The Cancellation Bear was going to hibernate until October 2 this year (he's getting on in years, and needs his rest), but the premiere flop of Fox's The Mob Doctor and its certain cancellation has roused him early because the show might already be gone by October 2. He's not happy about being awake already, but the early meal will console him somewhat.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • :oops: - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • :cry: :cry:- more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  • :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

    I thought The Mob Doctor pilot was good enough television, but the ratings have already revealed it’s fate, so what’s the point of watching another episode when there’s plenty of other shows that could keep me occupied for a full season, if not multiple seasons.

  • KJ Styles

    Mob Doctor will get the axe, but I doubt they’ll cancel it next week. I didn’t watch the premiere nor do I plan to, but it had beast competition last night including the “Fail Mary” game last night. I’d give it at least 2-3 more episodes. After all, this is the same network that airs Fringe and kept renewing it with even worse ratings.

    “House was pretty much the best medical type drama on Fox in what a decade?”

    House was the best medical drama of all time IMO. If Hugh Laurie wanted to do another season it’d still be on the air. I think it’s clear that FOX only picked up Mob Doctor as a replacement, but the name of the show alone is an epic fail and makes people not want to watch it.

  • Dan

    @Bill – I’m surprised FOX hasnt axed The Mob Doctor yet. Do you think they will pull it tomorrow or let it air next week?

    Also for those worrying about Raising Hope, it isn’t in any trouble no matter how bad it does. Its 1 season away from getting syndication and since FOX owns it they will give it a fourth year

  • Nick

    @KJ Styles

    but the name of the show alone is an epic fail and makes people not want to watch it.

    I don’t get all of the hate TMD’s name gets. Is it too generic? So what? It’s OK if a show’s name actually jas someyhing to do with the show! And I don’t hear anyone bashing the names of “Revenge” “House, MD” or “Lost”!!!!! All successful shows with extremely boring names.

  • Nick

    @Ultima

    Wow, my brain seems to have been turned off. I forgot about Hotel Hell.

  • Joe

    @Bill

    I don’t comment on this site much, but I’m just wondering. Why do you bother replying to the few people that insult your website? I don’t feel like you need to defend yourself, plus can’t they have their opinions?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    @Joe, mostly for fun. I like to note nonsense when it appears.

  • Emily

    @ nick. The mob doctor isn’t just a generic name, it’s an extremely literal name, that doesn’t really say much about the depth of the show, it doesn’t describe the show (although we now know that’s because there’s nothing there to describe) a name such as ‘glee’ or ‘bones’ describes the content and themes of the show ( ie glee is about a glee club, but also is (was) a very light-hearted gleeful show) the mob doctor does none of that

  • Emily

    Wow fox wow, for the number one network 18-49 your not doing a very good job of looking number 1, you’d best be hoping American idol isn’t down too much, although I do really like your midsession shows

  • CJ

    So long Mob Doctor the next to go will be Vegas , the pilot sucked !

  • JRG

    @sofaslug

    Comments like that make crazy producers/writers/actors blame this site for the cancellation of their show, instead of what really caused it, you know the bad premise/writing/acting.

  • JRG

    Which makes me think, is “TBTN declared the show will be canceled so people stopped watching,” on the bingo excuse card?

  • psychic

    For some reason that blushing face makes me laugh every time I see it.
    The Mob Doctor is terrible.

  • Fed

    @KJ Styles

    Guess you have never heard or watched ER. Now that would be the greatest medical drama of all time.

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

    @JRG, Coming to the center square!

  • a p garcia

    If TMD gets another airing, I hope FOX jumps to the last episode and hope everything is resolved by then!

  • Dan

    The series hasn’t been pulled yet so there’s a few options

    -Since Baseball will come into play on October 15, FOX will air one or two more episodes on October 1 and 8.

    -FOX willl anounce the cancellation today and pull the series entirely.

    -FOX will shift the show to Fridays or Maybe Saturdays at 11 to burn off the remaining episodes.

    Whatever happens, the show wont return in November and hopefully replacements can be announced by then.

    Also Kitchen Nightmares has 16 episodes and no leftovers from last season, even if they did it wouldn’t affect the shows normal schedule should it had aired this fall.

    People that say ratings don’t influence the amount of people that won’t watch a program….. Well I, along with at least millions of people will not watch a show based on its ratings. I for one was looking forward to mob doctor all summer, but obviously its going to get cancellation so why bother watching it?

  • Amber

    I really like Mob Doctor i know its gonna get canceled but im hoping they just move it to Saturdays so they can burn off the eps…..wishful thinking I know.
