The Cancellation Bear was going to hibernate until October 2 this year (he's getting on in years, and needs his rest), but the premiere flop of Fox's The Mob Doctor and its certain cancellation has roused him early because the show might already be gone by October 2. He's not happy about being awake already, but the early meal will console him somewhat.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    @ AppleStinx

    It just doesn’t get any better than this! The masses are missing a really good show (or as Sullivan would say: “A Really Good Shoe!”}

    Cool response, Bill. Here’s looking at you!

  • Oliver

    It’s possible Fox might keep Mob Doctor around until after the baseball pre-emptions given the small drop week 2. It’s clearly a matter of when it’s cancelled, not if, though.

    The bear must be hungry after 4 months in hibernation

  • Tyson

    There’s only one reason Fox wouldn’t cancel The Mob Doctor today. Fox doesn’t want to air two episodes of the replacement show knowing a three-week hiatus is coming due to the baseball playoffs.

    Rather than have to promote the replacement show twice (now and again after the World Series), Fox may let The Mob Doctor air episodes three and four. Then the postseason baseball platform can be used to promote the new series that’ll debut in November.

    Well, Kitchen Nightmares only has three episodes leftover from last season. They could use that and then Touch after baseball.

  • DW

    its gone this week or next. they will plug something in there of course but they wont wait til baseball.

    “The bear must be hungry after 4 months in hibernation”

    The bear is always hungry ;)

    Please don”t cancel mob doctors is one of
    My favourite show on Mondae nite!!!!!

  • The End

    After House ended, I think for a lot of people it was too soon for a medical drama show. I mean, House was pretty much the best medical type drama on Fox in what a decade? People just wern’t ready for a low quality medical drama type show trying to take the reigns.

    A new addition for Fan Excuse Bingo! “X canceled show killed it!”

  • Jon23812

    I they’re going to replace it next week.

  • sara

    Fox targeted House fans on twitter with the message “there’s a new doctor in the house”.

    I can’t tell you how much fun it is to tweet back “Not for long”

  • Ultima

    @Nick
    Well, Kitchen Nightmares only has three episodes leftover from last season.

    Where are you getting this from? Kitchen Nightmares aired all of its episodes last season.

  • Nick

    @Ultima

    Fox had episodes planned for Kitchen Nightmares that were bumped for the Finder. They didn’t vanish into thin air, and it’s the only possible reason why KN would air three episodes and then take a 3+ month hiatus. Also, KN hadn’t even filmed its new episodes as of a few weeks ago. There was an ad in the Masterchef finale for people who want to be featured in the new season. They can’t magically produce episodes in 2 weeks.

  • Ike

    @Oliver & @Tyson — they might figure they’d get better ratings with Bones reruns instead. No need to plug in a new show just yet.

    Also, don’t they still have some extra unaired episodes of Bones from last season, or am I confused? (I don’t watch the show.)

  • THE OLD MAN

    @ Ike

    There’s seven shows left from last season (I think) & 19 eps for this year, 26 TTL

  • LordByron

    Well as bad as The Mob Doctor looked, at least it couldn’t possibly be as bad as Work It probably was. But I’m sure The Mob Doctor will be cancelled just as fast…..

  • Ultima

    @Nick
    it’s the only possible reason why KN would air three episodes and then take a 3+ month hiatus.

    Touch not being ready isn’t a possible reason? FOX wanting the encore airing of the first season of Touch to finish airing before premeiring it after baseball is not a possible reason?

    Also, KN hadn’t even filmed its new episodes as of a few weeks ago. There was an ad in the Masterchef finale for people who want to be featured in the new season. They can’t magically produce episodes in 2 weeks.

    Was the ad during MasterChef for people to be on the new season of MasterChef or the new season of Kitchen Nightmares?

    Also, Kitchen Nightmares was renewed in early February. It’s entirely possible they split the development season into two parts.

    Oh how I miss that cuddley little rabble-rouser. Also, it is true that regular people and critics alike said this show would fail. And once again, they were right. I really do look to critics and people who have seen the pilots about a show and whether or not I should watch the show. I don’t want to get invested in something destined to fail. But in this case I wasn’t going to watch anyway.

  • Kaiodn21

    House’s fans should watch Hart of Dixie.
