I poked around Soap Opera Network and uncovered these things about GH: (I’m fairly certain of these, but it’s hard to say without manually checking each week.)
-Last time at 2.0 was April 4-8, 2011
    -Last time at 1.0 (W18-49) was March 5-9, 2012
-Last time at #2 (W18-49 viewers) was December 12-16, 2011
-In addition, this week pushed GH up to 2.0 for the season. This is the first week all season that it has posted a 2.0 for its seasonal average; this also makes it tied for third, instead of fourth. (Almost in time for the season to end!)

This could be a game changer for GH if it can keep it up. Not really sure it can. But if it can maintain at least 1.9 next week, I’ll be happy (it hasn’t hit 1.9 since OLTL was canceled).

Also significant is that all four shows are now up year-over-year in households, and none of them have hit or tied any lows in any category for the past three weeks. Good thing, too…I get really really tired of reading “ties low” all over the place :p

Oh…and as far as the time switch goes, I checked my DVR and it picked up the new time automatically (I have the standard U-verse DVR). So hopefully that bodes well for that demographic.

  • David

ABC has a graphic on the far right corner of the screen saing GH moves to a new time Sept 10. It stays up most of the show so even in YouTube and if you DVR commercials you cannot miss the info about the time change. Also I know my local affiliate and others when promoting Katie put a graphic up usually during the 2nd scene after the commercial break saying GH is moving to 2pm then a graphic saying Katie at 3. Plenty of info about the time change out there. Plus those with DVRs most will set it as a series recording. Doing that means it picks up the time change automatically!

As for Ian Buchanan not being on being the reason GH’s ratings lowered at the end of the week I don’t see that being the case at all! All shows dropped on Weds., thurs., and Fri. So the drop is more likely due to the labor day weekend! I would guess since most in the 18-49 demo well at least half of that demo would have been infants or not even born when he was last on. Those 35-49 maybe but beyond that again most would be too young to even know who he is.

  • David

Also the graphic ABC had up had been in the lower right corner of the screen since July! I not surprised Richard didn’t see it I mean Heather was in the opening scene but I guess his eye sight is not what it used to be as he missed her and Leslie Charleson! Both were in numerous scenes yesterday. Oh and Leslie Charleson has said she had it out with Frank V. So that was Richard posting false info once again due to his grudge against Frank V. And Ron C.

  • David

Leslie Charleson had said that she never had it out with Frank V. So that is more of arichards lies trying to make Grank V. And Ron C. Look bad

In my area Katie is airing at 4pm. lol. I found it funny that my local affiliate wasn’t airing Katie in ABC’s “Strongly reccomended 3pm slot”. I’ve read where alot of people are airing Katie at 4pm and some even at 5pm! If it’s this way in 40-50% of the country than she won’t be getting the “big GH lead-in”. Even if GH rose to it’s 2007-2008 numbers (3.8 million viewers) it still wouldn’t have an affect on Katie if she is airing an hour or two hours after GH. lol. On the positive side, I am SOOOOOOOO happy for GH. My DVR also picked up the time change so it’s ready to record GH from 2-3pm. Sorry but my DVR won’t be recording The Chew or Katie. Just GH. Also, I think when Duke Lavery does come back that it will definiately give GH a nice bump in the ratings. Long Live GH!!! Lol but DAYS has been great too! I’m also looking forward to the new material from the new team at Y&R. Michael Muhney (Adam) tweeted that he couldn’t wait. That the show is about to enter one of it’s best eras and that the script makes sense and is exciting and has lots of energy and is soooo good. I hope he’s right! I have missed my Y&R!

  • Brad

Also, does anybody else notice this here….Duke Lavery will be back on GH around October which is the same time frame that Eileen Davidson returns to Days of our Lives to play Kristen DiMera (one of the most popular characters in DAYS history. One that fans have been wanting for 14 years. One that brought DAYS up to #2 in the ratings in the 1990s) lol seems like DAYS & GH are pulling out all the stops to make people tune in this fall. I think the remaining four soaps are here to stay. They won’t go anywhere. That’s just my opinion.

