Continuing with the night-by-night look at the fall 2012 schedule, we move to Friday night.  Friday is sometimes scoffed at as a wasteland night when nobody watches television. Less people watch television on Friday, but only around 15% less than the typical Thursday. That still leaves a lot of people, but most of them are usually watching something other than the English broadcast networks.

This Fall the night will initially include 8 hours of scripted television (same as last Fall) on the broadcast nets with one new scripted series. Last Man Standing and Malibu Country are scheduled to move into the ABC 8pm slot in November, upping the scripted total to 9 hours and two new shows.

The new series are CBS's Made In Jersey at 9pm and later ABC's Malibu Country at 8:30pm. Perhaps CBS learned their lesson with A Gifted Man that premiering a new drama on Friday at 8pm isn't such a good idea.

Fringe being in its final season, and the move of Supernatural to Wednesday will likely dampen interest around here on Saturday mornings in the Fall, but we may make up for a little bit of the traffic from anxious Community fans, and maybe a handful of Touch fans. A potential traffic windfall for us would be if Grimm ratings stumble early, it could become the next traffic Fringe or Chuck.

If you're looking for other nights of the week, be patient.  We'll post one per day through next Wednesday and then you'll have them all.  You can find them (including Thursday night) here.

Take a trip down memory lane with last season's 2011-12's Friday night schedule:

  • Kevin

Must watch: Touch and the final season of FRINGE. On Demand: Community. Shows to skip on Fridays: Whitney and Made in Jersey. Hope the ninth season of CSI: NY may end up being its last.

  • Raf

    For Nikita i hope a 0.6/0.5 like last year… but i’m worried.
Is there any hope, that if this year the ratings will be poorer, CW will renew it anyway because of syndacation?

  • davie

    Community, Fringe and Nikita

  • Flame

Last Man Standing and Malibu Country for me

  • RyanCanada

ill be watching GRIMM and WHITNEY thats it,

  • Tristan

Raf its basically a guarantee it will be renewed so it can get to syndication numbers.

  • capslocke

    Whitney- 1.3
    Community- 1.4
    Grimm- 1.5
    Dateline- 1.4

    Shark Tank- 1.6
    WWYD?.- 1.5
    20/ 20- 1.5

    CSI: NY- 1.5
    Made In Jersey- 1.3
    Blue Bloods- 1.7

    Touch- 1.4
    Fringe- 1.2

  • capslocke

    ANTM- 0.5
    Nikita- 0.4

  • Dan S

The 9pm hour will be busy with Fringe, Grimm & Nikita. I’ll continue watching CSI NY & BB but predict MIJ will bomb out by Thanksgiving

  • Networkman

I don’t get why CSI:NY is getting a 19 episode order again? Give it a full 22 episodes, announce this is the last season and be done with it. Isn’t the reason why it was brought back was to get as many episodes as possible for syndication? I really feel Made in Jersey will be a flop. So either Undercover Boss will be back on Friday or Golden Boy will air there. Golden Boy seems like it will be a burn off show similar to NYC 22.

Alot of shows airing on Friday night won’t premiere until late October and early November. I actually think Last Man Standing & Malibu Country will be moved to a different night. Anyways, I’m really looking forward to watching Community. And Blue Bloods has the opportunity to really breakout this season. I like the direction the show is suppose to be taking with its guest stars. Also will give Touch, Fringe and Nikita a view.

  • Networkman

I wonder if CBS will move up the 2nd season premiere date of Unforgettable from Summer to midseason in January. I would love to see how that show will perform airing after CSI:NY. That would be a great lineup.

    8pm CSI:NY
    9pm Unforgettable
    10pm Blue Bloods

And then Undercover Boss could go to Sunday @8pm in between the Amazing Race editions. I still feel this show is compatible with 60 Minutes and Good Wife.

    @Networkman
And then Undercover Boss could go to Sunday @8pm in between the Amazing Race editions

Between the Survivor finale, repeats during the holidays, a late Sunday playoff game, the AFC Championship, the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards, CBS has a total of two Sunday 8pm timeslots to fill – which will be opposite the Pro Bowl and, most likely, the Golden Globe Awards.

  • John Fischer

I’m confused. I thought Kitchen Nightmares was renewed and was supposed to air its new season on Fox on Fridays at 8:00 p.m.

When is Kitchen Nightmares scheduled to air?

  • Ultima

    @John Fischer
When is Kitchen Nightmares scheduled to air?

New episodes of KN the first three weeks of the season, Fridays at 8; after that, it will be back as a midseason replacement – how quickly depends on how well Touch does.

  • roy G.

    Shark tank=)

  • Rebecca

This household will record Grimm since Fridays are usually dvd nights and we both watch Grimm. Hulu will see action from me since I’ll keep up with Touch (at least for a little while), Community, LMS…I’ll check out Malibu Country (never watched Reba’s old show) and Whitney when I’m out of other stuff to watch (like last season…it was a leftover show as filler, like The Exes).
