After feasting on so many NBC shows last season, the week before the official start of the season produced yet another NBC show that the Cancellation Bear is chasing.

The premiere ratings for Up All Night were the lowest of the shows that have already premiered on NBC, but the season has just begun, and its not clear yet where the ratings renewal floor will form for NBC shows. Since it's not a rookie (like Fox's doomed The Mob Doctor) there is little chance the show will be pulled off the schedule before its full 13 episode order airs this season. Once more NBC shows premiere, we'll have a better idea of how bad things look for Up All Night.

The premieres for Revolution, Go On and The New Normal currently place them in the "likely to be renewed" range, but since this is just the first NBC Renew/Cancel Index post of the 2012-13 season many predictions are easily subject to change as more ratings results arrive. Visit each Tuesday for the latest predictions!

Yes, I know there were new NBC scripted episodes aired prior to September 17, I just decided not to include them in my calculations.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ie. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

I’m Rooting for parks and recreation to go up. People get the stick out of your ass and realize how great this show is. And if NBC cancel it some cable network needs to grow a brain and grab it quick.

    Cancellation Bear returns… He’s freakin’ awesome :D .

As a sitcom, the New Normal sucks. As a premise, it sucks even more. Who the hell wants to watch perverts in love, and wanting a baby no less! Bleah!!! Do the right thing, NBC: cancel that piece of crap, pat yourselves on the back for giving a gay (in every sense of the word) sitcom a chance, and then NEVER DO IT AGAIN.

    FemEagle,
Ok….now you NBC is not going to cancel this show for at least 2 seasons to ensure that they give it a fair shake. I almost guarantee they are going to do everything in their power to make it work. That oughta piss you off….lol.

NBC Bring back Harry’s Law!!! instead of Rock Centers

Why Law & Order: SVU is not on the table ?

It will be too bad if Mob Doctor goes down the tubes. Good acting, and a story line that is very versatile. There are a lot of shows I would not watch even if I were paid.
