Due to the nature of live  programming the ratings for NBC (NFL Football), & FOX/CBS (NFL Overruns) are approximate and subject to more than the typical adjustments in the final numbers. See below for more information on these Fast Affiliate Ratings.

NBC was number one among adults 18-49  and with total viewers.

On NBC, Sunday Night Football (Giants/Eagles)  from 8:30-11:00PM earned a 8.1 adults 18-49  rating, matching last week's 8.1 18-49 fast national rating.

On FOX, the season premiere of The Simpsons earned a 3.7 adults 18-49 rating, down 5% from a 3.9 for last season's premiere on September 25, 2011. Bob's Burgers scored a 2.5 among adults 18-49, up 32% from a 1.9 for last season's premiere on March 11, 2012. Family Guy premiered to a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating, down 20% from a 4.1 for last season's premiere on September 25, 2011. The premiere of American Dad garnered a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, down 20% from a 3.0 for last season's premiere on September 25, 2011.

On ABC, the season premiere of Once Upon A Time garnered a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating, down 5% from a 4.0 adults 18-49 rating  for its series premiere on October 23, 2011.Most of your predictions were right.  Revenge premiered to a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating, down 3% from a 3.3 for its series premiere on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 and matching the performance of last season's Desperate Housewives premiere in the time period on September 25, 2011. It ranked as the show's second highest rated episode ever among adults 18-49. The series premiere of 666 Park Avenue scored a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating, down 29% from a 3.1 for Pan Am's series premiere on September 25, 2011.

On CBS, the season premiere of 60 Minutes earned a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, down 22% from a 2.3 for the previous season premiere on September 25, 2011. The Amazing Race season premiere scored a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating, down 17% from a 3.0 for last fall's season premiere on September 25, 201 and tying its lowest rated premiere ever1. The season premiere of The Good Wife garnered a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, down 18% from a 2.2 for last season's premiere on September 25, 2011 and ranking as its lowest rated premiere ever. The Mentalist premiered to a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 25% from a 2.8 for last season's premiere on Thursday, September 22, 2011 and down 9%  from CSI Miami's 2.3 in the timer period for its season premiere on September 25, 2011.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    it’s not a CBS production so they don’t make as much money off it (if at all. Can someone clarify that?

    They make none. Warner Bros. produces The Mentalist and makes all of the money in distributing it (including to CBS, whose only revenue from the show is from selling time to advertisers).

    @Ultima – Here’s a reason, maybe CBS could cancel four dramas (CSI NY, Good Wife, Made In Jersey, Golden Boy) In my theory Made In Jersey will be pulled soon and Golden Boy will likely take the time slot with Undercover Boss serving as a bridge. Thats 3 slots for the fall but four dramas. My guess is also that Elementary and Vegas may both be kept but if one gets cancelled its always possible that CBS schedules 4 new dramas next fall or 3 dramas and a reality series. They always schedule 3 dramas for fall and the last few years they had a lot of bubble dramas (both CSI spinoffs, as well as Good Wife) The difference this year is that with Miami gone and CSI NY premiering low we know for a fact that the show’s fate is sealed in May 2013 after escaping cancellation twice.

    @Slam – If no one is buying The Good Wife in Season 4 and it gets dreadful ratings (the lowest for a non friday drama) then CBS is cancelling it. It maybe critically acclaimed but you can’t but an emmy in the bank. Hopefully CBS will wrap this one up nicely by May.

    @Ricky – You’re right. The Mentalist is owned by WB so CBS doesn’t make money off syndication yet it built off Good Wife and still holds up in its fifth year so we shouldn’t count the show out yet for 2013-2014.

    “To anchor a night means to put it at the most necessary hour of the night. 9pm is the most competitive on most any night. For ABC to have a weaker show at 9 for the first time in years is a problem.”

    CBS leaves its Tuesday anchor show NCIS at 8. ABC will not be moving Once Upon a Time, a show that can self-start itself. ABC has bigger problems than worrying about something so ridiculous.

    Nah, more viewers at 9pm, and therefore better ratings, for a show they own and are trying to sell into syndication. The Mentalist is a WB show, CBS isn’t getting any syndication money for it.

