Looking at the daily ratings GH actually got up to a 2.0 at the end of the first week in the new time slot! Interesting that the ratings rose after the tainted water storyline wrapped up! The 2.0 rating came on the day of Trey being revealed as Kate’s son and Jason basically piecing together that Sam’s baby was alive interesting

    @ Michele

Oh I know. lol. It means nothing now but I thought it was just pretty great that they were one of the top five most profitable shows in any timeslot at a time when NBC was #1 in Primetime with 20-30 million viewers for their shows. That just goes to show how much of a success DAYS was back in 90’s under James E. Reilly. Why he couldn’t work that same magic at Passions is beyond me. But yes, unfortunately networks are as money hungry now as they ever were. I think some of the reason is primetime. The ratings in primetime have declined so much. People are watching other channels and cable shows. I think that is why networks have folded several soaps, To save them money that they aren’t getting in primetime. I do think though that it is incredible that the soaps still pull 2.5 million live viewers considering there are so many channels to choose from. Plus factoring in SOAPnet, DVRs, and online viewing they are still in pretty good shape considering DAYS is 47 and GH is 50 years old. lol.

I can’t believe noone has mentioned this! I read the new interview today by TVGuide with Josh Griffith Y&R’s new head writer and I have to say I am excited about the future of Y&R!! He mentioned adding a latino element to the show which IMO is needed. I think if Y&R had a very diverse audience that it would help keep the show on the air. I read that the show had a 40-45% African American audience or something like that. If we could throw a latino audience into the mix it would make Y&R more diverse and probably give CBS and SONY yet ANOTHER reason to keep the show on the air, even though Y&R is safe from cancellation. What also excites me is that he mentioned zero-ing in on the CORE families and CORE characters. I will be glad when that happens because I’m tired of watching MAB’s 900 new characters who have NOTHING to do with Y&R. He talked about re-building the Abbott family and re-deeming Sharon and bringing back Jess Walton. It’s a great read! I think any Y&R fan will be excited!

Read JG’s interview and this Y&R fan is hopeful! Looking forward to a return focus on WHAT made Y&R #1.

  • brad

The thing that excites me is that he has a vision for Y&R. We haven’t had someone with a vision for the show in years. I also like how he is going to focus on what made Y&R #1 and he knows the history. I can’t wait for October 12th so we can say buh-bye MAB!!

  • Janeb

What’s happened to Y&R? I have watched this show for years and I never missed it, but I can’t do it anymore. They have ruined it. I DVR, but can’t watch. I just hit delete. I don’t want to give up on it, but I don’t know how they can fix it with the story lines that have been going on.

  • TimsDale4ever

Janeb — I know what you mean but I would love to hear your thoughts on why you can’t watch it. I’m trying to, but it’s difficult sometimes. Lord, I remember stumbling upon this show (thanks to my sister) in the mid 1970’s after it had been on only a few years. To say the show was phenomenal is an understatement. It just didn’t matter what the story was or which character was involved, it was just PERFECTION. Those days for me have been gone since 1989 when Phillip 3rd was killed off and the fabulous Brenda Dickson (Jill) was replaced. Viewers who missed the first half of this 39 year old show just don’t have a clue what excellence was….

I don’t want to start a war with anyone but I really have a hard time actually believing that some of you think with the arrival of Eileen Davidson that DAYS is suddenly going to jump a half to 3/4 of a million viewers. Seriously? Come on…. I don’t even know the character and barely know this show, but no return of any character is going to do that much to the ratings of any show. And by the way, I would LOVE it if I’m wrong…

  • TimsDale4ever

Y&R’s 900 cast members isn’t the only thing imo that is hurting this show. MAB drops (interesting) things CONSTANTLY. Take these 2 examples: When Paul killed his son back in June I believe and he was spending a moment at his grave alone, some women appeared from the back and dropped a necklace on the ground and left before Paul could react. THAT HAS NEVER BEEN REVISITED to date, let alone memtioned. ???? Just last Friday, the show basically ended with a few characters trying to see Daisy in the hospital and when they got to her room she was gone which the nurse quickly said she was picked up by her MOTHER (who viewers know to be dead and was a total nightmare of a character). Now yesterday’s episode came back and NONE of this was further addressed which is what I was waiting for. That is horrible continuity. I know characters can’t be on all episodes all the time, but when one episode ends with a timebomb like that, now is NOT the time to skip this storyline for a few epsodes. How long has MAB been writing? What a joke…

  • Eddie

It’s okay because October 11th get ready!!!! Eileen Davidson’s episodes will start airing on DAYS and rest assured DAYS is about to start rising in the ratings!!!!!!! The best DAYS are ahead!!!

