Gordon Ramsay To Save Fox Monday? 'Mob Doctor' Replacement Triage, What's Your Guess? (Poll)

Fox's The Mob Doctor premiered to just a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating on Monday night. It's now a dead show airing, and will be off Fox's schedule sooner rather than later.

On Tuesday, we suggested that Touch currently slotted to premiere on Friday (October 26), would be moved to Monday, 9pm after The Mob Doctor is yanked, but it seems that we may have been limiting our options unnecessarily.

With the announcement that the season premier of Kitchen Nightmares has been indefinitely postponed, with no announcement of when and where it will go, some have speculated that Kitchen Nightmares featuring Fox's go to guy, Gordon Ramsay, will move to Monday's, either at 9pm, or at 8pm with Bones moving to 9pm. Some have also suggested that Fringe might move to Monday (but perhaps tongue in cheek).

What's your guess?

FOX kept Mob Doctor on the sched for another week to prevent it from being one and done but with all of next weeks competition its a goner. Why would Fox keep a new show that has both low ratings and bad reviews.

    @ Nick said,

    You forgot The Finder.

I like the way you think :) , but I tried to keep it to Mon. shows, or shows that had aired at least once on Mondays. I don’t think that the Finder did.

Drama Damnation sounds great, I would watch that show. Restaurants and hotels are boring.

Get tired of repeating this but fringe started to sink when it lost its high lead in not because of the thursday move. I guess fans dont like hearing this.

That would be really awesome! I remember one time in season 2 that Fringe aired on Monday and got a 2.5 rating while going against Heroes, maybe that was the timeslot that was supposed to work for Fringe, but as you say it’s highly unlikely that such a rating bump would happen if moved to Mondays (though I’d love if happened). For now I stick with the thought that KN is the replacement at 9PM.

    @ John A,

Or it could be that they disagree with you?

9/24 The Mob Doctor’s Last Stand
    10/1 ?
    10/8 ?
    10/15 NLCS game 2
10/22 NLCS game 7 or Presidential Debate
    10/29 World Series game 5

Kitchen Nightmares would fill-in in October.
Touch would get some promotion behind its return on November 5.

@ Bill Gorman… Fox only has 15 hours a week to make money in primetime. Keeping a loser show around prevents them from trying something else that might make them more money.

I’m just asking how this rationale fits into “FRINGE” making it to 5 seasons? Your website predicted for the last 2 years that the show would be canceled, and FOX prexy Kevin Reilly said the show loses them money. Yet it was given miraculous renewals 2 years in a row. It contradicts your reasoning and conventional wisdom. I’m glad for that since I love the show, but it is still contradictory.

Warner Brothers cut their license fee to Fox so low that Fox judged they could make more money with a super cheap Fringe on Friday night than any other available alternative they had.

And for the record, Robert was wrong on Fringe last year, I was not. I predicted that if WB made it cheap enough, Fringe would return, and that’s exactly what happened. Robert figured that WB would not make it so cheap, because he believed they had no reason to, minimum syndication episode numbers having been reached after four seasons. He turned out to be wrong not on Fox’s actions, but on Warner Brothers.

As for two years ago, at least for me, lessons have been learned. Syndication can save shows in their third season and beyond, at what otherwise would be dreadful ratings levels. It doesn’t save shows in their first or second seasons though because the studios do not have the incentive to cut their fees. You and all the other V fans can certainly understand that.

the mob doctor…. that title having heard it, they should have passed it.

oh and they should put Touch on Monday.

  • Eric Schatz

Fox will keep Mob Doctor on the sked through baseball postseason. They are already hard at work developing a reality show to put in the slot, probably some kind of Honey Boo Boo knockoff, except maybe featuring Lindsay Lohan. Maybe a talk show. Wasn’t Mike Douglas usually soused?

  • Deborah

I really liked Mob Doctor. Maybe it will pick up. Hard to believe they are already doing this after one week.

  • Bob Keller

Fringe is, beyond doubt the finest show on television. But could it garner increased audience on Monday? Seems unlikely. Still, it is the showcase series for FOX. Perhaps they should put it in the showcase spot.

  • Bob Keller

BTW, Did any of you watch “The Mob Doctor?” It was terrible. Not to mention it is the silliest concept is the entire history of Network television.

What should happen it that the executive who gave the green light to this nonsensical nightmare should be fired, publicly humiliated and banned from television for life.

  • Carl

    @Bob Keller,

“Not to mention it is the silliest concept is the entire history of Network television.”

It is a bad concept, but “silliest” is a stretch. Don’t forget network television has brought us such gems as “Cop Rock”, “Small Wonder”, and “Cavemen”. Even “silliest concept of this TV season” I’d give to “Animal Hospital” over this.

  • John A

@AO Crazy fans dont want the truth. Plenty of shows switch timeslots and dont Nosedive like fringe did.

  • John A

Anyway fox have been very kind to fringe but it was never going to keep the IDOL lead in. Fans should get over it.

  • David Howell

If there’s this gaping a hole in the schedule on Fox this early, they might want to pick up a new unscripted show – they piloted a game show in the summer (The Chase), that could quite possibly be rushed to series and it wouldn’t overlap much with the Voice/DWTS audiences.

  • John K.

@Bill But isn’t that a cop out? You can say any show “could” be renewed if the studio cuts the fees, and never be wrong. Basically the concept that TV renewal is based only on the “numbers” ie. ratings (more specifically Adults 18-49 demo) is obviously not the only way shows are renewed. I’m not saying you aren’t aware of this, I’m just saying that many believe the site claims to be one that argues a show is renewed or cancelled based on their A18-49 ratings, not cuts from studios.
