This is one of our "2012 Emmys, Who'll Win? Who Should?" posts, to see all our posts on the Emmy Awards click here.

The 2012 64th Annual Emmy Awards nominations are in.

Using my predicting, without predicting, method I use each year of simply choosing the previous year's winner (which is beginning to wobble a bit, but I'm sticking with it!) I am compelled to pick Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly) to once again win for Lead Actress In A Comedy Series.

In a double poll, here's your chance to tally who you think WILL win, and who you think SHOULD win.

Feel free to explain.

The 2012 64th Annual Emmy Awards airs on ABC on September 23, 2012.

I really enjoyed Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ performance this year but if Zooey Deschanel wins i won’t complain..

  • john

I’m afraid Lena Dunham could win, one of the most over-rated producer/actress of our time.

I know this is going to be unpopular, but Girls is really a bad show on so many leveles…

  • omabin

I don’t know the work of many of these ladies, but my personal pick for who I would like to win is Zooey Deschnael. As for who will win, I am thinking Amy Poehler (got my vote) or Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

  • Justin121

Will: Juia Louis-Dreyfus, Girls, or Nurse Jackie (cable).

    Should: Tina Fey (30 Rock).

  • glover

Will: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (or Lena Dunham).

Should: Amy Poehler (or Tina Fey).

    And I agree with john.

  • Atlanta

Julia Louis-Dreyer is hysterical, Amy Poehler is beyond deserving, Zooey Deschanel is not acting, she is playing herself.

  • Dan

Julia Louis Dreyfus will probably win because Veep is a new show but Amy Poehler could win because Parks was really good last season,

  • Alysse

    Should win: Amy Poehler
    Will win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus

I suppose I can’t be too bummed if Louis-Dreyfus wins since I’ve loved her since Seinfeld, but at the same time, I think Poehler is way overdue. Oddly enough, I was never a big fan of Poehler during her SNL days, but she’s grown a lot as an actor and her work on Parks and Rec has won me over. I could possibly see an upset from Lena Dunham, even though I think her writing is much stronger than her acting, but I really don’t see anyone outside this trio winning. Then again, I don’t think most people expected Melissa McCarthy to win last year, so who knows really?

  • NBC is awesome

    will: JLD
    should: Amy Poehler

I’d be fine if JLD because she’s always great, but Poehler should already have three of these things.

  • Kenny

Will- JLD on the little watched Veep Should- Amy Poehler- For her powerhouse performance in the debate, what a beautiful performance, Just Amazing i hope they reward her with the Emmy this year!!

  • Jared K

    Should Win: Amy Poehler
    Also Worthy: Lena Dunham

    Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfuss
Dark Horses: Amy Poehler, Lena Dunham

Poehler gave the all-around best performance and she has a dynamite submission episode, but I’m concerned that Parks and Rec being snubbed in the Comedy Series category (to say nothing of the way that Emmy voters continue to ignore Nick Offerman) indicates that there is less overall support for the show than she may need. A proven academy darling like Louis-Dreyfuss, who also happens to be the clear lead of a well-respected new show that scored a series nod, seems to be the safer bet. Dunham could surprise, but I’m betting that the voters will be more likely to honor her in either the writing or directing categories. It fits more with the whole ‘auteur’ narrative she has going on.

  • Nadine

Sorry, but Kaley Cuoco (TBBT) is so far ahead of the competition on this one that I don’t know how anyone else can be considered. Well, yeah, Tina Fey, although I don’t care for the show.

  • velouria00

One of the rare categories where I think the should win/will win will match: Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

  • Nick

    Will Win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Should Win: Melissa McCarthy, Mike and Molly

JLD is an Emmy favorite, and she’s not a bad actress either.

Melissa McCarthy is extremely talented, and deserves this so badly. Zooey Deschanel, Tina Fey, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are also very talented, even though I hate their shows.

This is literally the hardest competition to predict this year. Each nominee submitted a fantastic episode and I have no clue which way the voting will go. Amy Poehler deserves to win but her episode has much more heart than overt attempts at comedy. The academy loves recognizing Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her episode is fantastic as she gets to go through many different emotions. Tina Fey submitted her most hilarious Emmy tape ever – but I’m not sure if the voters would go back to her after several years away. For the first two-thirds of Lena Dunham’s episode, it fells like a pure ensemble piece but that last third is a knockout for Dunham. Melissa McCarthy, Zooey Deschanel and Edie Falco all submitted wisely as well – but I’m unsure of the Emmy voters going for them.

It is a tough race but I think Julia-Louis Dreyfus will come out on top

  • Tony ^_^

    Zooey Deschanel!! :D

  • LM

Love Dreyfus but Poehlor is really over due and deserves to win.

  • Carmen

    Will Win:
I think the poll may be right and Julia Louis-Dreyfus will get the nod this year. I understand she is very popular with the Hollywood crowd and she supports many of their causes and stands.

    Should Win:
Tina Fey: Call it a career work nod.

  • Paul

Lena Dunham is a great writer.
