A new season of Survivor premieres tonight, Survivor:Philippines. This edition has a couple of gimmicks. Three former castaways who left the show for medical reasons are getting a second chance to compete. A couple of semi-celebrities, former Facts of Life star Lisa Welchel and former baseball MVP Jeff Kent will also attempt to outwit, outlast and outplay. Will these twists breathe new life into the grandfather of competitive reality shows?

Survivor: One World premiered to a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. How will Survivor: Philippines compare?

  • Baqinardo

    It’ll tie XFactor.
    3.1-3.3

  • iggy

Jeff Kent and Blair from The Facts of Life

  • RG-X

Lisa on Survivor has GAINED a lot of interest alone – I think it will at least tie X-Factor tonite too

  • Travis

    I’m guessing 2.8-2.9.

  • Bergie

The one show I get excited about each year. The producers have done a great job year after year pumping new life into this show with new twists and turns. Then its just a matter of how the “new cast” works out. Sometimes they’re great…..sometimes they’re not so great. But this show never fails to deliver great entertainment and some of the best TV moments I’ve ever watched. Put me down as “VERY EXCITED” that this show is back!

  • Mega64

I’ll be optimistic and say it’s over a 3.0. Fall premieres of shows tend to do well before tapering off a bit. It’s when spring hits that shows really start to hurt.

That, and I think there might be interest from former viewers to watch Mike Skupin from Australia, the guy best known for falling into the fire and being medevac’d. Considering he hasn’t been on another season until now, there might be a few Australia fans back from when the show was still somewhat a national phenomenon that might come watch to check up on the guy.

That, plus the other stunt casting. The two other returnees are only really relevant to the hardcore Survivor fans (even if I am rooting for Penner to kick some ass).

  • Matt

    3.3 for sure

  • Jeff (Canada)

Survivor over the past few seasons has been one of the most consistent shows on TV. If history serves us right, it’ll do between 2.7 and 3.2 for the entire season. The premiere will probably do 3.3.

  • AppleStinx

They should have invited Nancy McKeon too. I would have put my money on Lisa Welchel.

  • Fed

I hope it will be near X Factor and can rebound from the awful last season. :)

  • Jeff R.

I really hope it beats X Factor in their head-to-head hour. I’m X Factor will gain demo at 9:00, but I think Survivor can beat it at 8.

I’ve very excited for this edition. 3.4

  • MoHasanie

    Survivor: 3.1
    X factor: 3.0

  • Joe

    oh boy another reality sh*t

  • DanO

    @lee

In defense of the casting of Lisa Welchel, she actually applied like normal people to be on the show. Jeff Kent, well, I dunno about that one!

  • Gregg

I remember Lisa Whelchel from before The Facts of Life, when she was on The New Mickey Mouse Club. All these years later, she still looks FINE! I’ll be watching Survivor tonight for the first time in years!

  • Fed

    @lee

Well the show HAS ratings after 12 years and 25 seasons. It is a phenomenon that has life for a couple more years. Only thing that has to hapen is to return to casting people who want to play the game. Best reality show in history, hands down :)

  • Survivor Fan

3.3- down 3% vs. SP or up 7% vs. OW

    Beats X Factor by 0.2

  • City Kitty

Three tribes will pump new life into this show. I can’t wait!!

  • ABC hater

    2.5-2.9
