Updated: TV Ratings Wednesday: 'The Voice' Beats 'The X Factor' In Its Time Period, 'Big Brother' Dips + 'Guys With Kids'

FOX was the number 1 network with adults 18-49, but NBC won with total viewers.

Update: in time zone adjusted fast nationals (basically, finals) The X Factor was adjusted up to a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating  between 8-10p. We won't see any adjustments for the other networks until the finals. Update 2: The Voice was also adjusted up a tenth to a 3.4 adults 18-49 rating in the final national numbers.

On FOX, the premiere of The X Factor earned a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, down considerably from last years premiere 4.4 18-49 rating. Your predictions were way too optimistic For those interested, during the common hour The X Factor and The Voice shared, The X Factor notched a 2.7, effectively giving The Voice the win for the 8PM hour.

On NBC,  The Voice scored a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, down seven tenths from yesterday's 4.0 18-49 rating. America's Got Talent  earned a 2.9 18-49 rating, which is up from it's last Wednesday original's 2.2 rating and a season high for a Wednesday. The premiere of Guys With Kids earned a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating

On CBS, Big Brother garnered a 2.0, down a tenth from last week's 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.

On the CW, Oh Sit!  was even last week's 0.4 adults 18-49 rating.

In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," 2.4/7 with an encore telecast; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 1.9/5 with an encore; and ABC's combo of "Nightline," 2.8/7; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.5/5. 

  • In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.7/.4 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.4/2 with an encore; "Nightline," 0.7/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3.
  • At 12:35 a.m., "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" (1.3/5 in metered-market households) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (0.9/3).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1).
  • At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.9/4 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.4/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

Definitions: Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    Considering the promotion and expectations that were put into X Factor those are alarming numbers. The show bombed. With all the hype and promotion FOX put into this show, and considering most shows go down after their season premiere these are really bad numbers for X Factor. Sometimes you have to look beyond the raw numbers. In theory a 3.4 is a good number, but not for this show in that situation.

    It’s still not a bomb it just didn’t score blockbuster numbers or beat The Voice. Not sure why people were expecting that anyways when the show didn’t receive those numbers all of last season. It’s a demo player.

    Some Spinner on the EW blogged that Flopfactor beat The Voice in Demo…not any more (now that The Voice too was adjusted up to 3.4)!

    Once again. The raw numbers are good. When you take into account the marketing muscle and the expecatations FOX has for this show the show bombed. It will not be near these numbers a month or two from now. The Britney Spears curiosity and excitement only will last the first week or two. For all shows the numbers are good. For this show the numbers are terrible.

    This is so upsetting to see. After all the promotion, this is all they could pull. Disappointing and sad. I actually liked it.

    I do agree LA Reid along with Nicole should of been let go. I don’t think many of the viewers connect with Reid. I understand what he brings to the table but I believe there should of been another male on the panel closer to the age of the demographics they are trying to gain.

    I’m glad to see that SPN held it’s 3.0 rating against XF; it’s a good sign that SPN will do well on Wednesdays when the new season begins.
