Friday's Ratings Via TV Media Insights

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.  More information on ratings is available here.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Nice move by the CW to air ANTM on Fridays..perfect program for the night. And can someone please explain why/how TOUCH was renewed for a second season?..I don’t get it.

  • Duncey

Guys with Kids might be a pretty strong show they really should’ve picked up LadyFriends. NBC could’ve actually started the 2 hour block this year instead of next year on Fridays had they ordered enough multi-cams.

  • Duncey

    @ Michael

Just wait until October 20th when Whitney and Nikita launches. That ratings report is going to reach 20 pages guaranteed.

  • Oliver

As much as I would love to see Community in the comparatively uncompetitive Wednesday 8:30 slot, I do find it a bit strange the number of people asking for Guys With Kids to be moved to Friday with Whitney, especially since a number of these people seem to believe GWK has a good chance of succeeding. I sense shenanigans.

That’s not to say I think it’s a bad idea.

The more compatible Whitney lead-in would likely benefit GWK, as would the lowered expectations of Friday. Whitney’s lead-in is wasted on Community as the two shows have very different audiences.

Animal Practice is an unknown quantity as a lead-in (I doubt it will be especially strong) but it’s much closer in style to Community than GWK. Even if AP flops, Community has the potential to be a self-starter.

I suspect if GWK is DOA on Friday then it would have been DOA on Wednesday too, so the network isn’t really losing much.

It also gives Community a shot in a non-death slot, and the online and critical Community audience will love you for it and forgive all your ‘broad’ sins.

So if NBC scheduling head Jeff Bader is reading this, go for it. Pretty please? With sugar on top?

(I think it’s possible NBC will make the change, but pretty unlikely)

Those are good #s for ANTM shame it is on the almost a network CW, but louzy for GWK and GO.

  • John A

People have been argueing about CW all summer not just cos its almost the fall.

  • cass rowland

amazing night abc thanks to the great premire of shark tank

  • poweranimals

“Nikita is getting the same in repeats” means you aren’t talking about one week, but multiple weeks. You also can’t judge this weeks episode against any other day of the week yet (you will be able to sometime Monday, but not until then).

Now there are three types of shows airing repeats at this time. Long term programming airing repeats from earlier in the 2011/2012 season (those are Nikita, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural and VD). We have long term programming airing short term repeats less then 7 days from the airing of the original, often referred to as Encores (of which Top Model is one), and then we have short term filler programming airing repeats less then a week old (this includes Catalina, Breaking Pointe, The Next, Oh Sit, La Complex, and Remodeled).

I assume you aren’t comparing Nikita’s to anything in the last group as that is absolutely considered filler material and currently not something to celebrate.

Nikita has a lower average in repeats then Hart of Dixie, then Vampire Diaries, then Supernatural. That isn’t in question. Well the numbers show it shouldn’t be.

And until we see finals we can’t accurately judge this week. But even if Nikita held as a.3 its average would still be the lowest of all returning shows. Both for the full Summer, and if you are only talking about when it moved to 9pm.

  • The End

The Nikita numbers above aren’t good by anyones standards but they really don’t matter at all at the moment.

Nikita for example is losing against repeats of Ghost Hunters and random reality shows on cable.

But fear now. These mean nothing. There’s no point saying Nikita is doomed because these numbers mean zilch, zero, nadda, nothing at all.

  • The End

    *But fear not.

  • s0303

that was definitely the worst episode of touch so far, no wonder fox didn’t air it last season…they probably shouldn’t have.

  • SJ

Shark Tank and WWYD both got a 1.7. Why on earth would WWYD get adjusted down – or Shark Tank up – just because ST ran a minute longer?! They had the exact same rating!

As much as I hate to say it, the LMS/Malibu Country duo would be a much better fit with the DWTS Results show on Tuesdays, not to mention that its audience probably wouldn’t overlap with New Girl, Go On et al. And ABC could run the ST/WWYD/2020 combo all year long and win almost every regularly programmed Friday night.

I agree that, in a bizarre twist, ANTM got a new lease on life with this Friday move. I bet Wednesdays are going to be CW’s biggest night. I’d be surprised if Arrow premieres below a 1.5. I think we’re looking at CW’s new flagship show right there.

And wow, is it too soon to scrap that second season of Touch?

  • Dan S

Fox would have been smarter renewing Alcatraz for Fri than Touch. Kiefer then would’ve been free to do the 24 movie now on hold. GWK would obviously be a better pairing with Whitney than Community which probably should’ve been left on Thur.

  • bluejoni

I live in the NYC area and have Cablevision. We don’t even get the CW anymore, there’s a dispute. I don’t really care except for ANTM, I miss that it’s all I ever watched on that crappy channel anyway !!

  • John A

Nah Fox rightly axed Alcatraz they should have also axed Touch.

  • Brandy

Sj, you’re being way too optimistic about Arrow.Cablevision customers don’t get CW, CWs ratings have declined a lot & had no hit the last two seasons, plus Secret Circle premiered at 1.3, Ringer (with a well known star SMG) premiered at 1.2 (Steven Arnell is a nobody).

  • Brandy

Plus, there were a LOT of angry Ringer & Secret Circle fans that said they won’t watch CW anymore.

  • Brandy

Also, unless I’m mistaken, nothing on CW has premiered to a 1.5 or higher since Nikita(2.2 )& Hellcats (2.0)& that was two years ago
