Sean…why do you have to be so nasty and resort to name calling? If someone had responded to your comment by saying “get a life” or “get your head out of your @$$”, you would probably be huffing and puffing and jumping up and down while protesting that “I’m being attacked for giving my opinion”, blah, blah, blah. I’m not trying to re-ignite any fiery debate from the past, but Sean’s response is a perfect example of people paying lip service to ‘respecting’ other people’s opinions, yet don’t really practice that ‘respect’.

Personally, Sean, I think you are the one who is dreaming if you think that GH is “NEVER” going off the air. I can guarantee that every television series is going to get canceled at some point in time. Now, it may not be in April 2012, or even April 2022…but GH will eventually get canceled. See, that’s the problem with making bold, declarative, ‘no wiggle-room’ statements like “GH is NEVER going off” that make people look clueless at best and stupid at worst. If you get offended, oh well…

  • Robert

Hopefully The Young and The Restless will rise.

  • Fakeem

Did anyone notice that on Y&R, the pic “Lauren” showed the doctor of “Sheila Carter” has her hair dark blond, when for all of her previous runs on the show, she had Jet Black hair? Does this mean they are FINALLY bringing back Kimberlyn [sp]? I’ve been waiting YEARS, for her return. I may go back to watching Y&R live instead of on tape if she’s back.

  • TimsDale4ever

Y&R repeats storylines ALOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT also — and that’s NOT a compliment to the show. Victor just returned to GC again after disappearing for awhile, and I believe this sl has been done several times already. Each time he disappeared, he would meet and marry a new women. This time he met an older nun and I wondered if she was going to be the next Mrs. Newman — lol. I quit watching this show years ago because the CONSTANT triangle between Phyllis/NICK/Sharon drove me crazy. He was back and forth to the other one every few months divorcing and remarrying constantly each time the other one p!ssed him off, professing that “she” was the love of his life now. Beyond ridiculous. Jack falls in love each time a women looks at him for move than 2 seconds and suddenly THAT women is the LOVE OF HIS LIFE as well. I’ve been watching the show again fairly regularly again, and I believe in that short amount of time he has been married or has been right up to the alter 3, yes 3 times — all the while claiming each of these women is the LOVE OF HIS LIFE. So stupid. Why can’t these writers come up with new sitations? Is this why the soaps are failing? They’re all stuck in the “been there, done that” mode and can’t get out of it?

I remember Kim & Bob and Lily & Holden from ATWT when couples were truly portrayed as being in love and were endeared to each other for many, many years. That concept is sorely lacking in today’s shows.

  • TimsDale4ever

Wouldn’t that be a hoot, Fakeem? I don’t think they’re going there though. When I was watching the last year of OLTL, Miss Brown played a judge for a few episodes during one of their trials and I just about fell over. She looked GREAT, and obviously is not against doing daytime anymore. I think Paul’s nutty sister, Patty, is the one that got Daisy out of the hospital though. They’ve already had Sheila return before and was shot and then died, then they had her sister show up in 2009 or 2010 to continue the vendetta so I think this too has been done to death already — although, with the BRILLIANT Kimberlin, I would totally swallow my disbelief to go through another wild ride with that character again, which oddly to me was the LAST great storyine this show has done — and that was 20 years ago, right?

  • Alida

Interesting to hear the negatives about DOOL. I have been watching off and on since I was 16 and that was a VERY long time ago. I actually think its getting better. I want to give these new writers a chance, I hope the network does too!!!!

  • Jennifer

I’m not too worried because next week Eileen Davidson returns to DAYS!! I can hardly wait! Some fans have been waiting on this for a loooong time! Including myself. If DAYS comes in below a 2.1 I would be very surprised, because this creates hype for a huge storyline almost a continuation of where it left off in 1998. In addition she is a very versatile actress not only playing Kristen Blake Dimera but also the wacky Susan who I would love to see in some episodes with Deidre Hall aka Dr Marlena Evans. B&B and GH watch out!! DAYS is going to see a resurgence very very soon!!!!!

  • Debsafan

That age group of women are mostly at work. Over 60 is who you ought to be counting. We watch all the soaps and most of us don’t work. With all that said. As much as I love my soaps, they have been dull and every story line on every soap has been done over and over again. Just with different people. Also the soaps mean well, but I get tired of the gay story line being push down my throat, on soaps and on the new shows.

  • Eddie

“Jennifer” You are right! Days of Our Lives will see at least a mediocre if not very god increase over the next few weeks and November sweeps due to Eileen Davidson’s return on October 11th. My suggestion for DAYS would be to bring the Susan character back “full circle” within a month or two after Kristem arrives in Salem. When Eileen left DAYS the numbers started to fall off pretty badly and fans have been screaming for these characters to return for a very long 14 years now!! This can only make Days Of Our Lives competitive with GH and B&B now, I agree I think we will see DAYS back around 2.1 but if Susan Banks, EJ’s mother , is brought back into the mix, DAYS could see numbers upwards of 2.3 and 2.4’s easily!! I’m too worried about DAYS right now, lets wait until after November and see where the numbers fit in!

