How Will NBC's 'Revolution' Hold Up in Week #2? Is it the 'Falling Skies' of the Broadcast World?

Revolution returns for its second episode Monday night on the first official day of the new TV season. That means there will be original scripted competition going up against it  on ABC (Castle) and CBS (Hawaii Five-0).  Show ratings typically go down after the premiere, and the increased competition isn't going to help matters any. But not so fast say the fan boys (and girls): the premiere of Revolution was available online before it aired on TV, the second episode isn't!

Not being the premiere plus facing increased competition strike me as much bigger factors than online availability, so I can't imagine it not going down at least a little. My guess is it drops to at least somewhere around a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating vs. the 4.1 adults 18-49 rating for the premiere. But calling a spade a spade, I was surprised it premiered as well as it did.

At this point I'm wondering whether Revolution turns out to be the Falling Skies of the broadcast network world. That is, a show that consistently draws mostly negative feedback in the comments, even though it's consistently the networks' highest-rated scripted show with young adults!

3.5 is my guess, maybe lower, but not lower than 2.9

CBS all night long cant wait

Probably in the 3.0-3.5 area and will continue to drop thereafter. If it gets a full season it’ll probably be near 2.0 and close to 2.5 by 13 episodes if not. I don’t think it has the potential to hold but maybe half the total viewers it had in the premiere by the shows end.

Like Hawaii and Castle are some huge hits, they only perform well because of good lead-in, Revolution will fall because it is a mediocre show.

  • Tony ^_^

    I say a 3.3.

I say this because it dropped six tenths in the second half hour for its premiere, it will be the second episode (the majority of shows fall in their second episode), and it will have more competition.

Watched Revolution last week, BUT CAStLE IS BACK SO ITS ABC AT 10PM. WHOS WITH ME??

‘Revolution’ should hold up better than the airplanes that came crashing down the moment all power was lost. Ooooooops! In the pilot, the sky of Chicago – and with its O’Hare International – didn’t get lit up like on a 4th of July.

Curiosity: animated 24-hour air traffic over the U.S.:

Kudos to NBC’s marketing department for convincing so many people to watch this turkey with its slick marketing campaign. The commercials were better than the show itself. That being said, I still think RVN is going to follow the Alcatraz trajectory and stay relatively high for the first three episodes & then plunge off a ratings cliff. I think there are enough people who thought the pilot was only “meh” and will tune in tomorrow night to give it one more try. Whether they stick around beyond that is a discussion for next week.

    My guess: 3.4.

Low 3s at best and it will keep dropping in the coming weeks. What an awful pilot.

I think more Once upon a time than falling skies.

i watched REVOLUTION last week an it was just ok for for FALLING SKIES i think it is a better show.but REVOLUTION has only been on one time so we will see.but i am not betting money it will last.

By the way at the moment RVN is much more adventure drama with a lot of action, suspense, love story(Charlie&Nate), thriller, some mistery(blackout) etc. than sci fi show. Let’s see how will go further. (I love Kripke comparison with lord of the rings) Must stay entertaining, simple and easy to follow. Still think that easly will win people choice award for new drama and all teen choice awards for new shows. But hope that is much more for adult and grown up although i get that they target hard the voice younger and teen audience.

I will be trilled if it is greater than a 3.6, but it is going against strong competition on CBS and ABC. On the plus side, it follows NBC’s biggest show in a long time. I will say it gets a 3.1 to 3.5 with a season average of 2.9.

  • tvwatcher

Personally, it’s going to DVR for now. Can’t sit through commercials for this show. It will be DVRed for a while till I see which direction this is going.

There is a Facebook site called Save Revolution Official that was created 5/13/2012. Now that is funny!!!!!!

Perhaps almost as funny as the almost 100,000 people on Save Harry’s Law crying discrimination against the elderly for its cancellation.

Between 3.5 and 3.7. I doubt it will fall much more for just its second episode. The competition is not a great factor IMO, since they are completely different shows.

I’m hoping it does well cause loads of people were very pessimistic last week and it backfired!

Warning SPOILER alert in this post.

By the way interesting picture form RVN fan site(i guess 2 or 3 episodes ahead):

Spoiler Alert: Who Did Rachel Matheson (Elizabeth Mitchell) Kill? (Picture)

After seeing Elizabeth Mitchell on screen again, many fans are curious to know how big of a role Rachel Matheson (Mitchell’s character) will have in the upcoming episodes. With a lot of speculating by the fans and tons of flashbacks confirmed by the producers, we will be seeing Elizabeth plenty more. However, was OR is Elizabeth’s character good or bad? From the spoilerish image below, it looks like we are setting ourselves up for an interesting back story of Rachel Matheson. I’ve got my theories that she’s still alive and the person that she is communicating with Grace on the other end of the computer (from the end of the first episode). With a big name like Elizabeth Mitchell, there’s no way she will only be a character living in the past.

I was amazed that it premiered above a 3.0. I will continue to be amazed each week it stays above a 3.0!

  • Sam

    I’ll be optimistic, 3.6 to 4.0
I’m hoping it won’t be another FF or the event.