    I believe you may be arguing while agreeing.

    Those four drama only take up 3 Fall schedule hours.CBS typically cancels as many dramas as it takes to clear three hours for Fall drama premieres. Canceling those four dramas you listed would be “typical” for them over the past several seasons.

    Nah, we know absolutely nothing about network development prospects and yet our predictions are very accurate season after season.

    That indicates to me it’s almost exactly the other way around. Networks cancel their low rated shows, and then fill in with the best of what’s available in development. Only in edge cases might what’s in development influence the renewal or cancellation of a marginal show.

    @Ultima – CBS makes no money off syndication for Mentalist yet its still a strong show holding up a weak Good Wife lead in compared to 666 Park Avenue’s strong Revenge lead in. The Mentalist never needed to be propped up for syndication like The Good Wife because guess what, it was always a well performer even though numbers have gone down.

    @Slam – I agree you need a strong show at 9pm because thats the most important timeslot and usually the highest rated. However OUAT worked at 8 so why mess something that worked (look at NBC’s Grimm) and ABC must have thought that the freshman winner Revenge would be a good fit for the recently vacted 9pmn Sunday slot that previously held DH for 8 seasons. Scheduling OUAT then Revenge then 666 was a smart move, even if 666 doesnt work out, there will always be something new to replace it. For CBS however they made a mistake putting the low rated Good Wife at 9 followed by The Mentalist. I know CBS wants Good Wife to succeed but after 4 low rated seasons, its over. Shows will always be cancelled and for CBS there will always be at least 3 new dramas for the fall. That won’t ever change.

    I thought 666PA was pretty good…it started out at a slow pace but I like it enough to keep watching (I only have it on my watch list because of Terry O’Quinn). The title is not too great, sure – “The Drake” would have been better, as some suggested. OUAT was fun, and BBurgers was hilarious (that little girl, Louise with the bunny ears, gets the best lines). Watched them all online today (except for the two OUATs live last night).

    At least The Good Wife has been consistant with its numbers from Season 3 -> Current season. It has retained its audience, even if it isn’t hugely popular. It still is pretty solid and has pretty much hit its level on a Sunday.

    OUAT came out on top. Revenge looks great; 666 Park didn’t hit it out the park and I’m kind of sadden by that. ABC heavily advertised them with Revenge. Everything from Lexus commercials to the whole sequence of them with OUAT and Revenge. I saw ads on Youtube and Yahoo about ABC Sunday Lineup.

    That’s unfortunate but I don’t think its dead on arrival or in the can. If it stays the same, ABC would have reason to keep it.
    As a whole, I can’t think of any 10pm show on ABC that is really knocking it out of the park. They all are staying steady within their time slot. Castle, Private Practice, Scandal and now 666 Park are not doing the worst but they are just there in the timeslot; not bad so to speak but not exactly good either.

    I don’t know what’s up with ABC’s 10pm slot. Their 8pm slot is the slot from hell for a new show (depending on the day) and 9pm seems to be one of the more fruitful while 10pm just stays steady and keeps up.

    You’ve managed to completely miss my point.

    You’re assuming that CSI:NY and The Good Wife are certain cancellations and that if they only have one successful freshman drama, they will need four hours of new shows in the fall.

    I think that’s the wrong way to look at it.

    They may decide to add an additional reality hour (there’s a good argument for this based on Undercover Boss’ performance relative to Friday dramas), but many of us argued that they would go with a fourth hour of sitcoms this year based on the strength of the comedy lineup. They didn’t because their sitcom pilots were dreadful. Given that they’ve had one successful new reality series in the past decade, they may decide not to change anything until they find a hit with a limited run series.

    They may decide that they want to launch four dramas in the fall, but if their pilots aren’t strong enough, they won’t (they might not even be thinking about it – when was the last time they had four new fall dramas?).

    Therefore, if they only go with three new hours of programs in the fall, then it is very unlikely they would cancel all four of Vegas, The Good Wife, CSI:NY and Golden Boy (MiJ is obviously DOA).

    And because you cannot assume renewal for a new series this early in the season, it’s likewise far too early to be claiming certain cancellation for both The Good Wife and CSI:NY.

