Continuing our night-by-night look at the Fall 2012 Fall TV schedule, we move to Sunday.  The only changes on the night are two ABC shows, and one CBS show, but only one of those shows are new.  Desperate Housewives, long an ABC tentpole is gone, and hopeful sophomore Revenge takes its place at 9pm, followed by the only new show of the night, 666 Park Avenue.

Last spring there was some doubt about the NFL season, but there's no doubt this year. Sunday Night Football will, of course, dominate the night's ratings. ABC won't top football, but it may well top the night after football season.

Will The Good Wife finally be sold into syndication? Considering the tenacity of Les Moonves' salespeople, I'm going with yes, but it hasn't been an easy sell. The Mentalist takes the place of canceled CSI: Miami at 1opm. The Mentalist will have 116+ episodes at the end of next season (its 5th), and isn't owned by CBS. Next spring will be an interesting time for fans worried about the show's future.

No new shows for Fox's Sunday animation line up next season. The Cleveland Show will join the night at 7:30 after football season.

Take a trip down memory lane with last season's 2011's Sunday Fall schedule:

Bill, Ashley Gable former Exec Producer for The Mentalist tweeted that TM received a two year renewal in May carrying them through the 6th season. I don’t believe CBS wants that show to be shopped around and it is WB’s #1 exported series.

  • joss

    @Phil

DEXTER & Revenge bitches! I can’t understand why some poeple loves OUAT so much. It’s quite boring.

I can not understand why they shouldnt ..its a great show with grreat writers and amazing cast

  • Julie

OUAT at 7pm ET (from my Canadian CTV network feed from Halifax, if they do the same as they did last season).
    Then Amazing Race at 8pm.
9pm/10pm will be all about Dexter and Walking Dead!!!!!!!

I will probably DVR 666 Park Avenue, the premise intrigues me.

  • Dan S

So what is CBS going to do now that the double-header NFL games won’t kick off until 4:25? That guarantees the games won’t be over until 7:30 or 8:00. Are they going to push “The Mentalist” past 11:00 when no one will stay up and watch it? Why do they schedule four one hour shows when they KNOW they will only have three hours to show them? CBS is stupid.

  • Kevin

Must watch: Amazing Race, Good Wife and Mentalist. On Demand: Dexter & Homeland. I’ll won’t wait until the new season of Mad Men begins.

  • Holly

    @Pfw51,

So what is CBS going to do now that the double-header NFL games won’t kick off until 4:25?

The same thing they’ve always done: delay their line-up. If The Mentalist gets pushed to after 11 (only ever happened once for Miami), they run a rerun on the west coast and push the episode to the next week.

CBS is far less concerned about the delays than the posters here and does not seem inclined to make any changes.

Boring night, I’ll be missing my Desperate Housewives! I’ll watch Simpsons and Family Guy, but not live I’ll wait for the DVD to come out.

Disappointed ABC didn’t pick up Americana or Devious Maids! Would have slotted in beautifully, but oh well.

  • Networkman

My TV will be on and tuned into ABC the entire night. I agree that it is the best consecutive 3 hours of dramatic TV one can find anywhere. 666 Park Ave being slotted at 10pm should be really dark and end the night on a high note with performances from Terry O’Quinn.

I do feel that with all the guest stars coming to The Good Wife that it will remain consistent. It really shared an audience with Desperate Housewives. But now that Desperate is gone it may gain back some of those viewers who left. If The Good Wife is granted a season 5, I can see CBS moving it to Friday night after Made in Jersey bombs and CSI:NY ends. The Good Wife will bring in a respectable amount of viewers, but may garner a low demo rating which would be more suitable for Friday.

  • Ultima

    Networks-
    NBC: 8.5
    ABC: 3.0
    Fox: 2.8
    CBS: 2.0

I assume that’s just for the fall with NBC that high. In that case, you’re significantly underestimating FOX; they should average a 4.0 or so in the fall due to NFL doubleheaders running into primetime and postseason baseball.

  • Masterbreel

Why does Sunday prime time start at 7 while midweek primetime starts at 8?

  • Michael

Sunday is now the best night of TV!
Starts with OUaT, then the 9-8ct hour has Revenge, Dexter, & The Walking Dead, and ends with 666 & Homeland. My onDemand is going to be working overtime on Monday afternoon.

  • TomSFBay

    AFV – 1.7
    OUAT – 3.0
    Revenge – 2.7
    666 Park – 2.2

    60 Minutes – 1.4
    Amazing Race – 2.6
    Good Wife – 1.9
    Mentalist – 2.0

    Football Night – 3.4
    SNF – 7.2

    The OT – 4.5
    Simpsons – 2.5
    Bobs – 2.0
    Family – 2.6
    American Dad – 2.0

  • Flame

Race, and 666 PA will get a 4 week trial

  • Nick

I said that everything I posted would be the ratings when there is no football overrun. And postseason baseball is a special event, it doesn’t count either.

    @TomSFBay

    OUAT – 3.0
    Revenge – 2.7
    666 Park – 2.2

Hah! There’s no way ABC is gonna be that low in the fall. 666 Park will also retain more audience from Revenge.
