NEWS AND NOTES FROM CBS SPORTS NETWORK’S
INSIDE COLLEGE FOOTBALL
(RANDY CROSS ON NOTRE DAME-MICHIGAN STATE):
You can’t just say ‘we’re going to pound the heck out of the ball.’ Michigan State, through two games, is giving about 54 yards per game rushing. And that’s not going to help play action. That’s not going to help your offense at all. They have to get in the triple digits running. Everett Golson is going to have to use some magic in avoiding that wonderful defense.

(BRIAN JONES ON ALABAMA-ARKANSAS):
I think ‘Bama wins by at least two touchdowns in this ball game on the road. You look at Arkansas last week, they allowed over 500 yards of total offense to ULM. They can’t run the ball. You’re up 21-7, you can’t put them away. You’re up 28-7, you can’t run the rock and put the Warhawks away. They have big issues on the offensive side of the ball.

(AARON TAYLOR ON OKLAHOMA):
They struggled on the road to UTEP, granted it was the first game, maybe they were flat a little bit. But Landry Jones has kind of been pedestrian. The offensive line giving up six sacks in two games. And last week they started out slow. Good teams need to play fast wire-to-wire and they’re just a little bit too sluggish to be a top-five team early on.
