    @Holly
    CBS took a risk moving Men, but it was for good reason. They wanted to create a new line-up while they had 3 well-rated shows instead of waiting a couple of years when Men collapsed and Mother ended.

    Along those lines, a scenario in which both freshman sitcoms fail and they’re unable to convince HIMYM’s cast to stay and unable to afford Men’s cast is fairly reasonable.

    Does CBS give up on their Thursday comedy block (which has never really worked – The Big Bang Theory would have pulled massive ratings wherever) and move TBBT back to Monday nights to anchor the lineup?

    It certainly wouldn’t be out of character for them to give up on their non-Monday comedy block.

    CBS was more ocncerned about saving 2.5 men , than having a good lead in for its monday lineup.

  • Chazz

    They did it to go younger at 9 pm. Think Will & Grace in for Frasier on Thursday.

    And as for your doomsdaying and that of others claiming that The Voice will drop in the coming weeks after the Blind Auditions, who cares?
    At least The Voice has…

    BEATEN THEM SINGLE-HANDEDLY IN SEVERAL OCCASIONS CONVINCINGLY

    regardless of whether it will drop next week or not! The point is…

    it DID BEAT them! not once but MANY TIMES!

    And that will remain a FACT no matter how you badmouth the show! You can’t deny! It’s a HIT!!! The Voice has beaten all of its competition ALL BY ITSELF– The X Factor, CBS comedies and other shows! Guess it’s hard to accept that for a HATER! Sorry to say but you’ll have to live with it!
    Bye! Bye! I’m done with you! :)

    @bluejays,

    I don’t see it as Ultima “hating” on The Voice, as just pointing out the fact that there was a football game on ESPN last night which drew higher ratings than the networks. Sometimes, I don’t appreciate Ultima’s snarkiness (sorry, Ultima! :-)) but he really was stating an objective opinion from what I can tell. Hey, for all we know, he could despise the show, or be its biggest fan….but I couldn’t tell that by just that one comment.

    One question to the experts and historians among us, but why did ABC drop Monday Night Football and don’t have the Superbowl anymore? I never got why they did it. Especially being the only network to not be in rotation for carrying the Superbowl….I’ll bet they wish they had MNF now….geesh!

  • Ultima

    @bluejay
    The show deserves CREDIT for beating ALL of its competition.

    I love the emphasis of “all.”

    I used to admire you because you sounded “smart” in your previous comments but … [that] is pure rage and jealousy for the show. Stop hating!

    So you admired me taking it to people when the show in question wasn’t important to you, but now that it’s The Voice being talked about, I’m a hater motivated by pure rage and jealousy?

    Neat.

    Surprised it has taken this long for you to break into a rant though. I’ve used the “The Voice is down 28% from last season” stat at least a dozen times so far! ;)

    I still think revolution is going to bleed out slowly over the next few weeks if it`s viewers in milions keep dropping which they will as that is there trend atm they will soon be at 6-7m and there demo is gonna suffer allot cause of that.

    Castle and h50 will get a chance to recover lets just hope when they do they dont dissapoints.

  • Ultima

    @Brian J
    there’s nothing remotely controversial about using a strong lead-in to help a show

    Right, but there’s a huge difference between slotting something behind a highly rated show and cutting back the highly rated show’s time in order to slot something behind it.

    Also, I was referring to your suggestion of moving The New Normal to Monday, when it already has the third best timeslot on the network.

  • Diana

    Glad to see NBC Number One on Mondays. It took them lot of flops and a lot of jokes from other networks, but who is laughing now? probably cbs isn’t. The Voice is amazing and Revolution the best show in several years.
    CBS numbers are horrible, they used to get better numbers than those with repeats. Hawaii 50 is the worst,those numbers, OMG, LOL.

  • bluejay72

    @ Ultima

    I can’t help commenting… Sorry! :)

    Yes, I did not react regarding that “28% down from last season” because somehow I know there’s some truth in it that’s why I HUMBLY ACKNOWLEDGED!
    At least I still face REALITY with HUMILITY!

    But you DOWNPLAYING The Voice (despite being the #1 show in both ratings and viewers) by trying to bring up Monday Night Football is PURE HATE! Seriously? NO CREDIT at all? Hahaha! Your favorite shows must have been HURT by The Voice to make you feel that way… Sorry for you! :)

    The Voice rules! Take it or leave it! :)

    @ARKeith
    One question to the experts and historians among us, but why did ABC drop Monday Night Football and don’t have the Superbowl anymore?

    Disney was losing money with the ABC Monday Night Football / ESPN Sunday Night Football setup. MNF did roughly the same as it does now, but that was much worse relative to the rest of broadcast primetime. SNF meanwhile did worse than MNF at the time (and much worse than it does now).

    So Disney sent MNF off to cable and even with the improvements to Sunday Night Football, ABC didn’t go for it because at the time they had the #1 Sunday lineup with Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy.

    As for the Super Bowl, the NFL requires networks to carry games on broadcast during the regular season to particpate in the Super Bowl rotation.

    @bluejay
    Your favorite shows must have been HURT by The Voice to make you feel that way… Sorry for you!

    I was watching football last night, so if you want to call that “my show,” it did just fine! ;)

  • THE OLD MAN

    Nice to see the CBS shows up (though slightly)–get ROE @ 8:30 ASAP

    Hopefully H50 will recover from whatever is happening here

  • Tyson

    Ultima, I think CBS will do everything it can to protect its Monday night dominance. It expanded to Wednesday when it thought it could establish a second night. The Thursday expansion is similar.

    I think CBS would retrench if necessary. Move TBBT to Monday and go with four sitcoms for a season if required. I don’t think CBS will allow the rot to occur that we see with NBC’s Thursday comedy block.

  • John A

    Why compare Castle and BOP? BOP was getting 1.2-1.5 last season. Castle aint doing bad in comparison.

  • Baaa!

    At this rate H5O and Castle will compete again on Fridays next season.

  • Holly

    @Ultima,

    Maybe, though they did drag out the Wednesday attempt longer than I expected. But they won’t be doing it right now. The Monday block would have to take a much harder hit for them to rearrange things during this season.

  • Chris

    @JohnA–BOP never had the big lead-in and crappy competition Castle did. If it had been in Castle’s timeslot, it probably would have performed more strongly–and conversely, if Castle had BOP’s timeslot, it would be canceled by now. :)

  • Cory

    The crappier ratings Castle and H5O get, more fans argue, when the fact is both shows couldn’t stand alone, and don’t deserve the ratings that get.