  • cc

As long as Days continues to keep EJ and Sami front and center, ratings aren’t going anywhere. With or without Kristen, Stefano and a few others. It’s like TIIC think Sami is the only interesting character in all of Salem and must be seen, heard or mentioned every day.

Happy to see GH continue to improve. An hour that goes by too fast.

  • Katie

I disagree CC, I agree more with Eddie’s post, I am one of those fams who quit watching every day of DAYS about 10 years ago, the writing was just not as interesting but I do tune in about once a week to see what is happening in Salem. However when I heard Eileen Davidson was reprising her roles I can assure you !!!!!!!……that I will not be watching GH but will have my butt parked on NBC everyday because that particular storyline is probably one of my top 3 of all time of any soap! I am so excited about her return next week and I will be wtaching as much as possible. I have been watching soaps since 1973 when Y & R came on the air and watched DAYS and Y&R daily. I am looking forward to see what Kristen/Susan do to turn Salem on it’s head!!

  • Ashley

No offense to the Kristen/Susan fans but DOOL needs to increase in its demo. I’m not sure she’s going to affect that.

DOOL’s problem is that they don’t have a cast of younger family members built up to take over for the veterans. Belle, Shawn, Phillip and Chloe were popular. But when they returned the OOC writing destroyed all of these characters.

Sami cannot carry DOOL by herself. TPTB don’t seem to get that.

  • LynTX

@Ashley, agree that if you were not watching 14-15 years ago, Kristen/Susan may not draw ‘new’ viewers. But hopefully this will bring back lapsed viewers. Not sure of impact to key demos however.

Although I am not a regular viewer (find the plots are all about “who will hook up with who” v.2.0) I do hope Kristen (and Chloe/Eric’s return)will be positive for DOOL.

Now, hoping for some JG magic on Y&R!

  • Chrisann D

I am actually enjoying 3 out of the 4 soaps. The only one I am having a hard time with is B&B. Still so tired of Hope/Liam/Stephie triangle.
As far as someone saying that the soaps are “shoving the gay storyline” down viewers throats…..I don’t see that at all. Days is the only one that is showing a “gay story” and it is very well done. I really like Will and Sonny together. My favorite soap is GH and it has only been since the new writers started that it has been the best I can remember it being. I hope all the soaps can rise in viewership. We need them on to break up the endless talk shows. Sooooo Gooooooooo Soaps!!

Goodbye, DOOL! They can’t get above a .7

Looks like you are excited about that Ashley. Why do people get off of other Soaps fading? Weird!

  • joshua

Why doesn’t the network realize that men are watching and get ads for men and not just for tampons. Uhg.

  • joshua

Btw Days could get above a .7 is they would stop telling the same old stuff or if they do make marlana into the devil again. I would watch. Lol

  • Sara

‘I like this show’ what i said and i STAND BY IT is that Sami and Ej ARE NOT THE PROBLEM at Days, it is boring and usueless characters like Rafe and other Hernandezzzzzzzzzzzz (zzzzzz to say the least), ratings dropped when once again these awful writers decided to prop them like hell, in the process destroying CHORE, interesting and usually multi-layered characters like Sami or Jen by pairing them with these awful ‘pets’..it is boring, disgusting and people (at least important demo target, and i am among them) who matter for the ratings ARE BORED and fed up with this lame storytelling and awful lame characters front burner !!!!!!!!! And yep GH at least is more entertaining and deserves their up in ratings.

  • Sara

And CC to prove my point last August and last november Days ratings were UP like it had not been the case for a longgggggggggggg time and SAMI and EJ were front center so your little theory about them and ratings is INNACURATE, find other types of characters and stories to target if you want to be credible, please. EYEROLL.

@DebsaFan, @ChrisannD, IMO, DAYS is pushing the gay agenda down everybody’s throat. Chrisann, you and I (and some others) went round-and-round on this subject when the gay storyline first appeared on DAYS. I said it would be “preachy” and anybody who objected to the gay lifestyle would be made to look bad, while the gays would appear “saintly”. I have to admit I was wrong about Will, he has been presented as a multi-faceted guy, but Sonny has yet to make a wrong move. But the characters on DAYS who object to Will being gay have been scarce. NOBODY objects! Except for “T”, and Lucas recently expressed some discomfort, but Adrienne immediately jumped on him and called him a “bigot”! Yep, in this world, you are either totally accepting, welcoming, ready to join the gay pride parade, OR you’re a homophobic bigot. There is no middle ground. Never mind that this is a small town in the heart of the Bible Belt, where most of the residents are Catholic. They ALL embrace gayness! In fact, the attitude is “if you think there’s anything wrong with being gay, YOU are an ignorant, homophobic bigot!” No wonder people who believe in the Bible (like me) are turning this show off.