  • Robert

Thank god the Maria Bell era is ending. Y and R will get good again.

  • TimsDale4ever

Does anyone have the day by day total viewer numbers for Katie’s first entire week? Not the rating (1.9, etc) but the actual viewers in millions? All the releases I read say it’s 10% higher than so and so, or 21% higher than Steve Harvey but that doesn’t tell me anything. I don’t know why they can’t put the ACTUAL FIGURE in the release as well. To me, just about everything today is done so stupidly, or a$$ backwards.

  • Mike

I have to agree with those saying its good MAB’s days are soon over at Y&R. I tuned back in right when Phyllis old crimes came out that storyline is great but the rest of it is a mess. How many times has Victor died and come back? I am encouraged by the TV Guide article and am excited to see how Josh Griffith turns this around. Sharon asked the other day, “How did I get here?”, Maria Arena Bell took you there Sweetie. Now Josh to the rescue. :-) Should be fun to watch.

Even though I still enjoy the soaps, the ratings trend over the last 2 decades indicate all of their days are numbered, so I’m just going to keep on watching until I can’t watch anymore. I’m glad GH’s numbers didn’t lose any steam from the previous weeks. Still looking forward to what’s coming. Next few weeks of ratings should be very interesting.

  • John

Thanks Brad for sharing that link. I’m excited about tuning into Y&R again. Hope it isn’t all just lip service. Only thing is, for me, I never accepted Jess Walton as Jill and have always hoped for diva Brenda Dickson to be forgiven and return to the roll. About much chance of that happening as there is of Victoria Rowell coming back.

While he await the ratings for last week to be released today or tomorrow, I thought I would pass along this information…

Although the refrain ‘people are sick and tired of talk shows’ is a popular one here on this board, the networks don’t feel the same way (or aren’t getting the message) as another syndicated daytime talk show is set to join the fray in 2013. Bethenny Frankel of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of…” franchise will get her own talk show next season. Frankel’s show has already had a six week trial run earlier this summer on six Fox owned-and-operated affiliate stations.

If there is any good news about Frankel’s new talker, it is that it will air on Fox affiliated stations and thus not replace any soap.

  • TimsDale4ever

Good news for you GH fans. A new release states that ABC daytime is number 1 in several of those women categories with GH somewhere close to the top with 200,000 women viewers 18-34, although when I think about all the viewers available across the entire country and only 200,000 women 18-34 are watching would scare the crap out of me. That seems pathetic for any show, so I’m a bit confused about what all the jumping up and down is about. Now —— tell me 2,000,000 women 18-34 are watching a show on my network and I’ll jump and down all day long — even naked!

  • JayTN

GH gained about 50,000-60,000 viewers for the week of Sept. 17 (approx. 2.58 million viewers total). However, that is down from the 2.78 million viewers who were watching OLTL one year ago at 2:00 p.m. On the bright side, GH was up about 40,000 viewers when compared to its 3:00 p.m. performance one year ago (week of 9.19.2011).

  • Brad

I hope JFP gets Y&R some new music. They have THE ABSOLUTE CHEESIEST MUSIC!!! It’s the same music they’ve been using for years. The only song that needs to remain is the Nadia’s Theme for the opening segment. Other than that, the normal music for the scenes needs to be shaken up and modernized.

  • David

Great news to see the GH numbers go up in the new time slot! The show continues to be so good! If only one complaint if it turns out Elizabeth swapped those baby DNA results the writers screwed up definitely not something her character would do! Other than that show has been excellent looking forward to Sean Kanan’s return! Go GH keep it up!

  • Robert

Very excited about Y & R future. Loved Josh Griffith’s vision. The good old days are coming back.
