I’m pretty sure that DOOL will be cancelled if it continues to rate this low in the demo.

When is their 2013 contract up?

  • MBmomof3

I’m not too concerned with these ratings numbers due to the holiday and pre-emptions. I think it will be more interesting to see the numbers once GH’s new timeslot and the new fall talk shows are in the mix.

I wish DOOL had been able to keep the momentum from the Daysaster. I wonder if the current shows are from the new team or the old? I wish they’d give Lucas a great storyline. Love that character.

We will see if GH is able to keep up the momentum from their big umbrella storyline.

I am pretty pleased with JFP’s choices in reducing the cast on Y&R so far. As I stated last week, not because they (mostly) aren’t talented, but the characters serve no real purpose on the show. I had stated I would like to see Victoria Rowell return as Dru, but a brief Google search to see why she is so hated by her coworkers, I can see why TPTB don’t want her on the canvas. She is a beautiful, talented actress, but would seem to potentially be a real liability and they are probably glad not to have to deal with her. I wonder if Dru has been gone long enough for a successful recast? I am concerned about Billy Miller and Michael Graziadei leaving. I really like those two actors and their characters.

B&B, not watching regularly, but at least ratings-wise they are pretty consistent and even typically show growth.

    GO Soaps!

RIP John Ingle who played GH’s Edward Quartermaine. It was so nice to see your face briefly, only a week ago. May your spirit be reunited with your dear wife.

  • MBmomof3

I just realized that if Billy Miller leaves, the only Abbot left on Y&R will be Jack and that awful Kyle :(

  • MBmomof3

Oh my, Ditto to ebarryhill. RIP Mr. Ingle. So glad we fans got to see such a great story during his appearance on GH last week.

  • Jojo

On Days the current shows are from the new/old writers aka Gary Tomlin crew and now they do the almost exact same stories they did one year which got them fired..NBC, Sony and Corday by rehiring Tomlin (minus the horrible Highley..shudder..puke) maybe want thei soap to be cancelled for good..i don’t see another reason for this madness..lol.

  • Sara

I don’t really mind the Lucas character on Days most of the time but outside of Sami his stories have been major failures..and still with Sami right now he is quite a bore, since they decided he was a ‘good guy’ he became so self-righteous and quite ridiculous sometimes..He worked when he was his mother’s sidekick in their schemes but now..he can be quite obnoxious and these writers are really determined to make him irrelevant by replacing him with their ‘pet’ Rafe..at least the actor playing Lucas although not a great actor can add some humor and ‘zest’ when they give him some material..but now totally irrelevant..

  • TimsDale4ever

This weeks ratings make me dread next weeks even more than I already did. GH and DAYS against each other surely will not improve things as well as mixing in new and returning gab shows. I’m scared – very scared!

Anxiously awaiting Miss Phelps episodes to start airing for Y&R. I’ve said this before but with the CONSTANT changes in the soaps these days with the ever wanting to hit the big payoff that never seems to come, I still don’t understnad why these shows tape so far in advance, so once you make a change, it takes months for the NEW stuff to show up on screen. Is that smart or stupid? Maybe actors, once in the studio, are filming scenes for multiple episodes and therefore they are only paid for one working day even though they completed work for more than one episode. ???

  • David

RIP John Ingle indeed a true class act will miss him on GH!

@MB I hope the big story they enticed people to stick with GH. The next few weeks will give a good picture of that to us all!

@Timsdale hopefully in the markets where Days and GH go head to head the Nielsin viewers will DVR’D one and watch the other so it does not hurt either shows ratings!

I have been watching Days off and on for about a year now since AMC left the air! Never realized Wally Kurth was part of the cast! I assume he must be recurring!

  • Jeff

Chrisann, you did nothing wrong. Always consider the source! Don’t worry, he will pop up again soon, just with a different name. I think he was someone else on this board (forgot name) that used to talk down to everyone who didn’t agree with him. That person went away and here came Richard. Of course, I could be wrong and be watching too much GH!!!

In real news that is important and relevant, RIP John Ingle. I am so glad your last scenes were so powerful with so few words.

And, who is Sean Kanan going to be playing? Would they dare recast Steve Burton after 1 week of being off air with his former onscreen brother? They do like enough alike, and he is a strong actor. I can’t imagine bringing AJ back, but if they do, I hope Alan comes with!!!

  • Chrisann

Jeff, Thanks. I told Richard once he reminded me of ClassicTvFan…that may be who you are thinking of. I was saddened too for John Ingles passing. His wife passed not too long ago. It happens with so many couples that when one goes the other follows soon after….maybe true love. I wonder when Steve Burtons last day is. It just won’t be the same without him. I am a fan of Jason and Sam. But my favorite couple on GH is Lulu and Dante. I would love to see them as the next super couple.

