It's Opening Day! Which Broadcast Show Rates Highest on Opening Night? (Poll)

It's the first official day of the 2012-13 broadcast primetime TV season and all networks are airing originals tonight.  On the first night of the season, which show will rate the highest? I put all the shows from the big four in the option. Is it frakking crazy to have The Mob Doctor in the list? Of course it is! But some of our readers are frakking crazy and we strive to be inclusive!

Sure, I left the L.A. Complex off the list, but I'm optimistic that none of our readers are that crazy.  I also left off ESPN's Monday Night Football (Packers-Seahawks) which certainly could best everything on the broadcast networks. That's not to exclude sports fans -- it's just that the new season is really a broadcast networks thing. I know I'll be watching ESPN, but of the many benefits of living in California is the game will start at 5:30p and I'll have plenty of time to decide whether I'm Team-Castle, Team-Hawaii Five-0 or Team-Revolution at 10pm.  In reality, if I'm still awake by then I'll likely catch the Bones recorded earlier on the DVR, but still...

As far as a guess in the poll...I did a coin toss between The Voice and 2 Broke Girls, and 2 Broke Girls won out.

NBC: Voice was really steady, Revolution down ~20%, but that was expected.
    CBS: Partners a flop (4.7 HH out of HIMYM’s 6.2), H50 down a LOT too (5.7 vs 8.2 for last year’s premiere…), but HIMYM/2BG/M&M all did respectfully.
ABC: Dancing and Castle both down ~20-25% vs last year, but Dancing will easily win in viewers.
FOX: Bones decent, The Mob Doctor is beyond resuscitation (2.7 HH out of Bones’ 5.1, down 27% from anemic premiere).

The household overnights are in and CBS is down by 20-27% for it’s shows. ABC and Castle down by 20% and Revolution dropped 20% from the Premiere.

Mob Doctor down by 30% from last week. I hope the cancellation is ready to eat!

They had better fix up the problem with the substitute refs in the NFL or I believe that more people will watch programs on the other networks, while the ratings for football go down. Last night’s game between the Packers and the Seahawks looked as though Frank Drebin called it a touchdown.

    Voice 4.5
    HIMYM 4
    Revolution 3.7
    2 Broke Girls 3.4
    DWTS 2.9
    Mike and Molly 2.9
    Castle 2.2
    Bones 2.2
    Partners 2.2
    Hawaii 5-0 1.8
    Mob Doctor 1.5

Via Sitcoms Online (Note this is only for the top 25 markets)
So much for Hawaii Five-0 beating Revolution!

If those numbers are real…holy crap. I have nothing else to say. That’s just awful for any network not named NBC (and ABC, to some degree).

  • senor chang

I mean, it IS just the top 25 markets, but surely there can’t be that much deviation from thise numbers in other markets, right?

  • Ryan5

Obviously CBS was gonna be down this year on Monday. Last year on Monday was HUGE because of 2.5 Men. Everything benefited from it that night. Where are people finding numbers this early?

  • senor chang

Marc Berman always has overnights up pretty early and 18-49 results begin to leak about an hour before TVBTN’s posts go up.

“I mean, it IS just the top 25 markets, but surely there can’t be that much deviation from thise numbers in other markets, right?”

Traditionally, CBS does better in rural markets. Fox does worse because it has a weaker station line-up outside the top markets.

Wow, you, guys are seriously underestamating DWTS – All Stars. I think it will beat everything, maybe except The Voice.

  • Simon

Again, the source only posts the top 25 markets. Not sure how reliable it actually is.

    @senor chang
The top 25 only make up 49% of the veiwing universe so I’d expect changes with less spread (except Mob Doctor). Nevertheless I’d be suprised if NBC did not take the night…

  • senor chang

Hmmm, interesting. We’ll find out in an hour or less!
    Welcome back, television.