  • Chrisann D

BIG GRIN!! I am trying so hard not to get my hopes too high for GH so I will try and contain myself!!!! I am so hopeful that GH can keep up these numbers! I would love to see ALL the soaps post good numbers EVEN if I am not a big fan of B&B I so don’t want to see anyone else lose their soap.
I am so glad that they gave Sam and Jason a story together yesterday and today. I have never been a big fan of Jason only because he seems so moody and unhappy all the time. But his scenes with Sam the last couple of days were kind of “sweet” for lack of a better word. I get why some want them to stay together, there is alot of history between the two.
I wonder when the last time GH has been in the number 2 spot in the 18-49 ratings?

  • Matt

Wowwww. Just wow. AWSOME households for GH! I hasn’t gotten a 2.2 in like over a year! I bet any money that at Lear one epp from this week got 3M! It would’ve had to have been todays. I’m predicting this weeks rating were all between 2.7-3.1M. Also, GH was soooooo surprisingly up in the Men 18+ viewers! They got over 500K this past week when they usually get 400K?!?! Also nice job GH for ruin #1 in the 18-34 dem and #2 in both the 18-49 dem and viewer area. Great job… Oh and by the way the show is freaking awesome right now.

  • Richard

Brad, I think some of the affiliates are hoping that Katie will get better ratings later and airing it then.

That is what many say why Judge Judy and some of them do better is they are watched after college kids and all get home. Plus some mothers getting home, etc.

It may work to Katie’s advantage to air later. I know in some foreign countries they air their soaps at that time too. And they do better.

  • Aaron

One thing I don’t understand about GH is… if the entire city is threatened, wouldn’t the President call a state of emergency?

  • Glen

Great news for GH! Hope the numbers keep rising. I also hope that the time slot change won’t dampen the show’s Nielsen momentum.

  • Matt

I bet B&B will do very well this week as it is Ridge’s (Ron Moss’s) last week!!!! :(

The great thing about GH rising is everyone of ABC’s replacements aka THE Revolution and GAA has bombed. Its great news for GH that it keeps tugging along. ABC should keep GH and IMO it should only get higher when ABC celebrates 50 years of GH. I hope the ratings skyrocket with big returns and I hope people keep tuning in.

  • Richard

Next week will be a test for GH. The show moved to the 3:00 timeslot shortly after it premiered in 1963. It moved to 3:15 for a short time when it aired for 45 minutes. But since 1978 when it went to an hour it has been on at 3:00.

That is a long time in the same time slot.

It will be interesting to see what affect this has on the ratings if any.

Also it will be interesting to see the comparisons to GH and to OLTL a year ago as I am sure it will happen. It already happens some now as some point out that GH under Ron C./Frank V. is lower than OLTL was this time last year under them.

    B&B has fallen to 3rd

    I hope it bounces back

I’m still hoping that Sami and EJ can get a chance to really be togeher on DOOL. The writers always tease us; they come so close, then someone else comes along and it’s over. They are so good together; it was so awesome when they were on the run together. Now they brought Raif back into the picture and got Sami all confused about EJ. It seems like the ratings went up during their time on the run. I think a lot of people like seeing them together. Raif and Brandon were the best matches for Sami, but I still think that EJ is the one she belongs with.

  • John

ANY soap having a ratings bump is good for all of us who enjoy the genre. I only watch GH but am happy to see when others do well. As long as the ratings ate there this format may stay alive. BTW, did I actually see Steve Burton smile last week????? Didn’t know he could!!

  • Stacy

I don’t understand how one week soap ratings can be high and then they crash. Days was high for two weeks and then this week they crashed. This week gh is high but will it crash just like days did.

  • Clarke

I’m sorry, but I can’t fathom why anyone would willingly watch B&B (Bold and the Botox – as I like to call it) right now. The show used to be exciting and complex, now it is NOTHING but the Liam/Hope/Steffy show. I only know this because it comes on after Y&R and everytime time I try to watch it ALL I hear about is “will Liam go back to Hope? Steffy loves Liam but Liam loves Hope but Hope doesn’t love Liam….”. Why can’t the writers actually write for any other characters…..?

Y&R’s writing right now is pretty sub-par. I never though MAB was as bad as people made her out to be, but right now I see what people mean. The whole “Victor’s got amnesia” plot is beyond tired. I’m excited to see what JFP can do with the show.
