HBO has renewed Treme for an abbreviated fourth and final season according to a report by Dave Walker in The Times-Picayume.  Walker reports that on the eve of the third season premiere that show co-creators David Simon and Eric Overmyer informed cast and crew at a special screening.

“We are going to be back for a season 3.5,” Simon said during pre-screening opening remarks Saturday. “HBO, upon viewing the 10 (season-three episodes) that we gave them and what we’ve done, they want to see the end of the story. They fought very hard to give us half a loaf. We’re going to take it and run.”

Other than that it will be less than 10 episodes, no details yet on just how many episodes the fourth season will have.

Update: Alan Sepinwall contacted David Simon about what exactly "half a loaf" meant and Simon responded that HBO had given them a lump sum for the fourth season and that they are still figuring out how best to use it, but tentatively thinks it will mean four to six more hours (episodes) for the fourth season.

One day I need to check this show out.

    Thank you, HBO.

Once again, HBO shows how a content provider should act towards its customers. I loved the first season of Treme, it was totally excellent. While the second season wasn’t nearly as good, it was still good and better than most stuff on TV.

Thanks HBO, for giving the writers and cast a chance to wrap up the story. And, for doing it before the 3rd season even starts.

Treme is an excellent show. I can’t get enough of the series and hope that HBO considers giving it a full fourth season. I’ve fallen in love with New Orleans thanks to Treme.

It’s great that Treme will get to end its run on its own terms. All things considered, it seems like HBO has been pretty loyal to David Simon throughout his career (for good reason). I’m already anxious to see what he’ll do next.

Lol not many comments nn even cares this was renewed.

  • Steve-A

@John A Do you always have negative things to say?

  • THE OLD MAN

I really enjoyed both seasons of Treme Look forward to season three.

Sorry to see it will be ending w/ an abbreviated fourth season, but agree it will be nice to conclude all the story lines.

Overall, sad to see it go, but enjoyed its brief run. There’s really no other show like it.

    @ John A

D’uh, only 40 posters visited this sight today, a very slow Saturday.

I’m sure there would have been more comments had it been posted Fri w/ over 300 posts.

    Honestly…

@ Steve-A Do you always ask nasty questions? There’s plenty to grouse about on television and John A isn’t the only poster on this site who chooses to make critical remarks. So, deal with it.

  • John A

Not hating on the show its just weird that this has so few comments. I guess the show dont have a huge fanbase.

  • Tom

@ John A I got what you were saying. I’d pretty much forgotten about Treme myself. Apparently so have a lot of viewers. Disappearing Treme for almost 15 months and then cancelling the series before it’s return isn’t exactly a ticket to success. I’m too indifferent to spend time watching a show that HBO has given up on, so I’m passing on Treme this time around.

Don’t kid yourself. The audience for Treme is tiny. Online, on television, or otherwise.

I for 1 will miss Treme but thankful its getting a proper ending unlike Deadwood. It’s getting the same type of renewal the Big C on Showtime is getting. Maybe for his next project David Simon can give us a reboot of The Wire.

  • The End

Fanbase is everything, if Fox renewed Fringe for an unlikely 6th season, or if HBO gave Game of Thrones a 2 back to back seasons renewal, or if Walking Dead Season 4 was 20 episodes, or X Factor was canned, or anything people care about occured, the relevant TVbythenumbers post would have hundreds of comments.

The cancellation of Stargate Universe got more of a reaction here, same with Eureka. Both shows recieved less viewers.

It wouldn’t matter what time of the day it was either, you’d get hundreds of comments here regardless, if people care. Hate to state the obvious.

  • The End My Ass

Of course there is a lack of interest in Treme. There are a lot of morons out there who only watch crap. And don’t you even dare to put Treme in the same category as your lowest common denominator shows.

  • Deborah

    Oh man keep it going!
It is one of the very good shows on today.
Keep Treme, get rid of ” Game of Thrones “.

  • groove365

I love HBO they’re letting the show go out with a real ending even though very few of us watch it.
    Thanks HBO.

    Now make Mayweather Paquio happen.