    @The End – The Good Wife has consistently gone down in numbers each season.

    @Bill – I am agreeing and stating my point that cancelling those four dramas would make CBS have 3 drama slots open next fall. I am also stating that unlike last season and the season before where it was so hard to pick which veteran dramas would be cancelled, this season its actually easy. Remember Sunglasses Vs. Sinise and how hard it was to figure between NY and Miami, then CBS axed the older CSI Miami to a lot of people’s surprise but not shock and now its easy. Made in Jersey is DOA, that’s one cancellation and I can’t imagine an “A Gifted Man” 16 episode situation happening to that series, CSI NY after surviving the past two seasons is now likely to be put to rest. The Good Wife has 4 seasons, 90 episodes and still no syndication deal so what reason is there to keep it around after May. Golden Boy hasnt even premiered but you cant argue that its pretty much Miami Medical/CHAOS/NYC 22 all over again.

    @Ultima – I’m assuming cancellations for a few reasons. Since CBS always cancels veteran dramas the lowest rated are CSI NY and The Good Wife. I’m assuming based on past years what will happen because CBS is predictable. The last time they had 4 new fall dramas was 2006 however if the pilots are good things can change and its always better to have more new dramas then to keep old dramas that are wasting money. May 2010 was a slaughterhouse for veteran dramas where CBS got rid of Numb3rs, Cold Case and surprisingly Ghost Whisperer in addition to freshman dramas Miami Medical and Three Rivers. They could do this because they had 3 new dramas for the fall and Undercover Boss. CBS could try something new for fridays next season but my argument stands that every year CBS cancels 3 low rated drama series.

    You’re still missing the cause and effect.

    Cause – CBS had two successful freshman dramas (NCIS:LA and The Good Wife) as well as their first successful reality series in a long time (Undercover Boss).

    Effect – They had to cancel three veteran dramas to make room for them on the fall schedule.

    Don’t try and draw conclusions from the number of freshman dramas being canceled. Instead, look at the number of new series being renewed that need space on the fall schedule. If you assume the number of drama premieres is consistent (which is a good assumption for CBS), then you can determine how many veteran series they must cancel.

    You can’t assume that CSI:NY and The Good Wife will both be canceled because at this point there’s nothing that would cause that to happen (at least with new shows – it’s possible they actual reach the point of not being profitable at all, but we don’t know and can’t assume that).

    I feel bad for ABC. They haven’t had huge ratings in the Sunday 10pm slot since Grey’s Anatomy in 2005-2006. Brothers & Sisters was ok, but not great.

    How about the fact that 100+ makes for a more attractive sell, especially if the series is still airing? The process of selling a series into syndication requires a sales pitch — 88 sounds great. 100+ sounds better. Still airing new episodes sounds better. Good word of mouth sounds better (critical/audience acclaim). I’m going to guess they hold onto it but not on Sundays. Not next year.

    1.8 isn’t great for Sun-Thurs, but it’s just fine for Fridays on CBS — and probably about all anyone can hope to achieve on broadcast for scripted series. It was on the low end 1-2 years back but last season CBS had Blue Bloods and CSI: NY were averaging high 1’s last season… and usually beating the competition. Grimm makes money for NBC at 1.6. TGW also proved with the move to Sunday that it has an audience that will follow it. CBS can be fairly certain it will maintain whatever audience it has on Fridays.

    CBS doesn’t have to make any room yet. We don’t know how the season will play out.

    I wouldn’t feel too bad for ABC; they’re doing gangbusters on Sundays from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST; they’re just struggling to find something that works from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm EST. But all of the broadcast networks are struggling to find something that works at 10:00 pm EST. You can say they’re getting beaten by cable; then again, you can say they’re getting beaten by the FOX/CW affiliates who air local news during that time, which lets viewers catch up on the late news and weather before going to bed.

    But ABC is fine to counterprogram with female-friendly programming, since NBC has football through the fall and Fox has its animation lineup which skews male.

    666 Park Ave. was awesome! Upset to see it didn’t do better. Maybe there will be a word of mouth gain. It was a really good show!!
