    Out of everything you wrote, the only thing I take issue with is that ABC won’t move Castle. I actually agree, but I think they *should*. No guts, no glory, and all that. Castle is doing okay-ish in its slot, but it has been said that the Monday at 10 hour on ABC has traditionally been a launching pad for new shows. Well, Castle has been coddled for years. And while it may be a hit/cult hit, it seems dependent on its lead in.

    I’d like ABC to be as gutsy as Fox was with Bones. Yes, Bones now has lower ratings on Monday, but its core audience is loyal. Castle should be put to the test, too. And that leaves the Monday slot for some newer fare.

    And I *like* Castle. But it clearly has never had to challenge itself.

    @Wendy,

    The Castle move is somehow of a non-linear thing. While I agree that the 10pm Monday has traditionally been used as a launching pad for new shows, I think that, given the poor slate of DWTS, it is not a launching pad anymore. If you add up that the ridiculous amount of competition, it certainly becomes a really bad launching spot. So, yes, ABC should have moved Castle, but as for move it now, I have my doubts. I can honestly picture a scenario in which DWTS leave the lineup before Castle is moved…

    This being said, it is indeed a possibility that they decide to move Castle, but only next season. I don’t see why would they move it in favour of Bop, would make no sense (although that decision would have made a lot of sense two years ago). I have been arguing for two years that Castle should be tried out at the Thursdays at 8pmm cursed time slot and I do believe that if Last Resort fails, ABC will finally give Castle a last shot there before cancels it. It’s what you were mentioning. If the loyal fan base is big enough to hold it there, a la Bones, it will probably live a long life there, with low expectations and with moderately low ratings.

    Bottom line: Do I think ABC should move Castle? Not necessarily at this point. Do I think ABC will move Castle during this season? Not at all. Do I think ABC will move Castle next season? Almost guarateed.

    Beating other networks– building your advertising rates and announcing during upfronts the advantages your net has over others– adds nothing to their bottom line?? Tell their sales departments that.

  • Slam

    Of course, they will move Castle. Midseason at the latest. They need that slot for shows not on a downward slide. And ABC has new scheduling chief that has no allegiance to the old shows and strategy.

    @jt
    New girl is mostly all fox has.

    Um, American Idol?

    They also have baseball, football, The X Factor, Bones, Glee, Gordan Ramsay, and the animation domination syndication factory.

    What FOX needs is to do a better job of picking up pilots instead of launching bomb after bomb. A little more faith in their own production company might help.

    @jt
    glee is being inflated by the x factor

    Is that a criticism? You do realize the network’s goal is high ratings and raking in money through synidcation, right?

    What happen to the search bar on this site? I want see the “Chuck Ratings” moniker again.

    @ultima

    1-scripted show wise.

    2 i wrote that just in case someone said glee too

  • Holly

    @JT,

    you should know new girl and happy ending fans don’t like each other.

    Oddly, I’ve never determined whether I liked someone based on a TV show they watch.

  • Holly

    @SJ,

    As for your “ABC is in trouble” shtick, save it. The Middle and Suburgatory might be “cute little shows” but they more than hold their own. Nashville and 666 will likely get the numbers that Revenge was getting last season while Revenge itself will grow now that it’s not on at 10pm anymore. Once should hold its season 1 numbers or rise, while Grey’s will be down slightly. They’ll be just fine.

    I don’t think ABC is in much trouble aside from the problems with DWTS, but I think you are being overly optimistic on their dramas.

    LOL, so according to you I have an internal conflict and dislike myself, hmm, this means I should cut myself now, ok, bye! xD

    Why does everyone think Castle is in such big trouble?
    Castle 2010-2011 ratings average: 2.7
    Castle 2011-2012 ratings average: 2.3

    That’s not even a 15% decline, and mostly because its lead-ins’ ratings were down more! Also, it has a history of improving year-to-year. I’d be surprised if it disn’t make a small comeback this year.
    Castle is not in trouble. It is also more compatible with DWTS and the Bachelor than any other show ABC could find. It’d be a mistake to move it.

    The PR force is strong in this one.

    You’ve been reading (and believing) too many network press releases.

    @Networkman and some others
    I doubt VEGAS is going to die just based on the 1st episode against established dramas ,
    If it were me , I would want to see if the show can establish itself and build. Not sure what is planned for VEGAS but of the writers are smart they are going to let history be their blueprint and let history help them create the script and take it in a linear fashion similar to Mad Men.

  • JT

    That’s not what i meant you clowns lol.

    After responding to your earlier comment I saw this one, and now I understand. You just spout nonsense non-stop.

    Castle is produced by ABC. It’s not going anywhere this season.

  • Cass rowlwland

    abc will be just fine despite dwts

  • Nick

    @Holly

    I don’t think ABC is in much trouble aside from the problems with DWTS, but I think you are being overly optimistic on their dramas.

    I can honestly see every single one of ABC’s new dramas being a moderate success. 666 Park Avenue has a great slot and lots of buzz, but it’s not all good. Nashville and Last Resort have critical and fan love (even adoration), but have kinda limited timeslots. Red Widow is right in the ABC brand, and seems a perfect fit for Body of Proof (could even reshape Tuesdays). And Zero Hour has some critical attention and looks very good, but has little-to-no buzz. Also, ABC is known for putting a lot of effort into their midseason shows (Scandal and Apt 23 would have been canceled if they were in the fall), so ZH and RW could succeed.

    @Joesph A

    I doubt VEGAS is going to die just based on the 1st episode against established dramas ,

    That’s so deluded it’s funny. Parenthood and Private Practice may be “established dramas” but they are no contest for Vegas. Tuesday at 10 is one of the softest timeslots on television, especially for a male-skewing drama.
