    @ Oliver

Tell that to shows like Shark Tank, CSI: NY, and Blue Bloods which do well there. Not all Friday shows fail do kid yourself.

  • Joe

What was the last tv drama series to improve upon it’s premiere ratings?

  • Bill

Wow, Grey’s Anatomy is doing great for a ninth season. Hopefully it can hold on to those numbers. If only ABC had the post-superbowl slot—they could give GA a huge ratings boost. Scandal isn’t gonna make it; bad move replacing PP with Scandal.

  • Eddy

    @ Greg

I don’t think they should go through with it either. As a matter of fact any Thursday comedy plans need to be wiped off.

  • SJ

    @Joe

    GCB, last March.

  • Wendy

NBC Thursday is still TVs number one night for comedy

    @Dinaminjo
Networks must have a “plan B” because they can’t expect all their shows to do well. They know they will have to cancel sth so they must already have a show or two on “standby”

I didn’t say they didn’t have a plan B, I even suggested what I think it might be.

However, it most likely doesn’t involve launching a new show, because they would have to forego any significant advertising campaign.

Does anyone have an example of a show not scheduled for the fall that was quickly launched as a replacement being successful in the past decade?

    I can’t think of any.

    @ SG,

    Soon… LOL..

At the way NBC is handling the show (with two cycles this year), they risk it becoming another DWTS in a year’s time….. I really feel these type of shows work best when seen only once a year (see Survivor, BigBro, and Amazing Race). A couple a years ago DWTS was doing 5s in the demo, now that it went to two cycles it is down to 2.5s. I expect something like that to happen to the Voice..

There is also the risk of pissing of Fox with such a move…. If NBC did that, I, if I were a Fox exec, launch Idol against the Voice on Monday or Tuesday. Idol might be older, but it can do serious damage to the Voice.

Good for Grey’s. I also enjoyed Scandal as well. Glad they are back for the new season.

every time fox has led out with animation it failed.

New girl will get it just like friends and glee did.

flinstones won’t premiere until like 2015

    “@The End
Predicting we’l sadly see some series lows with Two and a Half Men over the course of the season.

And you make it sound like series lows are unusual, when in fact they are the rule rather than the exception in broadcast.

  • Dinaminjo

Let’s get sth straight: Grey is doing “great” because of the summer buzz from season 8. 2-3 major characters dying / leaving / having their legs cut off is enough for people to want to tune in and see why and how..

Now, they did a brilliant move doing the “why” episode after the “how” because that way they will keep great ratings 3.6-4.0 next week.

After that it will be business as usually meaning a 3.0+ episode to see how the new characters fit in, with 2.5-3.0 the remainder of the season.

If I were NBC, I would see how Revolution performs over the next six weeks. If it holds in the 3s, I would be very tempted to move it to Thursday and use it to anchor the night…..

It is crazy, but sometimes it is a risk you have to take….

    @ Bill

When do you guys update the “renew/cancel index” thing? at the end of every week I assume?

  • http://tvbythenumbers.com Bill Gorman

“When do you guys update the “renew/cancel index” thing? at the end of every week I assume?”

    Tuesdays.

The Nielsen week is Monday-Sunday and final ratings for Sunday shows do not arrive until Tuesday AM.

Scandal is a Quality Show People Should Start Getting Into It
I think it will stick around for a bit
Grey’s Anatomy /Scandal is a good solid combination

I know everyone hates Shonda for whatever reason, but I personally thought last night’s Greys was good. The only thing that bothered me was that it wasn’t the second episode of the season (ie they decided to address what happened after the plane crash after this episode instead of addressing it in the season premiere).

I loved Medusa and BCB, I loved that all the new cast members are first year interns, and I loved how they handled Mark’s goodbye.

Glee on the other hand was complete garbage. Can I just address how unrealistic Rachel’s and Kurt’s lives have been in Nyada? No one goes from being emotionally scared of moving to New York to becoming #1 intern at a fashion agency and best friends with the boos within the span of two episodes. The pace is just way too fast and it feels like everything’s being rushed. If they’re going to rush it, at least show that Rachel and Kurt are struggling to catch up instead of having them act like nothing’s happened.

Also, the McKinley side has just been so terribly written, it’s like the writers grabbed some elementary school students and asked them to write what they think happens in high school. The debate was so boring, music choices were terrible, and do I even need to bring up how OOC Sam’s “what does debate mean?” line was?

Last Resort I have yet to watch, but I heard good things about it and am really excited to watch the episode.

    @Ultima
    ok.

    and to the rest:
As much as I love Community, they are not going to move it from friday, not that a move would do it much good.

They are more likely to move Whitney is season 2 for a second shot than a show that while establishing a loyal fanbase in 3 seasons didn’t establish a large fanbase.

  • Tony ^_^

I doubt “Glee” will be cancelled this season. Unless it continues to fall…

    FOX Scripted Show Averages:
    New Girl- 2.8
    Glee- 2.8
    Mindy Project- 2.4
    Bones- 2.3
    Ben and Kate- 2.1
    The Mob Doctor- 1.4

  • Eddy

    @ jT

Except what football fans are actually going to be watching New Girl after the Super Bowl? They better just go with the series premiere of The Flinstones or another new series. I would’ve said X Factor but it only airs in the fall.
