Tying the lowest rated CBS drama premiere ever (Chaos, Spring 2011), Made In Jersey flopped out of the gate at 9pm Friday night with just a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating, 21% below the now canceled A Gifted Man's 8pm start last season. Because of that, it's certain to be canceled by the end of the season. The only question now is how long it lasts on CBS's schedule.

Prior to 2009, CBS was in the habit of canceling their lowest rated drama before November sweeps, but hasn't done that in the last three years. Last season's Friday rookie, A Gifted Man, lasted 16 episodes (until early March) on CBS's schedule. The extra three episode order to fill time before the NCAA tournament caused showrunner Neal Baer to foolishly taunt us. Feel free to guess when CBS moves MIJ off its schedule in the comments or whether the MIJ showrunner will choose to taunt us. We can only hope.

Since CBS typically cancels its lowest rated sitcom each season, rookie sitcom Partners doesn't have much of a life expectancy either, it's almost certain to be replaced by Rules of Engagement at some point, perhaps sooner rather than later, but you can make your own guesses in the comments.

Could Vegas become the next Unforgettable? With or without the un-cancellation?

Is this the year another CSI bites the dust?

Did the move to 10pm Sunday kill The Mentalist?

After suffering through years of terrible ratings, will The Good Wife *finally* be sold into syndication by CBS? Will that mean the end of its run on broadcast?

These and lots more questions (and I hope answers!) coming in the weeks ahead.

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

Notes:

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

Gonna be interesting season for CBS looks like their in for some trouble. I think their gonna go back to 1 day for comedies because it seems like this will be Two and a Half Mens last season based on everything I’ve heard plus it dropped HARD from last year and from its lead in Big Bang. I could also see them getting rid of Partners and possibly How I Met your mother since the creators have said they would be happy with this being the last season and if its ratings aren’t amazing then i can’t see CBS renewing it early which is what the creators need. If that happens then That leaves their schedule for Big Bang at 8, New Comedy, 2 Broke Girls at 9 and Mike and Molly at 9:30.

Now with CBS dramas that’s another worry for them. Hawaii 5-0 looks dead unless it somehow makes a come back. It’s in the low 2′s high 1′s which for cbs is terrible and in general is not good. Only thing is Syndication. This will also likely be Good Wife’s last season since it will reach Syndication this year. Mentalist looks like a goner as well with its new move and new ratings. Hopefully Vegas and Elementary hold up but I have a feeling at least 1 will decline. CBS is losing steam and they need to pick up the slack. They really need some new fresh dramas. Hopefully they have some midseason shows up their sleave

they need to bring back Pan Am.

MIJ was awful. The crime that was investigated was ridiculous and if they were trying to duplicate Marisa Tomei’s character in My Cousin Vinny, they failed. The lead’s hair took over the show. I could not get past it. It is poorly written, poorly directed and poorly acted. I love New York filmed shows and had high hopes for this one. I think they chose the wrong actress for the lead character. Her accent isn’t even a Jersey accent, it’s a NY accent. Very disappointing.

Person of interest will be with the best retention ever after super bowl in history of that slot. No one other tv show(sitcom or drama) on broadcast network is so much male skewed. After football was over(last season) all shows start droping in the spring only PoI start hit its best ratings. Super Bowl will make PoI 4+ in demo hit drama. From there CBS can move PoI in wednesday at 8 as new anchor drama(like NCIS) after it POI spin-off(with female lead) and in 10 CM.

  • NJLeeLee

They also tried to replicate Sooki from The Jersey Shore’s hair poof! Another silly idea.

i LOVED partners’ second episode. i’ll be so bummed if it’s cancelled so soon.

  • brutony

Fuhgeddaboudit! What was this show “Made in Jersey”- AKA “The Jersey Shore Goes to Court?” REALLY?

  • Riff Rafferty

That depends. Have Ed Redlich, John Bellucci, Matt Gross and Chris Murphey taunted you yet? Because if they haven’t… well, they really should. In fact, I’m thinking of sending them a link and asking them to taunt you.

And, no, of course not. KoMut aren’t gonna taunt you. Not under their own names. But their shills/agent “Truthman”, “eyechart” and “mytwocents” (which isn’t even worth that much), well, now that’s another story. Because “Partners” is a “spot-on” comedy from a “hot” director that “killed” at the table read — and don’t you forget it!

  • Riff Rafferty

Personally, I think Over & Out or Super Fun Night should have been picked up by CBS, Partners is just a dreadful show.

I only saw 1 of CBS’ unsold comedy pilots (couldn’t get my hands on most of the others and never got around to watching the second one we did get), but still, I’d really like to know what dirt the two losers who ‘created’ “Partners” have on poor Les and Nina to have gotten this mess on the air over that one. Not even getting into the fact that it was stolen, the show is literally unwatchable. I don’t even know what Burrows is trying to do with the direction. Does anyone? Is he aiming for a screwball feel? Is that it? Because he’s not succeeding. Unless making me think CBS accidentally ran the tapes at 2x speed is success.

I think the only positive attribute is that the main title design is decent. After the laughable main titles on “$#!+ My Dad Says” — with William Shatner’s giant head swallowing up the screen — you have to take what you can get with these guys.

“Person of interest will be with the best retention ever after super bowl in history of that slot. No one other tv show(sitcom or drama) on broadcast network is so much male skewed.”

So much BS in this post. The FOX animation comedies and NBC comedies are definitely more male skewing than that show. Also, theres no way CBS doesn’t put a comedy or 2 in that timeslot. I’m thinking 2 Broke Girls & Friend Me.

  • nikki

partners is funny as hell… i dont see why everyones got it out for that show. i think there might be another reason people dont like it.

  • Petar Ivanov

    @rob60990
Are you crazy. CBS will never put show that can colapse after that and waste that slot. And if CBS move PoI in wednesday at 8 as new anchor drama and spin-off after that with CM at 10 than they can save survivor for long term. Move survivor in sundays with one cycle per year and CBS sill have both old reality shows(TAR) for few more years. 1 HOUR HIT drama with possible spin-off is BETTER yjan 30 min. hit sitcom.

Michael Urie is the funniest person I have seen in a long time. he makes the show PArtners

    @ ILoveSitcoms

“It’s pretty easy to predict which series will get canned especially if you’re capable of factoring in the night, the competition, the status of the series and the network, factors this site repeatedly seems to miss.”

No, the whole premise of this site is that those things have no predictive capability whatsoever. Learn something about this site as well as scientific theory and hypothesis.

    @ Susie K.

“Just because someone turns 50, doesn’t mean that they stop spending money or buying products that advertisers offer.”

Absolutely no one said they did. What they did say is influencing their buying decisions with advertising is much more difficult and costly. Take it for the compliment that it implies.

Some network needs to bring back the comedy to Friday…

  • gerry

    @ nikki

i loved partners. back when it was called will and grace.

  • rob60990

POI rates high enough to get a spinoff? LMAOOOOOOOOO.

  • yoda

As of Thursday 10/4, with no new comedy series yet to air this week, PARTNERS is the highest rated new comedy series in the key 18-49 demo. All the while, up against THE VOICE, DANCING WITH THE STARS, BONES, AND MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. CERTAIN to be cancelled?? Not quite.

  • not a sock puppet

PARTNERS IS DEAD! We are just waiting for the announcement. And all the sock puppets in the world here won’t change that. The people have spoken! Your show is crap. Move on now and quit your fruitless spamming.