  • Jeff

    Chrisann,

ClassicTVFan also said they weren’t posting anymore and then suddenly came along Richard who shared tons of the same opinions and viewpoints, wrote the same, attacked people in the same way, etc.

Anyway, according to TVGUIDE, it’s Oct 22nd for Steve, and Sean appears on Oct 29th. They won’t say who he is playing. I think it would be a gigantic mistake to recast so soon and with someone who was so closely associated with the character. It would be odd to say the least. I am hoping they let Jason go off as a hero who is presumed dead.

  • MBmomof3

Jeff, I agree that Sean Kanan as a recast Jason so soon after Burton’s departure would be odd. Love Sean Kanan and I hope they write a great story for his return whether he returns as AJ or another character. Wish they would bring back Alan Q. Hope they give Burton and Ingle awesome exit stories. They will be missed.

  • Mike

OMG! I didn’t know about John Ingle. Just reading this here. May he be blessed in his new journey as he appeared to be in life. Rest in peace John and thanks for sharing your wonderful talent with us for so long.

Now, I just finished the 7/12 episode of GH and was wiped out by the time the rain was falling on everyone. I was done. I mean blown away. Right now, I don’t care about the ratings, if they keep this up, we have no worries. This show is excellent. I mean I’m not easy to reduce to tears but this ending just blew me away. I think it was Olivia’s halluncination about the rain before it happened ,and I finally understood what that hallucination meant, when it was raining on everyone, that wiped me out. That was awesome. Although some referred to this story as stunt, it was very effective. Okay we can call it a stunt, but it was so good. Knowing John Ingle is gone and just seeing his last episode last night makes it special. And still some good stuff coming!!

Now, y’all can’t play nicely for a few days. Someone did what I didn’t think was doable and drove Richard away. Although I did not agree with his opinions, I always respected his right to his feelings. He repeatedly made them clear to us. I know you’re watching Richard. Don’t stay away too long. We had our debates too but I never got mad at you. I just agreed to disagree.

  • JayTN

Amy…I’m not 100% sure, but I believe that NBC’s contract with Sony expires at the end of the 2012-13 season in September 2013. With NBC filming so far in advance, it would seem that the network would need to inform producers of their decision by at March – at the latest – in order to craft an appropriate ending.

Jojo…technically, Gary Tomlin is not a new/old writer on “Days”. The last time Tomlin actually wrote for “Days” was back in 1980-81. Tomlin’s previous gig at “Days” was actually as co-executive producer (2008-11).

  • John

Not to worry. Like a soap character who has been shot, drowned, felled by a mystery malady, perished in a plane crash your nemesis Rich will unlikely rise from the dead. It is so much calmer on this post now.

  • ebarryhill

I’m not so sure about recasting “Jason”, with Kanan. I’m a longtime fan of the new writers of GH, and I know they have a history of doing the unexpected. I would not be unhappy about the choice of making him the new JQ, but it’s kind of predictable.

  • Brad

TVGuide did a brief interview with Kanan and he said Frank V. went so far as to offer him a contract and said “He had alot of big story coming up”. I really do hope it’s A.J. back from the dead, because no offense, but I could live without seeing Jason onscreen for about a year. The character has just been used so much and took up so much screentime that I think it would be nice to put the character to rest for a while, seeing as though he NEVER has a happy storyline.

  • Brad

That being said I LOVE GH & Hope the great ratings keep up. An article said Katie lost 43% of it’s GH lead-in on Friday. GH had a 1.8/11 in Women 25-54 and Katie got a 0.8 and also fell to a 1.7/5 household rating.

  • MBmomof3

While I think it would be odd to have Sean Kanan be a Jason recast so soon, any longtime soap fans will remember the days when a new actor would show up in a scene as a longtime character and a deep voiceover would announce “Jason Morgan (Quartermaine) is now being portrayed by Sean Kanan”. That always cracked me up. But somehow, it worked. One poster on here even said it once happened mid-episode! Can’t imagine how that would go over with fans these days.

I agree with Brad, in that while I think Jason is an integral character, I would be happy to be Jason free for a little while. If they write Mr. Ingle’s passing into Edward’s passing, I could see a reason for AJ to resurface. Characters come back from the dead all the time on soaps and it really doesn’t bother this soap fan. Hey, I was happy when this regime resurrected Todd Manning and Victor Lord, Jr. Loved it!
