How Long Before 'Partners' Is Replaced By 'Rules Of Engagement'? (Poll)

While most of the attention in our comments for Monday night's ratings are focused on other shows, the premiere of CBS's Partners landed with a resounding 2.4 adults 18-49 ratings thud. (cue commenters not understanding that while a 2.4 is a hit on NBC, it's certain death on CBS, remember the cancellation bear)

It's not going to be on the CBS schedule long with that rating.

For a little history lesson, last season How To Be A Gentleman premiered with a 2.7 rating on Thursday at 8:30, followed by a 2.5 rating in its second episode, followed by burn off oblivion.

Just like last season, Rules of Engagement is waiting in the wings to step into the CBS sitcom breach.

But how long will that take?

@mark wood, what would you know about acting, you wouldn’t know great storytelling if it slapped you in the face!

We might be premature. CBS might decide to put 2 1/2 men back on Mondays and replace it with Rules.

I watched Partners and while it was definitely not GREAT. I don’t think it was that horrible. I believe it gets one more shot and then it’s gone. However, I do think that it has to be noted that the premiere of Dancing with the Stars and The (awful) Voice a scripted show did not have much of a chance last night. Partners could have done better sure, but it had stiff competition – and it was the only show to start at 8:30…when other people were still watching what they put on at 8:00.

Reality is ruining television for scripted shows and it saddens me -.-

” It’s really a shame the way CBS has treated the show. ”

    That refrain always amuses me.

From who’s standpoint was it a shame?

Sony’s? They’ve gotten SEVEN seasons out of a show with middling ratings (for CBS) over the past several seasons. All TV studios would like to have their shows so badly mistreated.

Fans? Actors? Crew? Ditto x 3. SEVEN SEASONS.

Folks who like to propose their own network schedule decisions on internet comment boards? You might have a point there…

“We might be premature. CBS might decide to put 2 1/2 men back on Mondays and replace it with Rules.”

Networks will always choose fewer changes over more numerous changes when reasonably possible.

Internet comment schedulers do not follow the same rules.

By the numbers Partners should be yanked soon. But considering it’s the kind of liberal subject matter the they love pushing on us I wouldn’t be surprised if this show is allowed to hang around until sweeps.

At least Partners received a 2.4, Hawaii Five-O received a 1.9 and is more expensive to produces. It couldn’t even beat that horrible Revolution on NBC, which is the worst acted new show I have seen. This is why people have turned to comedies on cable channels. Let a show find an audience. I don’t invest in any new shows until midseason because everytime I like a show it gets cancelled.

No question that H50 result is bad news for CBS.

If that keeps up (who knows) they’re in the uncomfortable position of having to keep yet another ratings loser (The Good Wife, hello!) on the schedule because of syndication reasons. H50 is already sold into syndication (TNT), but needs 2 more seasons of episodes at least.

Partners has no syndication help to keep it alive. It’s dead.

I could only watch about 10 minutes. What a crappy show. And, can I just say enough with the gay stereotypes already!!

While successful reality shows make take away viewed ( and in general it a fan of reality shows) did you really think this shows merits equalled even average levels. Seen all the primary cast in other projects most in several, did you think they did better here then in earlier work. Same for writing and direction. How about chemistry between friends and loves, did you buy it?

For myself nothing worked on this sitcom. Now in fairness I find few comedies to be truly funny, but most that I have seen ( about a fourth of what gets currently released) even an episode of manage to find some traction some where.

I have to go as far back as the awful homeboys in outer space from the 90’s to find a comedy that for myself did worse.

And this was the comedy I was actually looking forward to watch this season.

And before anyone is offended, I’m a gay man. :)

Before Nov. sweeps, either the 15th or 22nd.

I hope ROE will replace Partners ASAP, but I think it will be within 2 weeks. This show must be CBS’s go to program b/c after 7 seasons did it manage to crack 100 episodes. I would not be surprised if TMD has hours to live.

    A Fan Excuse Bingo classic!

  • Riff Rafferty

However long it is, let’s all hope it’s not “Worst Week” long.

But seriously, I was so tickled pink and so extraordinarily grateful that “Rules” even got this season that CBS can run them 2 at a time in the dregs of August and it’s OK by me.

  • Samunto

Two weeks. They’ll wait to see how it does next week too. And even then, they usually take time to promote a premiere. I say Mid – october though i voted before the sweeps.

  • Ben

Rules of Engagement will replace Partners about as fast as Bob’s Burgers replaced Allan Gregory. (Another dud that aired in between two highly watched shows).
I watched last night’s Hawaii Five-O. I thought it was a very good episode, but, there’s no denying the ratings were terrible and it is an expensive program to film. I am sure it has a few more weeks to get back up to decent numbers. CBS cancelled Unforgettable and then they changed their minds about that show and uncancelled it.
Congratulations NBC! They won and it was a good win, unlike last night’s Packers/Seahawks game.

  • Ram510

Umm Is Rukes of Engagement even in production? Is it even possible for them to air episodes as soon as October?

  • nikki

i think its got a shot.. only one episode has aired. give it a chance.

  • The Original J

Rules of Engagement is the ultimate schedule spackle.
