Second Since He Was Elected President In 2008

President Barack Obama will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Tuesday, Sept. 18 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This will mark President Obama’s second visit to the LATE SHOW since his election as President of the United States in 2008 – he last appeared on the broadcast Sept. 21, 2009.  Including his appearances when he served as U.S. Senator from Illinois and during his 2008 presidential campaign, this will be his seventh overall visit to the LATE SHOW.

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated.  Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope, Eric Stangel, Justin Stangel and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

Obama is on Letterman more than Paul Shaffer is these days. (Kidding, Paul. You’re still a musical genius.)

  • Hillbilly

Remember when it was “taboo” for a sitting POTUS to appear on such shows? I have no problem with it. I never could understand why some thinks it belittles the job/office.

  • bob

This is why he won’t see the Israeli President. Shameful. Poor guy better get all the fun he can manage because DEFINITELY after this week, he is out of the White House in January.

  • Ralph Hahn

@Hillbilly: I have no problem with a sitting President appearing on a late night talk show. NOT during an election year, though.

Used to be a 60-day rule before Election Day. If you have one candidate, you have to extend an invitation to the other. Letterman producers may have extended the courtesy to Romney, but it makes no sense. With an audience on the host’s side, it’s a no-win situation.

  • Ralph Hahn

Would it shock you to learn that Letterman is going to be honored at this year’s Kennedy Center honors? It didn’t shock me, either.

Along with Dustin Hoffman and…LED ZEPPELIN. “Keep it coolin’, baby.”

  • JS

In honor of Jerry Lawler- I hope Dave punches ObaMORON right in the head like Lawler did to Andy Kaufman.

  • Ralph Hahn

JS: You DO remember that the bit was staged and choreographed by Lawler and Kaufman, right?

This is a man who can’t make room in his busy campaign fundraising schedule for critical intelligence briefings, or his jobs council, to meet with the Prime Minister of Israel or get out of bed while the conuslate is under attack. Who do you want answering that phone at 3:00 in the morning? Someone who will actually get out of bed!
