zone markets. So fans in those markets who watch both shows are going to have to decide to watch DAYS or GH live.

It’ll be similar to the DAYS and OLTL battles or DAYS and AMC battles in the East.

  • JayTN

Richard/Chrisann/others…not to re-open any old ‘wounds’, but I will never understand why people get all riled up about a TV show, such as the Alison Sweeney defenders in that NBC press release post. I don’t know Mrs. Sweeney personally, although I’m sure she’s a perfectly nice person. I don’t happen to have a problem with either her performance on “Days” or her hosting gig on “Biggest Loser”, but it just seems silly to ‘defend someone’s honor’, as these ‘fans’ seem to be doing.

Like when people get upset at people not liking GH. At the end of the day, unless you are a Nielsen household, it doesn’t really matter if you watch it or not. I don’t think ABC is going to cancel GH because one particular person did not tune in. It seems like people have lost the art of disagreeing without being disagreeable. For the most part, I try to stay away from talking about GH’s storylines for that very reason. I can usually talk about Y&R, B&B, or “Days” and carry on civil discussions, but for some reason GH seems to elicit more passion from its ‘fans’.

For what its worth, I know that a lot (not all, but it seems like a majority) of OLTL fans had a similar mindset. I don’t know what that means…if these hyped up GH fans are old OLTL fans, a defense mechanism for fans afraid GH is next on the chopping block, or whatever…but I don’t recall all the GH polarization before AMC/OLTL were canceled.

  • Stephen Judson

I still will be able to watch an half an hour of Y&R and Days. And all of B&B and GH. So I’m happy.

Why are people being badgered for having an opinion on GH. Let them have their opinion.

  • Stacy

I live in Texas and have to decide between days and gh. After the news that Steve Burton is leaving gh and days being great lately i have decided to watch days. If gh would have changed times last Sept i probably would have gone with gh.

  • Charlie Sheen

November’s ratings are going to be interesting this year because it’ll be interesting to see if the soaps rise or not or do better year to year like they’ve been doing this summer.

I’m wondering also if GH will catch DAYS for third place or if DAYS will keep its spot thanks to this new revelation from the DAYSaster event after the Olympics.

GH is pulling out a lot of stops and I think they will be close to 3 million because of that stunt their pulling for the new timeslot with the outdoor scenes and Steve Burton leaving.

  • Pinkle

It’s going to be a very important fall for both Days and GH!!!!

The thing Days needs to do now is HOLD ON. They need to consistently trend upward in the ratings throughout the fall. If they do that, they should be fine.

GH needs to start gaining viewers. This is not good for them, because they needed to take as many viewers as possible to 2pm as they can. GH is going to actually have network competition with The Talk, and in some places, Days of our Lives. GH CANNOT bank on people switching from The Talk and Days to GH. Both of these shows’ ratings have gone up this year, and they are developing larger audiences. Remember, GH can still get cancelled, GAA doesn’t have to be its replacement.

Neither Days nor GH can afford a loss at this point, especially a major loss in the 18-49 demographic.

Hopefully, we will be able to see how GH compares to OLTL in that timeslot, and see which show was stronger.

  • Richard

GH is moving everywhere. People are saying that promo for the new timeslot change is airing even on the West Coast.

As I said early some over at SON board are saying that even in California they will now have to choose between Days and GH.

It is probably still only a fraction of the affiliate areas, but it is more widespread than I ever imagined from hearing people mention it on boards.

  • James

GH at 2.4 is decent. Needs to start going up. needs a weekly 2.5-2.7, then 2.7-3.0.

  • Richard

Jay, Excellent points again. I have always been an opionated person esp. about something I like. I probably should be more like you in some things esp. regarding discussing GH stories, but I don’t watch any of the other soaps so I don’t have the full feelings toward them as I do GH. Or even Edge of Night when it was on.

I do wish GH discussion was like it used to be. Something has changed with it in the last year. Before even the announcement with the OLTL fans coming over it was hard to discuss the show’s stories even then as it always seemed after the cancellations were announced that we were constantly interrupted with reminders that our show was the one that should have been cancelled. You still get that but you get the other now too.

Used to if a story was bad you could say it and you discussed the story. Now it always reverts back to if you don’t like the story then you end up getting into the thing that then you don’t like the OLTL characters or the thing about Ron C. and Frank V.

I hardly ever post anywhere but here. But the other day I did post on another board and I mentioned them and said I didn’t see the greatness that some see. I was told that I just didn’t like them because they were gay. We weren’t even discussing that but now since I don’t like their writing then I am a homophobe. Some take their defense of them way too far — just like you said with actors or actresses.

    It gets ridiculous at times.

There are not many shows that I am passionate about — it is a very rare occurrance for me. That is primetime or daytime. GH just has always happened to be one of those. I have tried to quit so many times in the last few months, but I keep getting drawn back even though I don’t like much of the show anymore.

  • Columbo 126

It looks like all of the Western part of the country will have to decide between DAYS and GH.

Competition can only help DAYS and GH stay on their A-game. These two soaps have a tendency of writing stupid stuff at times and if they can stay hot in their quality like they are now then that’ll be great for all soap viewers to support them.
