NASCAR Sprint Cup was Sunday's top cable program, earning a 1.4 adults 18-49 cable rating. The season finale of Breaking Bad came in second, with a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating, down from last week's 1.4. Several popular Sunday cable scripted shows took the Labor Day weekend off.
We only receive the top 100 cable shows for adults 25-54 for the whole day from our principal source. If you don’t see an original episode of a show here, it’s because it wasn’t in the top 100.
The list below is long but you can use your browsers "find on page" feature (usually CTRL+F or CMD+F) to search - that's probably the easiest way to find Hell On Wheels.

how is Web Therapy still on the air?
Wow, 1.555 million for Doctor Who is spectacular! The companies like Fios that added BBCA HD in time for Copper must have helped Doctor Who (I have Fios, and for the first time, I watched last Saturday’s Doctor Who in HD on BBCA, while in the past I would “find” the HD version online soon after the UK broadcast).
And Copper actually went up a little (in viewers), despite it being Labor Day weekend:
Week 1 – 1.107 million/0.36 demo
Week 2 – 0.874 million/0.27 demo
Week 3 – 0.901 million/0.27 demo
I’m sure BBCA is writing a press release as we speak for Doctor Who, as that is now the highest-rated single broadcast of any program in the channel’s history (note that the 1.8 million Copper was the sum of the premiere and three immediate repeats).
I hope that Hell on Wheels will be able to at least maintain its current ratings without having Breaking Bad as its lead out. It’s a great show; more people should be watching.
I’m noticing that Showtime shows don’t do very well. I wonder what kinds of numbers Homeland will get?
Homeland will get over 2 million. It had a relatively monster season last year, both in terms of critical success and in the “Showtime” ratings department. It’s going to supplant Dexter (if it already hasn’t…?) as Showtime’s most watched show, and it’s certainly Showtime’s best (with Dexter well past its prime and The Borgias a pretty damn good but not great show). The ad campaign and word-of-mouth are going to lead Homeland to a 2+ mil premiere–the first episode last year got about 1 mil, and the number consistently went up all the way through the finale. Homeland’s going to be huge this year.
@tv#1…
Hell On Wheels has been pretty consistent so far this season, which is surprising me a little. It’s still not a great show, nowhere near MM and BB, and it’ll never be Deadwood–no matter how much it wants to be–but this season is much, much stronger than the first so far. I was a little reluctant to tell my friends I watched it last season, simply because large portions of it were so competently mediocre. I don’t feel that way anymore. If the numbers maintain, it will be fine. Averaging around 2.5 mil will put it on par with AMC’s premiere shows, and will definitely warrant a third season renewal.
Hey @Nick. What do you think on a business level now that ALOT of small cable channels are looking to fridays + saturdays to build there cable channels. Because I’ve seen that’s were Animal Planet, CMT, and OWN have gotten alot of their steadily ratings from. Why do you think that is?
You dont want to wait til next year for last episodes of Breaking Bad ?

Don’t waste your time people. I don’t even think they’ve filmed the final 8, and even if they have, AMC isn’t going to completely alter their schedule.
The final episodes have not been shot yet. Consider this 16-episode season as two 8-episode seasons. That’s what I’m doing.
I’m not confident about a Hell on Wheels renewal. When fall season starts, the show’s gonna get crushed.
One Car Too Far (DISC) ?
Hell on Wheels story lines are still meandering all over the place. The individual plots aren’t overlapping at all hardly – I mean, how am I supposed to get involved with a character when they’re on screen for what? 30-40 seconds? And then it moves on to the next character’s story – another 40 seconds. It’s like reading 2-3 pages of every chapter of a book and expecting to stay interested. And FFS, where is Rev Cole going? Noonan is one of the two actors (other is Heyerdahl, of course) in HoW that are keeping me watching. Mount’s performance wasn’t bad in Ep 201, but now it’s just…eh.
I think I’m done with this series now. If it makes it another couple seasons maybe I’ll download or something. Otherwise…good riddance.
Besides, who needs to watch a crappy civil war period drama when there’s a perfectly good (and getting better) substitute – why, ‘ello Coppuh!
