TV Fan Excuse Bingo: Vote For The New Bingo Squares!

As the start of the 2012-13 broadcast television season approaches, so too does the beginning of the 2012-13 Fan Excuse Bingo season where our readers can peruse our comments section and play along!

Sadly, our current Fan Excuse Bingo card above is several years old and is getting s bit long in the tooth. When it was created, DirecTV was still in the business of saving failed shows. Now Netflix and other streaming companies have picked up the mantle of being pelted with desperate fan pleas. Broadcast primetime ratings have fallen even further, and DVR use continues to edge upwards.

It's a new season, and it requires some new bingo squares!

We'll remake the Fan Excuse Bingo card in a two step process.

Step 1: Thank you to everyone who's comments last week generated items for this week's voting.

Step 2: (this post) Below is a poll including selected new suggestions from last week's post post *plus* all the old favorites in the card above in random order. Now is your chance to vote to determine which squares will be included in the new card to debut on September 24, the first day of the new season!

For the nostalgic, historically minded excuse fanatics, do not fear, if you'd like to regale your friends with the many past fan excuse bingo cards they're still here.

Vote early! Vote often!

(vote for as many as you want, as many times as you want, who said this was "fair"?)

While I admit to leaving out many suggested aquares because I simply got tired of typing into the poll creation form, I may add more if I see ones I like in the comments for this post. ;)

That is a loooong list. Haha…

  • Justin121

I wish there was an option to vote for more than one choice (the sequare thingy).

“I wish there was an option to vote for more than one choice (the sequare thingy).”

Oops! I thought I had that set up, but I forgot to. Now you can select as many as you want each time you vote.

  • Justin121

Done! That was fast (the changes to the poll, I mean. I’m yet to vote).

  • Justin121

You know, it’d be funnier if you inserted “Summer Glau is a show killer” and “NBC is run by morons” instead of X and XYZ in the corresponding options :D

  • Nick

I have seen more than 90% of these used already (an have used half of them myself :-D ).

That’s a long list. My favorite is “WTF is TV by the numbers? Who cares what they think?” :-)

  • Max Vrany

Can you make is so it shows actual vote counts instead of percentages?

“That’s a long list. My favorite is “WTF is TV by the numbers? Who cares what they think?” “

That one already used too, by Harry’s Law EP Bill D’Elia!

  • One eye

    That bingo hurts so good!)

  • Roy

I could have voted for all of them, since they’re all great excuses. But my favorite is “The CEO/producer’s wife/son/gardener is on the show”. Especially the gardener, that just one just made me lol. Why not the coffee boy/girl or the driver.

“It doesn’t have a laugh track” would be funny as well, since people seem to bash CBS a lot for their laugh tracks.

Can’t wait to find out what makes the bingo card in the end. :P

Is there a way to have the results sorted by percentage? It’s a bit confusing to interpret the results when the choices are in some order, the results are in a different order, and that final order appears to be random.

And that goes for all the polls using that software.

  • Roy

Just looking through the comments and these ones are amazing too:

I have heard this one about a couple of new shows like The New Normal

    If it doesn’t succeed:
    1. The writing is too sophisticated for dumb redneck Americans
    2. You are a bigot if you don’t watch PC shows (this was hands down my favorite)
    ==========

    * It has a huge fan base….in Brazil
“Angry IMDB fans killed it. They’ve killed the entire genre with their pickiness.”
It does great on college campuses

    “‘It didn’t air in Utah!’”

    This cracked me up.

This one is my personal favorite. Let’s see how long it takes for this excuse to be used on “The New Normal”. I’d say 1-2 weeks :-)

Sadly, not for readers of the site. That’s my biggest gripe with this default WordPress polling software. We’ve tried other polling software, but keep coming back to this one because the others always seem to have even more problems.

“Can you make is so it shows actual vote counts instead of percentages?”

Could. Don’t want to, at least at this time.

Should combine “it already aired in Canada” and “it’s made in Canada” to just one: “Blame Canada”. ;)

  • Holly

Should combine “it already aired in Canada” and “it’s made in Canada” to just one: “Blame Canada”

    I like it!

“Blame Canada” added to the poll.

If the three together gather enough votes to make it into the top 25, I will use it!

  • Fred

I think they’re all great suggestions, you should keem them all and do a random card like so: http://tinyurl.com/9ay4oto

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    @Fred, genius!

I had used a similar bingo card maker, but unlike the one you linked, it had no persistent storage, when I closed the window, all the data was gone, and there was nothing to link to generate a different card on an ongoing basis.

Now, we’re really going to be able to play!

  • thesnowleopard

Wait…did one of mine make it into the final lineup? Oh, I’m so proud! You go, sad little excuse, you! [sniffle]

I like “Blame Canada.” It has a nice ring to it. Every time someone brought it up in the future, we could post links to the Bingo card and a YouTube video of a pipes band playing “O Canada.”

  • Emily

these are so great! I want to vote for all of them!
