Continuing with the night-by-night look at the fall 2012 schedule, we move to Friday night.  Friday is sometimes scoffed at as a wasteland night when nobody watches television. Less people watch television on Friday, but only around 15% less than the typical Thursday. That still leaves a lot of people, but most of them are usually watching something other than the English broadcast networks.

This Fall the night will initially include 8 hours of scripted television (same as last Fall) on the broadcast nets with one new scripted series. Last Man Standing and Malibu Country are scheduled to move into the ABC 8pm slot in November, upping the scripted total to 9 hours and two new shows.

The new series are CBS's Made In Jersey at 9pm and later ABC's Malibu Country at 8:30pm. Perhaps CBS learned their lesson with A Gifted Man that premiering a new drama on Friday at 8pm isn't such a good idea.

Fringe being in its final season, and the move of Supernatural to Wednesday will likely dampen interest around here on Saturday mornings in the Fall, but we may make up for a little bit of the traffic from anxious Community fans, and maybe a handful of Touch fans. A potential traffic windfall for us would be if Grimm ratings stumble early, it could become the next traffic Fringe or Chuck.

If you're looking for other nights of the week, be patient.  We'll post one per day through next Wednesday and then you'll have them all.  You can find them (including Thursday night) here.

Take a trip down memory lane with last season's 2011-12's Friday night schedule:

  • Hadesa

I might try Made In Jersey. I assume Cult will air between ANTM cycles don’t expect it to do well. I’ve seen 20 minutes of the pilot episode and it was awful. I’m predicting 0.4’s for the CW on Fridays.

  • CrimTV

It would be interesting to know if Nikita gains a lot of traffic on Fridays too. I know Fringe’s final season and SPN moving are going to stop as much interest, but on Saturdays and sometimes other days I see many comments regarding Nikita

  • RG-X

    This nite will be interesting.

My prediction though – last year for:

    CSI NY
GRIMM & of coarse the already gon FRINGE.

FOX may be committed to Kiefer & NBC to GRIMM…so there is a good chance they will survive – but if they do – it won’t full seasons.

so this will be hard – but next season Friday nites will be shaken up at least with 3-4 new shows moving or appearing for the first time on Friday nites next year Nites

  • Tom

The biggest question is if half these shows ever air on a Friday – spackle as far as the eye can see.

    1) How long does MIJ last? Feb sweeps and out?

    2) If they air there, how low do those NBC comedies go? 1.2-ish?

Personal Disclaimer: I will eventually watch Fringe, mostly through inertia (why quit when you’re 88/101 the way there). I will watch New Community, and think it won’t be nearly as bad as some think, even if it won’t be as good as it was.

  • Old Man

Made in Jersey looks like a good fit in lineup & CBS May Be able to pull it off

    Go Grimm!!

  • Concerned Citizen

    Nothing else.

  • Gustavo

Must watch:Blue Bloods and Whitney:Although in November:The last man standing.I will give a try in November to :Malibu County.

  • Raykov

Community & Fringe for me. Happy Fringe is ending and hoping for Community to get the back-episode order and another season.

  • Ram510

I’ll be watching Nikita, Community and Blue Bloods. I’ll have to DVR Grimm

  • rob60990

I’ve heard nothing but terrible things about Made in Jersey and the show looks terrible. It will probably last as long as a Gifted Man, maybe shorter.

Will be watching Shark Tank & What Would You Do.

    Fridays are tough

    ABC & NBC

CBS will have a slight lead but MIJ will fail
ABC & NBC will be a very close 2nd/3rd and may even challenge CBS for the lead
FOX is dead on this night…slightly higher then CW levels
    CW will do okay…just okay

  • MattM

I’m one of the few that actually liked Whitney last season. They lost an important character but I’ll still give it a DVR. Community can finally go down in flames while a bunch of geeks complain about it having a sh*tty lead in even though that lead in will pull a higher number. Bank on it.

  • Richard

Nikita!– yes it’s a staple part of fall !

  • Julie

DVR both Fringe and Grimm and at 9pm watch whichever one I’m more excited about that week, then watch the other at 10pm.
Probably watch Touch but only because I absolutely adore Keifer….if the show doesn’t grab me more than it did last year, even Keifer won’t help keep me interested.

  • Potato

    @Ryan Schwartz– My thoughts exactly

  • Ozone

    Who are you guys kidding?

It’s all about Whitney, Nikita, and Reba on this night. If it weren’t for these shows nobody would care about Fridays.

  • Oliver

I see Whitney being moved before it premieres, likely to Wednesday after AP or GWT bombs.

I doubt Community gets any such luck, although either UAN or both Wednesday comedies quickly bombing might force NBC’s hand. Will be interesting to see just how badly Community does on Friday.

  • USAmerica1st

    Fringe all the way!

  • Nick

I will be watching Last Man Standing, Malibu Country, Kitchen Nightmares, Touch & Hell’s Kitchen (midseason). Might check out MIJ. I gave up on Whitney last year. It was funny but had a terrible supporting cast.
