This is one of our "2012 Emmys, Who'll Win? Who Should?" posts, to see all our posts on the Emmy Awards click here.
The 2012 64th Annual Emmy Awards nominations are in.
Using my predicting, without predicting, method I use each year of simply choosing the previous year's winner (which is beginning to wobble a bit, but I'm sticking with it!) I am compelled to pick Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife) to once again win for Lead Actress In A Drama Series.
In a double poll, here's your chance to tally who you think WILL win, and who you think SHOULD win.
Feel free to explain.
The 2012 64th Annual Emmy Awards airs on ABC on September 23, 2012.

Claire Danes did an amazing job, and I didn’t even liked her character (falling in love with a bastard terrorist, seriously?)
Claire Danes. She really does great acting in Homeland.
Claire Danes or Julianna Marguilies… either way i’m happy
I love Juliana Margulies, but this belongs to Claire Danes this year. She is my choice both to who should win and to who I want to win.
Will: Homeland
Should: Glenn Close Damages or THe GOOD Wife Julianna Margulies.
Will: Claire Danes (or Glenn Close).
Should: Claire Danes (or Glenn Close).
I know Claire Danes of Homeland is deserving & will win the Emmy. I’d die if Kathy Bates won for Harry’s Law as a final poke in the eye to NBC for cancelling a show that drew a lot of total viewers but were too old for advertisers.
Kathy Bates all the way!!!!!
Claire Danes should easily take it, she did an amazing job, especially in the last couple of episodes.
Wouldn’t mind if Julianna got back to back wins though.
Should Win: Claire Danes
Also Worthy: Elisabeth Moss
Will Win: Claire Danes
Dark Horse: Julianna Margulies, Michelle Dockery
Claire Danes is the clear class of this field, and if I had to pick a mortal lock among the acting categories, it would probably be her. That said, I thought Julianna Margulies was a mortal lock two years ago, and voters decided to make her wait a year while they honored Kyra Sedgwick. Maybe they’ll do the same this year. Dockery bears watching because she was a surprise nominee (most people thought that Elizabeth McGovern would get this slot, although Dockery is more deserving) on a show that Emmy voters – particularly the actors – clearly love. And while I didn’t list her, don’t rule out Kathy Bates – if Emmy voters feel like she and her show got jobbed (they didn’t, but whatever) she could ride the veterans’ vote to an upset win. I’d be very happy if Elisabeth Moss surprised, but she’s overshadowed in her own submission episode by Christina Hendricks, and Mad Men’s long run of futility with the acting awards speaks for itself.
Another category where it looks like the most deserving actor will win: Claire Danes.
The only other nominee giving a performance anywhere near as good as her is Glenn Close and she’s already been amply rewarded for Damages.
No one else comes close to the performance that Claire Danes gave on Homeland last year. She should and will win because no one else really has the momentum to beat her. Glenn Close is still great on Damages but season four was more of a Rose Byrne-centric season. Michelle Dockery’s character is one that the academy typically nominates but doesn’t reward. Julianna Margulies didn’t submit a great episode. Elisabeth Moss’ episode is much more ensemble-y than her past submissions. And they won’t reward Kathy Bates for Harry’s Law – they just won’t.
Claire Danes for the win.
Will Win/Should Win: Claire Danes
Claire Danes is very talented, and the Emmy voters love her. She played a crazy person, but was very believeable.
Kathy Bates is a close second. She commands your attention as soon as she’s on screen.
I think this is the only poll where will and should actually match up, and by such a large majority, just goes to show how absolutely fantastic Claire Danes is (not to mention playing a mentally ill person is the emmy equivalent of the English patient)
Claire Danes should and WILL win!
S1 of Homeland is one of the best first seasons of a show I’ve ever seen, and she was fantastic.
Will win: Claire Danes
Should win: Julianna Margulies.
But man, wouldn’t it be something if Kathy Bates won? Kind of like an f-you to NBC for cancelling the show. I’d be looking forward to that speech!
Will win : Claire Danes
Should win : Julianna Marguilles. But that’s mainly ( I admit ) because I’m a huge fan of The Good Wife and of the actress herself. She had a great year so I think she deserves it. Especially since network shows give 22 episodes a season which are all great, while Homeland just had to deliver 12 strong episodes.
Also, I love Glenn Close of Damages, but while she was still one of the best I thought she did a better job in previous seasons.
And Kyra Sedgwick should have been nominated.
Emily Van Kamp should have been on the list. I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side.
Zero question about this one. Danes should win it, Danes will win it. Much as I like some of the other actresses here, it’s not even close.
