How Long Before 'Partners' Is Replaced By 'Rules Of Engagement'? (Poll)

While most of the attention in our comments for Monday night's ratings are focused on other shows, the premiere of CBS's Partners landed with a resounding 2.4 adults 18-49 ratings thud. (cue commenters not understanding that while a 2.4 is a hit on NBC, it's certain death on CBS, remember the cancellation bear)

It's not going to be on the CBS schedule long with that rating.

For a little history lesson, last season How To Be A Gentleman premiered with a 2.7 rating on Thursday at 8:30, followed by a 2.5 rating in its second episode, followed by burn off oblivion.

Just like last season, Rules of Engagement is waiting in the wings to step into the CBS sitcom breach.

But how long will that take?

I’ll go with what history taught us and bet that next week will be its last.

  • DW

    im going before November sweeps.

  • César

    :(

  • César

    Two weeks, 10/8

The show used at least two of the same bits as Will and Grace….They would of done better with a Jack and Karen show!

  • James

It will air one more episode. With tough football competition they’d want a second ratings point just to be certain. It will do poorly in the second outing and it will be replaced by ROE.

With Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother very possibly ending this May, it could be bleak for CBS next year. They may have to move Big Bang back to Monday and just try and secure their Monday night 2 hour block.

I heard the cast of HIMYM have said they would only do next season for silly money. I wonder if by the end of this season then CBS will be comedy starved enough to pay them this silly money.

Partners gets pulled after airing its third episode on October 8. It’s replaced by repeats of 2 Broke Girls for 2-3 weeks while Rules of Engagement accumulates episodes, then Rules airs at 8:30 during November sweeps.

CBS’s other new comedy, Friend Me, takes the slot at midseason. Rules goes back to being filler.

Well that is fair play from tv by the numbers. I must confess that. After FOX bad poll for Mondays now and CBS one. No one network is not preferred, although CNS is number 1 network.

But i think CBS have one more option here. If i am not wrong they still have one more sitcom ro replace it.

  • dkp

I’m guessing they’ll give Partners one more shot next week, then they’ll pull it.

  • cc

Not soon enough. But I said before sweeps.

Only the myopically crazy fanboys/girls think we’re biased for or against specific networks/shows, and you’re not one of those, are you?

“But i think CBS have one more option here. If i am not wrong they still have one more sitcom ro replace it.”

CBS has “Friend Me” scheduled for the spring, but there’s virtually no chance that they bring it into the Fall with ROE ready to go.

I’m saying after the sweeps but I know that I am always wrong. >.>

Partners was ok- i dont find most of the comedys on network tv as funny as the sound tracks they use.

  • Anthony

I think it truly depends on how well it holds. HTBAG had a much bigger lead in than Partners got thus why a 2.7 was so much worse than this 2.4 is. However I do think it will be pulled by sweeps.

  • DenverDean

Hmmm. I wonder if ROE will get additional episodes to cover this mess. It’s really a shame the way CBS has treated the show. (Trust me – I’m not a fan. However, from a business perspective, it has proven to be a great utility player. As I said when the early ratings came out, it’s a good thing CBS didn’t go for eight sitcoms. With TAHM and depending on negotiations with HIMYM, which need to happen fast, CBS may be dropping back to four next season. TBBT, (new comedy), 2BG, M&M.

  • r0ckmypants

@Petar – I don’t think Friend Me has even started filming, so that’s not an option.

  • Luke

One more episode, which will probably be around 2.1, and then TBBT repeats for 10/8 and 10/15, with RoE returning on 10/22.

    Of note…
-CBS will NOT repeat 2BG in the 8:30 slot for two reasons: a) it’d confused some people with it airing newbies at 9, and b) nothing on CBS repeats higher than TBBT, which will give 2BG at 9 a cushier lead-in.
-I do recall that RoE airing after HIMYM a few years ago at times, and it’s ratings weren’t like what they were post-TBBT on Thursdays. That said, if it gets 2.8-3.5, it’s a winner and will get at least 6 more episodes.
-While I hate to say it, it might have been wise for CBS to have ordered 6 episodes of ROB as a backup. It could have turned into another RoE, “the ultimate bench player.”

  • NCJeff

I’m torn, went with two weeks. HIMYM isn’t coming back very strong for its last season. That’s no surprise considering how lousy it got last season. I figure CBS is gonna yank Partners sooner to try and stop erosion of Monday’s ratings.

  • Mark Wood

God , how I wished they moved it yesterday. What an utterly unfunny show, with some of the poorest acting and dialogue I have seen. It was awful.

  • Nick

    Next week. Duh.
