Our Renew / Cancel Index predicts the network's decision on renewal or cancellation for scripted broadcast primetime shows by the end of the 2012-13 season in May, 2013. (includes results from September 17-30, 2012):

Program Status Renew/ Cancel Index
Fringe (F) final season 0.46
The Mob Doctor  0.58
Ben And Kate :) :) :) :) 0.87

The Simpsons already renewed 1.58

Fox's The Mob Doctor is still certain to be canceled, however three episodes have now aired, and that's more than 52% of our polled readers expected. But it's only a matter of when it gets yanked from the schedule, not if.

No other Fox show is in danger of cancellation at this point, so I bet our long time readers can guess what will be in the headline next week!

Better to Follow The Bear, Than Be Chased By Him. This season you can follow the Cancellation Bear on Twitter via @TheCancelBear. The Cancellation Bear will retweet all the Renew/Cancel Index post titles and links as well as engage in a little more back and forth banter than we do on our standard @TVbytheNumbers Twitter feed.

*shows no longer on the air have their Renew/Cancel Index "frozen" at the point they left the schedule.

  • - certain to be cancelled by May, 2013
  • - more likely to be cancelled than renewed by May, 2013
  • :| :| :| - toss up between renewal or cancellation by May, 2013
  • :) :) :) :) - more likely to be renewed than cancelled by May, 2013
  •     - certain to be renewed by May, 2013

The Renew/Cancel Index is the ratio of a scripted show's new episode adults 18-49 ratings relative to the new episode ratings of the other scripted shows on its own network. It's calculated by dividing a show's new episode Live+Same Day adults 18-49 average rating by the Live+Same Day new episode average of all the new scripted show episodes on the show's own network. The network's average ratings in the calculation are not time weighted (ex. hour long shows are not weighted twice what 30 minute shows are).

(F) -Fridays: Shows airing on Fridays were renewed with significantly lower than average Indexes.

One of the reasons Fox has allowed/helped Fringe to remain on life support is because the president of Fox, Kevin Reilly, is also a fan of the show.

Fringe would have been one of CW’s top rated shows, instead of propping up Fox’s ratings list. it should have gone there, though oon the numbers alone it should have been canned after season 3.Fox probably won’t lose any money, if Fringe averages a 1.0 rating for the final 13. I doubt this will happen, despite the hype being used to try to sustain the rating.

Mob Doctor has probably got the first 10 aired or in the post production phase and orking on the last 3 -so RTeilly ‘s call wasn’t that big a deal. It has time to finish its run, before Touch airs in 2013 -that’s if it returns.

The lowest rating Terra Nova got was 2.0. The direction the showwas planned to take, as revealed by one of the stars, didn’tt impress me. They’d need to have a re-think and add Kiefer Sutherland, if Terra Nova is to make a shock return.

I believe they will show all 13 episodes of The Mob Doctor and then send it off to very early retirement. Don’t they have to pay the actors and everyone else involved with the show anyway for the contracts?

  • Riff Rafferty

Kevin Reilly just called MOB DOC show runner Josh Berman and said that despite the ratings and any rumors out there, he was “giving his word” that FOX was going to shoot and air all 13 of MOB DOCTOR.

Oh? Kevin Reilly gave his word, you say? His word?

Well then, that settles it. The show will be shut down and yanked this week.

Like the show give it a chance 3 weeks is not time to make a decision.

Why does fix keep shows like Bobs Burgers which is not a good show and then cancel good shows like mob doctor? I don’t watch fox very much just because they do not keep the good shows. Mob doctor and the mindy project are the only two shows on fox that I watch. My guess is they will cancel mindy project too when they get the chance.

I’m sad they cancelled Mob Doctor, I never watch Fox. This was the first time in over 16 years. They had me the first episode, and now I’m gone. Nothing Fox puts out is attracted to me, so I was very excited for this show!
    Sad Face!!!!!
